Connections III Social III
Right now I'm at 6.02 Federal Intelligence Office. I'm shooting for 8.0 so I can make a jump clone. I'm staying in highsec to preserve implants.
It seems like it is an absolutely grueling grind from where I'm at. Looking at 100+ missions to hit 8.0 at this rate. I'm in a battlecruiser which is unlikely to change for the time being, and my agent selection is limited to a L3 Q0 right now due to better agents being in or adjacent to lowsec.
Should I switch corps? Is there a "preferred path" that gets you high quality L1, L2, L3, L4 missions all in the safety of highsec that would be worth my time to switch to? (Most other factions are around ~2.0 due to Connections.)
Thanks :D

I would suggest that you work for Aurtie Ogidel in Halle VII - Moon 6 - Federal Intelligence Office Assembly Plant.
That will ensure that your storyline missions also come from the Federal Intelligence Office, thereby significantly accelerating your corp standings gains.
Halle is at least a few jumps away from any low sec systems, so you should not have any problems in that regard.
If you still get fustrated with the grind, you could look for a jump clone service.

Wow. Followup question: If I get a clone through a service like this, am I able to update them at will or do I have to rejoin the corp (I assume thats how it works?) every time I wish to save/load?

You don't "update" jump clones. Jump clones are entirely seperate from medical clones.
You purchase jump clones. Once purchases there is no way for them to be destroyed unless you choose to destroy them.
You would want to create however many jump clones you want while in the corp. Once you leave the corp you will always have the jump clones and can easily relocated them whereever you want. Only if you want to create more jump clones would you need to rejoin the corp.

A clone is set with the implants you have in, correct? So if I changed my implants then I'd need to make a new clone to keep those implants?
Or is it essentially another "me" and I can go "hey I want to be that other me" and switch? So I'd just park three clones (have skills) in convenient spots and forever just fly to the stations to swap between them? |

When you create a jumpclone, it is an empty clone that you can activate at will (well, so long as you haven't jumped within the last 24 hours).
When you jump to a jumpclone, your "current" body and whatever implants are in it are left behind at the station you jumped from (they become a jumpclone), and not only do you change location to that of the clone you jumped to, but you also now have plugged in whatever implants that clone had. For a newly created clone, this will always be no implants. You can of course go and plus in implants if you like - there is absolutely no distinction between your "real" body and a "jumpclone" body; jumpclones are just any bodies that you're not currently in.
There's no saving or loading of jumpclones, so I'm not sure what you meant by that. Also, you don't need to fly to the stations where the JCs are in order to interact with them; this would invalidate the point of them being jumpclones. Even if you were to fly there, there is no way to interact with a currently inactive clone. (Though you could leave items/ships at the station for you to use when you do jump to them; often I'll do this and drop off a set of implants for a new clone to plug in whenever I decide to activate them.) (And the medical clone is always a completely separate concept; it just determines where you wake up when you're podded and how many skillpoints (if any) you lose. Nothing to do with jumpclones at all.)

When you die, you go to your medical clone, not to a jump clone. Therefore if you have two jump clones, you actually have three clones. The death of the currently active "self" does not reduce the number of jump clones. You lose your implants and wake up in the medical clone, at which point you have to upgrade it and buy new implants as usual.
Interestingly, if you upgrade your clone, for example to Clone Grade Delta, all your clones are upgraded. There's no risk of jumping to a jump clone and finding your skill points unprotected.

Oh on the original question, yes, the last stretch is difficult. My old corp used to help a guy out when he was near 8.0 standings by just running missions for that one person all night. You'd pull missions from 2 or 3 different L3 agents and your corpmates would go kill the rats while you went to get more missions.
Make sure you train the skill "connections" to at least level 3 because that gives you a boost to standings, too.

Faction standing, though, right? Not corp standing I'd imagine. Am I wrong?

Faction standing will jump corp standing too because of how that stuff works.
Or if your standing were lower, you could use FW to have access to higher-level agents and such get your standing up much faster. But afaik you can already use almost every agent with a 6.02 ---- Logins required for this post: 375910 |

Also, I recommend you train Infomorph Psychology to level III or IV before making use of ajump clone service. That way, you can install 3 or 4 jump clones, giving you lots of options in the future.
In addition, I suggest you keep one jump clone free of (valuable) implants at all times. If you ever join a corp with offices in 0.0, there are times when being able to podjump is very handy.

Edited by: Mirei Jun on 15/02/2009 05:29:36 For the future, the best way to get standing fast is to find a corp with Lv 4s in high sec that offers courrier missions (and of course cloning services).
These can usually be finished in a few minutes per mission so getting to that required 8.0 status takes very little time (compared to hour+ long combat missions).
Good player corps usually keep high standings with certain NPC corps so all members have access to JC facilities in Empire.

- The fastest way to get your standing up is a combination of what's been said above: run mainly courier missions and make sure the storyline agent is for the same corp.
- Faction standing has nothing to do with jumpclones (not if you're grinding for one corp only anyway).
- For a detailed explanation of jumpclones check my comprehensive guide [PDF].
- If you're only interested in getting jumpclones, there really is no need to grind standings. You can use my free service or one of the other services.
