If you want to get started with pirating asap, i would suggest training all electronic warfare skills, all missile skills upto heavy missiles, and caldari cruiser.
Take a bb with some jammers, a warp scrambler, a mix of other items which i'll leave for you to figure out, and fill the highs with heavy missile launchers. It works decently, you can pirate most weak ships fairly easily.

That's all you need. Use a Vigil with 200mm autocannons, two warp scramblers, MWD, and 3 cap relays for scrambling industrials. You can kill a Iteron V with 200m autocannons and Foxfire rockets in a couple of minutes.

I'm not the best pirate, but I have 1 mil skill points, and I'm doing fine. I have over 10 pod kills, and over 15 ship kills. All I can say to you, is that after you get blown up a couple times, you'll figure out what exactly you'll need. I prefer going all out attacking in a frig. I can take off a Black birds shield and armor before it could get me with some missiles. so my opinion to you, is stick to 0.0 space, or else you'll hate playing the game. if your in .1-.4, you get negative raings for attackign people, and if it's not in a belt, then concord will coem in and attack you. stick to caldari though, a merlin, and a kestral are hard to take on, unless your in an elite frigate.

First of all: Your Avatar is ugly enough for beeing a good pirate.
But there is one other very important requirement left: You need the local smacking and forum trolling skills on at least lvl 4. Training these skills is top priority!

dont jump straight into a cruiser or bs until you have lost lots of frigs and know what its like to be blown out of the sky.
frigs are really good and with my setup i can take out frigs, cruisers and haulers. interceptors are tougher so be careful with them.
the other point is to specialise. it means you will have a particular attacking role; dont try to be a jack-of-all-trades since then you arent good at any one thing but mediocre in a few. and remember insurance on the bigger ships. with a cruiser it can always help to have insurance
drop me a line in game sometime and ill try and think of sdome more pointers -

just related to this
anyone know of a way to improve mah knowledge a little with fighting, or am i only gonna get that down in 0.0 since afaik you cant web npc's
atm still practicing gettin used to orbiting and with the loadout i got hunting from 15 to 20km range tis great i can smack dem so and so's round and they cant get a shot off at me :-P.
This is the loadout for npc rat hunting i came up with
high 2 x 280 arty howitzer 1 with basic carbon leaded shot(proton if i can find any for when they get in close) 2 x standard missile launchers with hawkeyes i think they are called. Med 1x civi shield booster(cant find shield systems to train up small shield 1 even thou i got 5 off the npc's tonight) 1x1mn AB Low 1 x PDU 1 1 x Gyro Stabilisers (i think that is right damage mod for progectiles)
Now i know this is going to change when i go pvp just looking for some tips, trying to get some sort of standing increase so i can use a damn agent in my corps solar system that aint giving 95% courier missions.
any and all critisism is welcome any by all means my future buds, keep the trolling commin on " Phantom is a Pirate in training "

It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.

your deffinitly best off in non empire space, the careberas in empire ill drive you nuts if you start out there.
Just look for large dots, then search for the clostest refine station to that, then camp the incoming gate into that system, if your proper set up have a hauler at station and collect all the ore...its as profitable as mining, but more exciting.
Also dont smack talk alliances, if you get along with them, you will learn loads about how to last it in the outter rim.
When you have a bit of experience from evading them and begin to know how they work, start attacking their frig support, ya can have loads of fun doin that..but be prepared to loose plenty of frigs.
Caldari is usually the best to start out as a noob as those ships dont take much skill to use with plenty of med slots and cpu. But if you dont mind staying in a rifter or rupture for a while, minmatar are pretty good solo pvp ships.
If you do go the caldari route, remember that even though a scorp can jam ships and lock them down, they dont have the firepower to take out any other bs.... but if your hunting with others its good support ship.
You should really decide on what pirating route you want to take now so that you dont waste skill training time on something you wont use, or doesnt suit your style of play

Phantom, IÆll give you an explanation.
I read your previous posts, and noted that you were exceeding adept, in fact almost faultless, at the loading out of your ship, as well as the tales of your combat, with a character that is so new, that it belays belief.
So, I drew the conclusion, that you are either a veteran player starting a new account, and playing a little game on the forums, hence ôtrollö.
Or, you are a natural player, such as Mozart was to music, Picasso to painting, Shakespeare to literature.
I have no way of knowing which is true, only you will know.

Edited by: Phantom Battlestar on 10/08/2004 22:16:26 sorry to dissapoint guys but i am an eve newbie.
I just did alot of homework before i decided on my next online game. spent about a week in forums here and on eve-i.com just reading up on the game and the different stuff that went on.
I actually have been playing one game for the last 5 years, and that is Everquest. Like alot of others Sony annoyed the bageebers out of me with the Gates of Discord/Omens of War debacle. I didnt really want to get caught out again so i started shopping round.
I pick up lingo pretty quickly as well which is why i come across as something i actually am not.
As for the flying skills, all i can say is they must be left over from my days of playing X-Wing and other Lucasart space sims, alothough it isnt hard to keep a target at 21k while u fire bloodclaws at it ****edit**** should say that i was orbiting while shooting the missiles on the 17.5 to 50k rats i come across, that way there rockets always missed, unless i forgot to orbit then i remembered real fast while hammering the shield booster to get me back mah shields *****edit*****
And that is the history behind the man behind Phantom Battlestar, no veteran alt, no evil plot
Just a genuine newbie who took some time to read up about the game before i started to play so i guess i fit into the mozart definition heh " Phantom is a Pirate in training "

Phantom, your talents are too strong to follow the dark path. Piracy would present little challenge, as the cold truth about it, is piracy is a game of flat footing folks, then shooting them in a positions of weakness. Most of the time around gates but sometimes in belts, lots of long hours waiting about gates, and giggling at flatulence humor on Teamspeak, so I hear.
YouÆll make enemies but they are usually folks that canÆt challenge you, so they only can hurl threats and insults in local, and in Evemail. This is why so many comments were in the thread referring to the smack talking skill.
If you pirate in empire space, you will eventually have such a negative security rating that you will be unable to enter .5 systems and higher. This will really cramp your abilities to move around. Think 100 jump trips.
Once you gain a negative security rating of any kind, folks are not going to be friendly with you, you will immediately be suspect, and many folks will flee at the sight of you entering a system. Fun at first, but it gets stale.
Your only friends will be those others that have taken up the profession of criminal, and while there are some of EveÆs best players, they are many more of EveÆs worst in this realm.
I think you should consider the far greater challenge, of hunting the hunters. Catching someone who is good at evading as well as being armed to engage players is a far harder thing to succeed in.
There are corporations that do this, you should look into them.

Unfortunately the Melbourne City Council would take a dim look at its security guard/concierge officer playing an online game during work time heh
otherwise the laptop would be here and i would be online right now.
Just hope that login bug i was copping after the hotfix is gone when i get home, lost a full 10 hours of training
I can chat in rooms and post on forums, and that is about all i can do atm while at work
i wanna kill already " Phantom is a Pirate in training "
