"Though I am trying to figure out how adding more labs would 'undermine' the player economy. If by 'undermine', you mean 'would make lazy researchers and manufacturers adapt to competition', then sure, I guess it would undermine the player economy."
I'm agreeing... More competition = healthier economy ... Economics 101. If allowing more builders to enter the marketplace by making lab slots more available creates more competition it would help the economy, not hurt it. Who it would hurt would be the people making a living camping on lab slots and selling them, and the lab slot scammer. As I said in my earlier post, lab slots were not meant to be a commodity. If they were, there would be a safe system in place for selling/trading them such as escrow... ---------------

Sorry but this healthier economy crap might sell at seminars but healthy for whom, the worker whos pay gets slashed 'cause someone can produce the same thing for a fraction cheaper not having to worry about half the laws applying to the former...
More people researching all the same prints will just drive the price of a blueprint copy further into the ground and you might think now that it's good for everyone to be able to build everything cheap but you'll come to realize that it's just no fun being able to get it all once you've had it without any troubles whatsoever.

Again with the lab slot whining. Try getting some patience and staying in one system for awhile. I got my six in two weeks of playing in one system. Wanna buy them? How about 50 million each. Don't like the price? Get yours like I got mine. PATIENCE.

Dont let people in newbie corps rent them. Whenever a lab slot is rented have it show the corp that is renting the slot regardless of if its a personal slot or not.
Now you can find some corp with lab slots you want and war them for taking your damn slots! I dunno would it work? Seems like a practical use for corp war in a corp war universe.
Obviously people could hide slots behind front corporations but thats a hastle atleast.

Quote: Just have to live with current pricing and availability of facilities, there is no option B at the moment.
Yes there is.
Make it so, that copying a BPC has mineral requirements of 10 R&D database cubes. Then limit the number of datacubes on the market (or make them rarely attainable only thru missions).
When datacubes run out, then you end up without any research/copying in that lab slot, and in a week you get kicked out because you don't have used your lab slot.

I bought a labslot today. there was one opening in a 0.0 system 2 jumps from empire space, so it can't be THAT hard to get one. If you want a lab slot enough, go look for it. don't bother in empire, they're all taken and chances of finding one open are slim to none

It looks like one half of a good solution is being added with today's patch.
The other half of the solution is to make mindless copying of bp's COST SOMETHING, at least the effort to re-load the BP every re-rental. Players WILL NOT HOARD something, even free, if it takes actual play time to maintain the property.
As it will be shown after the patch, a price increase is very minor compared to forcing a 2 minute visit to reload a BP, or alternatively, making the free copies COST SOMETHING. *steps off rant box*

Depending upon the rate of price increase for rentals, today's change to price dynamics for rentals should solve most issues. --- The Tarsis Shriners |

I dont think so
I think that if you made it so that you could only research a BPO for a number of runs at the time (like 10) without touching the lab slot it would completely solve the problem
however one never knows maybe the Lab slot price increase after this last patch will be enough i doubt it but i guess we have to wait and see
Thank You Paw Sandberg
