unless you declare war. Then you can fight that corp anywhere without having to worry about sentries, CONCORD, or security loss.

Depends on if you blow up the pod or not. Podding gives you a HUGE sec hit, the rest of it gives you smaller hits for EACH action you take. Every module you activate, every hit on them, etc.
Also, not all 0.0 space is sec hit free. There are some 0.0 systems, with names (not numbers and letters) and those are considered empire. In those systems you still take sec hits.
If you are worried about your sec status though, don't pirate. Sooner or later you will hit the wrong person in the wrong place and wind up not only wtfpwned, but also have a low enough sec rating to keep you outside empire.
Pirating is for people who don't care anbout sec rating really.

Er...wrong.
You get a 0.5% hit for starting agression, firing first, webbing, scrambling etc. I don't know the exact timer for this, but if the fight carrys on for long then you will take another. For every ship you destroy you take a 2.0% hit, and for every pod it's something around 20%.

Edited by: Comet Girl on 06/08/2004 15:31:29 I have been pirating the last couple of days. These are the values that I get.
Can hit: 0.4% Ship agression: 0.5% Pod kill: 2% (stupid people would not pay ransom)
So the damages are not all that great. You lose 0.2 sec for every pod kill, which is not terribly serious. You definetly cannot do it for a long time, and after you get far into negatives, people will know that you are a pirate, so they will warp out and dock as soon as you enter the system.
Edit: BTW, you cannot enter 1.0 systems if you have a sec status < -2.5 Some one's alt |

Ship kill is 2%, pod kill is like 12%.
So, in typical encounter, expect to take 2.5% hit, (agression, then ship kill).
Incidently, it appears that the same formula applies to sec movement through combat as it does things like running agent missions. Ie; the closer to 0.0 you are, the slower it moves (going up or down).

You dont get a security hit if you kill some1 outside empire space, the security level of the system doesnt matter

Not quite right, .5 for initial aggression and an additional 2% for ship destruction.
Note, same thing for drones, which is the stupidiest thing ever. Ie; every drone you kill lands you a sec hit.

Yes the drones thing is absolutely retarded. I was doing some nice ransoming and the guy sent drones after me. So I popped them in a sec with a SB. I did not even hurt the guy too much besides proving the point that i can. And I get a massive sec hit. That sux.
A thing to remember though is that killing drones count as ship destruction. So if you blow up your target's ship after you blow up his drones, you do not get an additional hit afterwards. You can only have one type of agression every 15 mins.
I wonder if you can get a couple of agressions within that time frame. Like catch 2 people in separate belts within that time period. Some one's alt |
