So reading the Honour? thread here in C&P, I come across a post made by an incredulous pilot who couldn't believe the audacity of some Yarrs blowing up their defenseless spaceship...this led me to wonder...
Why are you defenseless?
Is that the pirate's fault that you have no means of defending yourself against the maelstrom of hungry pilots out there just salivating at the sight of your ship? Or is it yours? Why did you have no escort? If what you are hauling is so very expensive, surely you have enough dough lying about to hire a few mean looking fellows to give you some measure of protection. Of course, sometimes that just isn't enough...after all, mean looking only goes so far (is totally useless against the blind, really). So why are you raging against those who are merely doing what they do best? Shouldn't you be upset with the one person who left you totally without any means to defend yourself?
(Um, that's you, by the way.)
So Haulers and AFK APers...sound off. I'm really curious about the whole belief that seems to be prevalent amongst you.

Obviously... cause pirates and scoundrels AFK pilot and use haulers...
I wish mitnal or navigator would give me Forum Powers just for a day or two... that would be rad.

Well, would be stupid to leave a hauler alone. You never know what could drop. As a pirate you take your chances whenever you can. If a hauler pops on your screen, and you are able to take it then you just do it. This has notting to do with honour or anything related to it.

Shortest answer to the question as asked - Damifino.
Sometimes things happen. Oh look, 20 high-sec jumps to go and I'm late for dinner... AFK looks like a reasonable option.
I got a ton of stuff to get from here to there. So I can make hundreds of round trips in a BC/BS with a good tank, or I can fly a hauler what can't fight it's way out of a wet paper bag but only needs one or two trips. Decisions decisions....
Best I can say about why AFK AP and/or fly a hauler.
Why a pirate would attack such is not a question I worry about. It's profit on the hoof for them. The only part I don't get is why some of them spend so much time bragging about it. "I took down a ship that can't shoot back, don't that polish my e-peen?" Uhm, not really, no. It may prove that you are a *profitable* pirate, but it does not say beans about your combat abilities.
Oh, and for the record - I spend as little time on AP as possible so maybe I'm not the right person to answer this.

To answer that in the simplest of terms...yes.
Obviously this particular branch of the forum board is not exclusive to the scofflaw, otherwise we would never see the incessant rant of honorless pirates, the warnings of scams, et al. The law-abiding also frequent this strand of the spider's web. Thus, I titled it as such to attract those who feel they have been wronged...well, wrongly. People have weird tendency to be attracted to the experiences that they can relate to. Thus, concernimg both the subject matter, and the loose relation to the aforementioned thread in the OP, I felt this was the most relevant place to ask the question.
You ask why...I answer why not. |

What is this e-honour and why would any reasonable "pvper" or whatever leave a juicy hauler or barge unmolested?

As a player more likely to be a victim of this than do it to another player I see nothing wrong with a player ganking another player for profit. I take issue with people ganking T1 mining frigs(Obvious new players) and shuttles in most cases. There is no gain or challenge in either of those activities and I would associate that more with griefing than playing imaginary pirate.
I don't think this happens a lot but there are some twelve year olds out there who think thatĘs fun and happen to call themselves pirates. Yeah, I'm including station/gate can baiting as a griefer activity since nobody would bite on that except a new player. (Unless you're looking for a good fight)
So anyway... Honour and pirating do go together and most of the really good pirates are honorable. Its mostly the kids and socially challenged wanna be bullies who give pirates a bad name. I don't think itĘs a 100% black and white issue but I do agree a lot of carebears cry too much. Even I think their tears are yummy or I wouldn't be reading here.
