if you all want to just do pvp... kestrals are your best bet. 4 of them, armed with rocket launchers, is nasty damage to anything. 16*25(about this, though obviously dependant on skills and resistances...)=400damage per volley, and each volley takes about 3 seconds (again, skill dependant.)that means, that in around 30 seconds, you can kill most cruisers. if a battleship doesnt have drones, youve got a fair chance of killing that too.
i realise that this isnt too useful to you as you want to use rifters, but someone else on a 14 day account might read this, and decide to give it a go :)

med slots: 1 warp scrambler 7,5km 1mwd
low slots: 2cap power relay ------------------------------------------- high slots: 2 samll nosferatu 2 standard misiles launcher

i would not get a rifter on that type of account - would go for a kestral anf fit 4 rocket launchers and some webers or warp scramblers. 4 of you 2 with webs and 2 with scrambles ect.

It is a way better idea to resurrect and old thread than starting a new one! 
But for your Rifter, just keep in mind that you're piloting a Matari ship that can only match a Kestrel in PvP by brute force. If you now you're gonna match with a Kessy, just put a lot of short range guns and close as fast as possible...

After spending weeks optimisimg my maller i decided to get a rifter again for pvp and npc fun, i just want to know is it worth trashing my anode pulse particle stream 1's for howitzers when my pulse laser skills are far superior. here is what i have at the mo ( set up for npc at moment will put a webber on for pvp)
Highs- 2x anode pulse particle stream 1's, 2x standars missle launcher
Mids- 1x cap recharger, 1x 1mn micro warp drive
lows- 1x small armour repairer teck 2, 1x cap pwr relay

Nice thread guys.
I have been using a Rifter with 3 250Arties. Looking into a Standard Missile Launcher and I had a few questions.
1. When looking at the difference in price between a named launcher (in this case an arbalest light tech I) and the above standeard launcher the price difference was astronomical considering the closeness in attributes. I may well be missing something (in fact im sure my n00biness is coming to the fore but...) with the Standard Launcher at 10,000ISK and the Arbalast at 2.8millionISK it seems a little strange.
2. Secondly I read that defenders are anti-missile rockets, now given that i haven't knowingly come up against an opponent who has used missiles im not sure how you would know one has been fired at you. (I usually zoom out quite away from battles) Is there an indicator or do you just have to look hard?

1. Arbalest's have a faster ROF(rate of fire), They are easier to fit b/c they have lower requirments; and They are harder to find.
2. If your zoomed out pretty fdar you'll just have to pay really close attention. If your zoomed closer you'll see a little glowing light heading towards your ship (that's the missles); so just fire your defenders when you see that.

Hmmm, the ROF makes sense but I didn't think the other differences were so large, will check when back at PC.
Guess I'll have to pay attention for small lights. :)
/me wonders if this is hindered by a background, i.e. a bright nebulae in the backgroud.

Rarity is a large factor in the price difference. Its not a linear relationship that determines pricing.. Not only does rarity really matter, the more that the attributes are refined and squeezed out, the more it costs, just to give you that extra edge. It truly matters enough to pay for. For a newer player, just stick to the lower priced named stuff cos it wont make that much difference until you are truly squeezing every last ounce of performance out of your ship already.
Concerning missiles + defenders, listen carefully if you have sound on, you can hear them launch. Also, defenders only launch if there is a missile incoming, so if in doubt, try anyway. If it launches, then phew, it'll intercept. If it doesnt launch, then no worries.
And yes, background effects can obscure missile flares, so its often wise when fighting missile boats to spin the camera round to a good angle away from the light source. Also try "look at" their ship, can see them plain as day then..

hi can i kill cruisers with a rifter or maybe a distroyer? (no skill for assaul frigs).... and can i hold myown in 2/10 complexes (i'm not a veri trained pilot... and still a noob a fighting [my name was sir minalot till a couple of weeks when i started this fighter]) or even 3/10???
