BTW:For anyone with probs patching check here
Anyway seems like Singularity is down (and if so when it comming back), or something up at my end?

They have been having startup issues iirc, so sisi is down atm.
In the future look here or here for sisi status.

Yes, what a pain. I logged onto Singularity after patching up, which took awhile on my slow DSL connection, and got a notification that the server was coming down in 10 minutes. I wanted to check out their new changes.

How long is it expected to be down?

I am amazed that they don't have a single person there that can restart the server.

You don't know much about networking/servers do you?
This isn't some crappy Windows Server 2003 box that you just hit the reboot button on.
The Eve servers span MANY server. Each of which has to connect to all the other servers. In a lot of server setups, there is an order they have to be started up in, and there is normally a process to starting them up. Not just flip the switch and it starts up and everyone can play.
So, add all the real problems with "just someone can restart it right?" and add a NEW expansion.. there's a lot into running the test server right now. And since it's not a number 1 priority, being as it's a TEST server.. Give the guys a break.. there's some system/network admin working his ASS OFF trying to get that "server" up.

The point I was making was that once Sisi goes down at 0000hrs Eve time, it is down until someone comes into the office in the morning. I am well aware of what it takes to start a server farm. But it still amazes me that there is no one there to start the process.
If TQ went down at 0000hrs, would it be down for the rest of the night? I don't think so.

Not wanting to sound like a jerk but they don't have to give reasons why the TEST server is down , also it's the week end for them too , give them a break . And Sisi is a nice extra feature to Eve , but we're not paying for it . If you are bored , go on TQ

Actually, even though it's a big server farm, I'd be surprised if they actually have someone pass by all the servers and push every button. It'll most likely be the equivalent of some kind of switch. The actual maintenance that the downtime is for might take longer however, especially on a test server.

It's not a 'nice extra feature' - it's the bloody test server. Do they want feedback from players or not? The test server isn't a playground for bored players to go hang out in, it's where people are supposed to try out and test new features and provide feedback to CCP in advance. Hard to do that when it's turned off.
Much as I empathise with the issues they're having, as I work in software myself, it is somewhat irritating that the most popular time to actually beta-test, that of the weekends, has so much downtime. I hope whatever troubles they're having are resolved soon and wish them luck, as I know it's not easy. ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... Its's primary purpose is not for the players to test, it is for CCP to test. The fact that they let the players on as well is secondary to CCP's testing. Why do you think they posted all the bugs with the latest build before it went live to the players.

We have an autostartup process to deal with the late night reboots. Unfortunately, with all the changes in Apocrypha, we have had been having issues with manual startups, let alone automatic ones. We are working on these issues. I am hoping they will be solved today/tomorrow (note that this is not a guarantee).

For the same reason we post all our bugs and still release latest (stable-ish) beta builds to major customers with our software - so that they can provide feedback as early as possible in ways we simply cannot begin to test. In our case it is more complex than just a test build release; they have to sign legal disclaimers and so on, so in that sense I'm overjoyed that CCP are so open about their test builds, but anyone believing that CCP can test every circumstance by themselves is living in a dream world. It's vital that players get to test features out early and I'm very grateful CCP give us that opportunity. ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties...
