Edited by: Genya Arikaido on 14/02/2009 03:06:28 As a long time droner with very high drone skills (Over 9000!!!!), I was really confused when on the introduction of certificates I hardly had any certs at all in Drones.
After spending some time going over the drone certs, I began to notice some redundant dependencies and misplaced skills.
So, here is my reworked Drone Certificates, now with Certs for Carrier pilots too:
(-Definitions-) CERTIFICATE NAME: certificate - levels - available Skill or Certificate name (levels that correspond to the cert levels) Example: Drones I - III - V (Drones I for basic, III for standard and V for improved, if available, or elite.) skip signifies that there is no change to this skill at the specified cert level. (-End Definitions-)
DRONE CONTROL: basic - standard - improved - elite Drone Control skip - basic - standard - improved Drones III - V Drone Navigation II - IV - skip - V Drone Durability I - III - IV - V Scout Drone Operation III - V - skip - skip Drone Interfacing skip - III - V
COMBAT DRONE CONTROL: basic - standard - improved - elite Drone Control basic - standard - improved - elite Combat Drone Control skip - basic - standard - improved Combat Drone Operation II - IV - V Drone Sharpshooting skip - skip - IV - V
HEAVY DRONE CONTROL: basic - standard - elite Combat Drone Control standard - improved - elite Heavy Drone Operation II - IV - V Sentry Drone Operation skip - III - V Specialized Drone Control skip - skip - elite
SPECIALIZED DRONE CONTROL: basic - standard - elite Combat Drone Control standard - improved - elite Gallente Drone Specialization II - IV - V Amarr Drone Specialization II - IV - V Minmatar Drone Specialization II - IV - V Caldari Drone Specialization II - IV - V Electronic Warfare Drone Interfacing skip - III - V Repair Drone Operation skip - III - V
FIGHTER SQUADRON COMMAND: standard - elite Combat Drone Control standard - elite Fighters III - V Advanced Drone Interfacing III - V
ELITE DRONE OPERATOR: elite Combat Drone Control Elite Heavy Drone Control Elite
Feel free to use these instead of the spaghetti mess in the game. Too many duplicate dependencies and odd requirements. Good example: Why is EW Drone Control in Drone Control - Improved?
These redesigned certs are the IP of CCP hf. Feel free to use them to replace the travesty that the Drone Certs are now, CCP.

Forgot Mining Drone Operation, but I think that was because I couldn't really figure out where to put it. I think it's better suited to be in the Harvesting category for one of the standard mining certs, yet require Drone Control - Standard.

If you don't have drones V you should be getting any cert for being a drone user; it should be basic cert req |

I agree, personally, but that's actually the same levels CCP has it at now. It's a minor issue that could be debated, but it's fine as a standard drone control requirement. Don't want to scare the newbies with a level V at the basic level. Help me move to Iceland!

Amarr and Caldari drones are almost completely worthless and it's pretty sad that most peoples drones certs will not reflect their actual skills because they refuse to waste time training that garbage. |

I thought about that. Make the specialized drone control cert not contribute to the Elite Drone Operator cert and push the racial spec skills down to IV for elite heavy drone op...perhaps?

I have 7m SP in drones. I have all the drone skills at level 5 except for Advanced Drone Interfacing 4, Fighters 3, Drone Durability 4, Repair Drone Operation 4 and Sentry Drone Operation 4. The carrier ones speak for themselves. Any carrier pilot using more than 3 drone control units is sacrificing valuable slots. Even a combat-oriented carrier makes better use of neuts than pumping its dps up with more fighters. The DPS of fighters is sorely lacking (barely 50% better than T2 heavy drones) and at 15m a pop there are better things to train than getting the fighters skill to level 4 or 5. The others are fairly simple too, I don't make heavy use of repair drones or sentries and as much as another 5% HP on my drones would be nice, 22 days is not worth it.
I have all other skills at level 5 apart from the specialisation skills. In those, I have Gallente Drone Specialisation at level 5 for maximum DPS Ogre IIs and Hammerhead IIs and I have Minmatar Drone Specialisation at a low level just to use warrior IIs for their speed. But according to the certificates, I have poor drone skills (Standard drone control, standard heavy drone control, standard combat drone control). Certificates have no actual use other than showing what kinds of skill sets a person has but in this case it's clearly not doing a good job of that. I have great drone skills, but it's telling me that to get them better I should spend three months getting all of the racial skills to level 5.
These are meant for new players to show them what skills to train for a particular ship but they're mis-advising players to train all the racial skills when they really don't need to. The amarr and caldari drones offer practically no advantage over the minmatar and gallente versions. Gallente deal the most raw damage, minmatar have explosive damage, the highest speed and the fastest tracking. Most people only train one main drone specialisation skill to a high level due to the high skill rank, that's why it's called specialisation :p. What the certificates should do is check if you have ANY ONE of the specialisation skills at a given level, not all of them.
