Ok, I know I may be pushing it a bit but I would quite like to hear some - at least 'semi' - intelligent opinons regarding my Megathron (level 4s).
At the moment I have:
1 x T2 armour repper 4 x T2 hardeners (mission specific) 1 x T2 mag stab 1 x T2 cap power relay
1 x pwnage 3 x T2 cap recharger
7 x 425mm proto gauss railguns 1 x drone link augmentor (purely as it is low requirements and because I can)
3 x T1 ccc
I use anti-matter ammo and I get optimal range off 34km, falloff 27km.
The main things I want to ask about are about the target painter. Was considering getting 2 mag stabs but would require to remove painter for another cap recharger for total cap stability. Also whether to get a module to increase my optimal range, tracking enhancer/computer(with script). For either of these I would again either have to remove the painter for cap if I use the enhancer or for the computer itself.
First of all, before anyone shouts at me about not needing total perma run cap stability, please don't. I know it can be done with managing groups well etc and yes I can do that. However I like being able to not have to run if I mess up accidentally or jumping into a friends level 4 mish to help and all aggro going I can stay and help (this has happened a few times).
Again, I would like some good intelligent input on this. I am sure I will choose something at some point and simply will ignore irritating complaints etc. No offence meant :)
Hope to look forward to what people have to say.

Was hoping for a bit more to a reply but oh well, no offence :)
Anyway, this is purely a post while I've woken up to get my thread back on page one.

I think target painters are great, since it'll help you score much more hits on smaller targets. Don't forget to take a bunch of Hobgoblin IIs and Hammer IIs to deal with the frigs. The target painter will help your drones out a lot also. 4 hardeners might be overkill, but I suppose it's ok. If you're good at keeping your distance then you shouldn't be hit so bad. T2 guns would be great but ofc takes a while to get. I've actually switched to 350mm rails ages ago and had better experience with it in missions. Ofc, I haven't missioned in ages and my Mega's buried in dust. The alpha's lower but the dps isn't so reduced, rof is better, and tracking's a bit better.
My mission Mega had a T2 AB, cap injector w/800, TP and 1 utility mid for a TC, web or SB and such. 350mm in highs, with a smartbomb. I think CPU's limited so can't have everything at once but try em out.

I would definitely swap a hardener for a magstab. Train up gunnery, BS and cap skills to level 5s You will find light T2 drones useful for spiders/frigs etc. that come too close.
If you want a more comprehensive response, my rates are very reasonable...

If you're running missions solo in a turret ship, then the painter actually isn't that great. The increase in sig radius is equivalent to an increase in tracking, so painters and scripted tracking computers are about equal in this regard, except for three notable differences:
1) A painter helps everyone shooting at a target, while the TC helps just you. 2) The TC stays active for every shot you fire, whereas the painter must be activated against each target individually. 3) The TC can be scripted for extra range when you don't need the tracking.
Difference 1 is why painters are great in gangs (even ignoring the effects on missiles), but it doesn't really apply in missions. Differences 2 and 3 mean that you'll probably get more mileage out of a tracking computer (the ability to increase range is great, and since you'll often only need the extra tracking on things that die pretty quick it can be annoying to keep having to wait for the cycle to finish and reactivate a painter on the next target).
Alternatively, if you don't want to have to micromanage at all, drop the painter for another cap recharger and add a magstab for more raw damage. It's not obvious whether it would help more than 20% extra tracking, but my feeling is that it probably would.
