With a retail box being sold by Atari, it's reasonable to assume that new accounts will be more expensive than they are now. Right now you can start an account for $20 with a Starter kit game time card, the retail box will cost $40-50 I imagine. Do you believe Atari agreed to let CCP sell accounts for online for less than the retail box costs? Am I off on how much the retail box will cost?

I believe the retail box includes 60 days of game time, whereas a normal account that you open via the website includes only 30 days.

You're not figuring some things into your "calculations".
First off, anyone who just downloads the client and starts a trial has a "starter cost" of time alone - nothing, in terms of dollars.
The starter kits come with a 30-day timecard - in essence, you've paid for the first month($15), plus a little extra to have some printed material.
Those who buy the boxed set get a 60-day timecard - established worth of $35.00 US (the going rate for a 60-day timecard), PLUS a printed manual set, a CD, and a box - which should be easily worth $15-$25, depending on comprehensivity and/or other doodads they put in the box.
Again, it depends on the manual set they put in the box - if it's just a gloss card, then no it's not worth it. If it's NOT - and it shouldn't be, given how complex a game EvE is - then the manual might even be worth it to seasoned players, as a reference guide if nothing else. Even if they just included a set of 2d maps that would be HUGE value, given the size of the EvE Universe.
THink about it.

Quote: * 60 Day Game Time û Useable by both new and current players. * Instant War Access û Retail box buyers will receive an in-game certificate that will give them instant access to Factional Warfare, while other users have to spend considerable time earning the right to fight for the factions. * Career Guide û For the first in the history of EVE, CCP will offer players goals in the form of what career they want to pursue and the inside advice on how to get there. This might become the biggest thing in this box if this works well. * VIP Pass û Players are told how they can invite their friends and give them VIP Access to EVE Online in the form an extended trial and if the friend becomes a subscriber the player will get a 30 day free game time added to their account. * Special Edition Ship û Players will get an exclusive ship in-game. It is special type of a shuttle that is ideal to move things around due to much increased cargo space. This is the first time CCP has created an exclusive ship, so we believe our current player base will be very interested in this.

well for me the gamebox costs less than a 60 day gtc, so i'm just gonna buy a new game every 2 months, that should up the number of retail boxes they sell, i imagine quite a few more brits will do the same tbh!

Edited by: Agrigan on 11/02/2009 16:16:13 I agree that the extras in the box should make up the difference. And I never said I was doing any calculations, all I was asking is if CCP has confirmed that account prices will not increase with the introduction of the retail box.
This is not an absurd notion, and has been done with other games, including price increases mid-game. If anyone has any REAL information, please share. But for all you speculators who are so sure that Atari will just assume that people will pick the boxed set because of the extras... you have a lot to learn about business.
If in fact there is no increase in cost for downloaded accounts, it will only be because CCP negotiated that. You think Atari would be happy to invest millions distributing a game, and just accept that a more affordable and more accessible version was available, cutting into their profits considerably? Doubtful at best. Would CCP negotiate to keep the time cards accessible to increase subscription rates? Very likely as well. Just is either confirmed yet?

I accidentilly the who box set?
Why is there even speculation abuot a price rise for the subscription? Atari are the publishers, not the people running EVE. Just because there is going to be a nice shiney box with a 60 day GTC in it doesnt mean that CCP is going to up the subscription.
of course if they do im WTFEMORAGEQUITTING all of my seventyfourbazillion accounts

There is no REAL information that prices will be raised. Nor was there any mention of it until you started this thread. Should CCP start posting the 4 trillion things they're not going to do?

So basically you are asking CCP personnel to take time out to confirm or deny a whacked out theory you came up with without actually taking the time to think it through? A theory which has no basis in reality except for your bizarre internal ramblings you've decided to label as "reasonable"?
Give me a break.
Hey, since a solution to POS warfare would be to just remove all POSs, it's reasonable to assume CCP is going to remove all POSs. Can CCP please confirm or deny this? LOL. ----------------------------------------------------

This was from back in 2003, so most of the info, like the basic walktroughs on mining and combat and trade and whatnot are just laughably irrelevant. The section on cloning is my fav...
"When purchasing a clone, consider two aspects - advance level and loss severety."
"A clone comes with an advance level range of 1 to 10. The higher the number, the higher the advanced skills your clone may keep. If your clone has an advanced level of 4, you'll keep all skills with a level of 4 or lower."
"Loss severity is figured as a percantage range from 1 to 50. It represents the chance your character will lose skills higher than you clone's advance level. Using the foregoing example, if your clone has an advance level of 4 with a loss severity of 40 , then all skills level 5 and above have a chance of loosing 40 percent of theyr respective training points"
....ah the good ol' days. Also in the ships section, it lists a whopping 6-7 ships per race.
