First, I'm not talking of people raiding 'can miners'. I'm talking of a situation today when I was doing a hard Agent mission, where I had to rescue a kidnap victim. It was quite a hard fight, for me, and when it was over, the rat drops were spread over a 100k's. I'd noticed a player frigate lurking about but didn't pay that much attention to it, the multiple launched missiles were a bigger worry at the time. But when I'd killed the last rat, I discovered that the player had been systamatically sweeping up the cans, as I killed the rats, including the one with the mission goal in. despite a request to at least return the mission goal item, the can theif just flew off hurling abuse and parting with the final comment "Don't bother hunting me I'll be using another name tomorrow". Thanks to him I failed the mission. Not only did I miss out on a big Standing increase with the agent and his corp, I actually lost standing, which is going to continue to cost me because I have worked with just one NPC Corp to get a good standing with them for refining and recycling.
I've always been a 'laid back' player. Though I'm no PvP player myself, I see who PvP is driving the game on, even for 'Carebear' players like me. It just annoys me that there are players in the game who seem to be there for the soul purpose of spoiling other players games. I wish that before CCP work further on developing the game, they'd do something about that first. I can cope with the gate camper, who blasts me for the hell of it as I pass through a system. That's my fault for not studying my map and local chats enough. I can even cope with asteroid field can theft, after all that's my fault I threw it out.
But to deliberatly screw another guys mission up, when there's absolutly squat he can do against it stinks pure and simple.
OK Rant over, I've got it off my chest, now back to the game

Imho, this incident is just as much your fault as any of the other things you mentioned. You just have to keep your wits razor sharp and remember the first and most pertinent tip given to newbies: in this game, trust nobody. ------------

those kidnap victims just never learn do they?
i must have rescued the same bloody damsel 1000 times and the dozy bint never gets wise... frankly i've considered blowing the biitch up myself, so this case of 'double kidnapping' has a sort of poetic justice IMO |

I had a different experience - I was just warping in to finish that final Raven from the "Sabotage" mission when I realised someone else was at the bookmark doing his own mission.
I convo'd him to make him aware I was going to be attacking the remainders of my mission spawn and he kindly moved aside to avoid any splash from my missile-defence smartbombs and finished his own spawn while I continued.
This was in a 0.9 system so he could easily have used his faster Caracal to nab my loot.

and exactly what was he supposed to do? if he had taken the time to loot the cans in mid combat, he could have lost the loot and his ship. i think his complaint is entirely valid. what's the looter going to profit from the mission item? it was a completely ****ty thing to do.
i agree with OZ. file a harassment petition and hope for the best.

I could understand if he tried to ransom the mission objective, for 100k or something,I mean it could be worth a lot to the right person I guess but just taking it seems to me like pointless griefing. ------------------------------------------------ I've always owned Kehmor, cheap as chips off Ebay

Here's my thought.
It was done with an alt.
So the alt was probably "working for" someone who pulled the mission.
The person who pulled it was too much of a chicken **** to go do it himself, so he sent the alt to camp the spawn (a mission he's probably familiar with and had made his own bookmark for).
My guess is that the person was waiting to have the cargo before accepting the mission. No kills, mission complete. Very exploitive of the alt mechanic.
I keep a teddy bear in my pod with me. A teddy bear with sharp teeth, massive claws, and a pinache for eating the flesh of podded corpses. I call him "Fuzzy". |

Edited by: Wolf DeRainger on 07/08/2004 07:23:11 I've had my whine about it and getting on with the game smug in the knowledge that I don't have to resort to such lame tactics in the game. All throughout my time in Eve I've played the trader/miner/hauler role, but more and more and more I'm getting so '****ed' at such play styles that I'm seriously toying with the want to sell off all my goods, strap on my fighting ship, and blow the crap out of such lame arses and bugger the positive sec rate

hopefully this sort of thing is taken care of with the criminal flagging for can thieves, so at least you might be able to retaliate.. stuff like this is dumb.. i dont have a problem with any pirating activity, if its done for a profit or with a specific goal in mind. griefing on the otherhand, which this is as the mission loot is completely worthless to the thief, is just idiotic. and it was worthless to him, as those missions require you to kill the rats AND nab the loot.. so just having the loot on hand does you no good. had he tried to ransom it, it would be acceptable behavior.

Edited by: RdAndy on 07/08/2004 11:21:57 What's the point? how much isk would he earn like that? almost nothing, unlike pirating or ore stealing, both profitable, I don't understand why someone would go steal loot on purpose. Do they feel good when they do it? if they do, they have one very sad life.
