Hello all,
As a noob explorer, i am hoping you can answer this question. I fly amarr and am wondering what type of combat ship i should use to clear out exploration sites before going in with my salvaging/hacking ship.
I will be in low sec/0.0.
Now since i know i will make mistakes and get my ships blown up, i am trying to go as cheap as possible. I can go with a fully t2 harbinger and i would be pretty confident that it will take care of my needs in 0.0, however price is a concern.
So, the question is, would a cruiser such as a Maller be effective, especially in 0.0? I can get about 200 dps and about 21K EHP from this ship.
Any and all opinions are welcome.

In 0.0 sec you'll want a battleship or command ship. Most combat (unknown) sites are comparable to lvl 4 missions. The hacking and archeology sites are usually a tad easier. |

I've never done a null-sec one, but have handled low-sec radar sites in my Drake. |

I do alot of low sec exploration and funnily enough i am also amarr. I find the retribution to be more than capable of killing the spawns in radar sites/mag sites and gravs. Some of the unknowns, specifically the expeditions, i have had to swap to a bigger ship, BC ,and even a geddon a few times. But the majority were no problem at all for my retri.

I suggest a battle cruiser, so ya Command ship would do if you have the skills. Battleships are too slow and will not last any gate camps if you run into them.
You'll of course have to shut off some systems to get the probe launcher to online.
If you have any Gallente skills I suggest the Myrmidon because of the massive drone bay which will offset the high slots you need for exploration modules. (Cloak, Probe Launcher, Salvager, etc) |

Could you please post your setup for the exploration myrmidon Trying to get started and since iam all gallente I would love to have a template to start out from thanks

For low sec Radar/Mag sites all you really need is an Assault frigate. I can do these two site types easily in lowsec with a jaguar. Added advantage of speed in the sites and align time if you get probed/jumped. 0.0 is another matter though |

you're kidding right? use a covert ops, or at the very least your race's astronometrics frigate to actually probe out the sites.

I'm focusing my training for an all exploration ISHTAR, with the reduction of the power need for the probe launcher, i feel that's a win. With the expansion, there will be change of bonuses, so i'm not sure a cov ops is the most viable ship anymore. Seems like it's all speed now, and with reported 5 sec's scan from Sisi. Any ship that can enter a hit faster, then switching between a purposed equiped ships will do them faster.
