I normally fly a falcon and when I'm not in that, a HAM drake. However I have recently taken to roaming around in a kestrel just to kill time when my corp isn't running any ops (I'm in a different time zone than most of the players)
Anyway, what targets (aside from the obvious miners and haulers) should I primarily be looking to engage? I would think that anything in the cruiser class should be fair game, or are there certain ships I should be staying away from? Also, how do T-1 frigs generally fair against lone BC's and BSes (assuming no webs)?
Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.
(Oh, and if it matters, the kestrel setup is 4x rocket launchers in the highs, MWD, point, and cap booster in the mids, and nano's in the lows) |

Edited by: Selia Rain on 13/02/2009 04:34:50 Falcon is a really poor solo roamer. HACs are great, but cerb isn't really strong for that. Eagle with blasters would work well, but that's a significant isk loss. Kestrel is a fine solo roaming ship as long as you don't expect to catch/kill anything big. Cruiser is probably the largest class you can reliably engage, and any well fit cruiser will lolraep you at that. Fortunately, your hull is cheap enough that you couldn't care. Drake can work well, and certain caracal and moa fits work well for roaming about too(and don't cost an arm and a leg to lose either). You may also consider using AFs or interceptors if you have the skill to fly them.

fly rocket kestrel with web and scram, armor plates in the lows.
sit outside a lowsec or 0.0 npc station
wait for an interceptor to aggress you within scram range.
loot.

Edited by: yani dumyat on 13/02/2009 18:53:08 Try this setup:
HIGHS: 4x Rocket Launcher II (Fury ammo)
MIDS: MWD I Scrambler I Named medium shield extender
LOWS: Ballistic controll II MPAC (Micro aux power core I)
Your target is anything that moves, if you loose then who cares. You need only the loot from one kill to pay for several of these.
Drop some cans in a trade hub if you're in empire or maybe flip some cans to get a fight. Otherwise belt roam etc.
Kessie is one of the highest DPS frigs in the game and lots of people will underestimate it especially ceptor pilots. If you use an AB instead of MWD then a kessie with AB will be faster than a ceptor with its MWD switched off by your scram so you can keep it in range, though you will have to put up with all the usual AB issues. |

Setup is fail, what good are rockets for if your setup is geared towards keeping range to the enemy?
To be constructive, try missiles and range, that might work.
Or rather train skills for a frig that works decently solo, like the rifter or punisher.
