The occator has more cargo space and a natural build in +2 warp strength, which is always helpfull.
The viator has less low slots, less cargo space, but can fit an covert ops cloaking device.
I am not aiming at anti suicide gank fits, but for 0.0 traveling.
Which would you choose and which setup?

You should not use an Occator in null as you are not fast enough to escape bubbles. Viator, however, is fast enough. Use the following and replace expanded cargo with nanofiber/i-stabs if you do not need the space.
[Viator, New Setup 1] Expanded Cargohold II Expanded Cargohold II Expanded Cargohold II
Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive 'Hypnos' Multispectral ECM I 'Hypnos' Multispectral ECM I
Covert Ops Cloaking Device II
Low Friction Nozzle Joints I Low Friction Nozzle Joints I

The Occator is not a "blockade runner". It can't outrun a golf cart with 2 fat guys in it that is towing a trailer with 6 more fat guys.
For the Viator I would fit something like:
High: Covops cloak Meds: Y-T8 MWD, whatever, whatever Lows: Inertial Stabiliser II, 2x Nanofibre II Rigs: 2x Low Friction Nozzle Joints
Gets into warp in well under 4 seconds, will hit over 2Km/s.

the other one is Brutal slow nice tank but ull still die lost one just before QR and havnt used its replacment yet

So what exactly is an Occator good for?

Blockade runners are pretty easy to fit. MWD and ECM in the mid slots, cargo expanders or agility modules or tank depending on how much you need to carry and how much risk you're willing to take in order to carry it. High slot is a covert ops cloak. If you fly the Minmatar one, you have an extra high slot for a tractor beam or probe launcher or something.

Hauling large amounts of cargo in safeish space for people who dont like the idea of putting 40M ISK cargo rigs on a tissue-paper-tanked 1M ISK Ity V - the triple-ply quilted tank of the occator can at least withstand a few hits from rats while scooping up a can of Crokite. The +2 WCS also means it's not quite so vulnerable to roaming belt gankers.

This is excatly what the Occator is built for, dont be fooled by the +2 WCS strength, it is not made for getting around hostile space more hauling in 'safe' 0.0 space.
How to fit it?
I have an Improved Cloaking Device II in the top slot.
Lows are all cargo expanders
Mids, a shield buffer
Rig it if you want with Cargohold rigs.
Takes a full jet can and more, or lots from an Orca.

The point of the Occator is that it can use the MWD+improved cloak trick to get to warp reasonably safely, so always fit those. Other slots are up to you. -- Gradient forum |

QFT. I fly a Bustard in lowsec every day; I easily spend 80% of my EVE time flying this ship and I have only lost one in over 10 months of flying them. A t2 transport cannot be caught in lowsec except to bad luck, (exiting gate within 2k of another player/object, or module activation lag), however a transport will die in 0.0 to the very first bubble it encounters. Blockade runner for medium/small cargoloads, or 0.0 use. Deepspace Transport for 10k-40k loads in lowsec/highsec.
