If they do everything people say they do short of warping out, then will best gang to take into w-space consist of a dozen passive omnitanked Onyx's?
Pros: -No cap use -Monster tank + cruiser sig radius -Decent sensor strength
Cons: -Crappy dps -Potential problems resupplying with ammo
Let's hear your ideas for the best gang to bring against the Sleeper menace. -- Eventus stultorum magister. |

It's a caldari, so it will never have a cruiser sig radius.
Why not just bring drakes? Cheaper and likely better.

Drakes are decent, but their tank is weak compared to the Onyx. You can tank a level 5 in an Onyx with only t2 gear, you can't do that with a Drake. -- Eventus stultorum magister. |

looking at what has been posted already.
Amarr will rule w/s,
t1 crystals no expiry, and fitted cap independent, in other words a ship that doesn't require charges to be reloaded. only need to carry various ranging crystals.
This is if you get lost in space, then running out of charges will suck....
Otherwise a cloaked orca with a good tank, to sit in ss and carry charges and fittings for reloads/ repairs for the nominated gang, sort of like loading up the pack mule for a long journey.

Paladin/Kronos, Rook, Curse - with a Blockade runner or ideally an Orca for ammo, cap charges and salvage. The Orca allows the recons to be replaced with cov ops, Falcon and Pilgrim or interceptors when required.

- Mostly speed tanked (NPCs generally don't handle speed tank well) - High resists - Bang for buck (about 400 mil for pretty decent fits but does lots more DPS than, say, 3 ravens) - Neuters any cruiser/BS NOS usage. Frigs should fall under the heavy punch with good squad coord. - AI (in terms of picking primaries) made redunant by the fact it's a dozen similar targets. Means the AI *might* spread it's damage out, means less DPS to tank. - Whole squad fits in one orca ---

Ibis.
Don't underestimate it.
Ideally you'd want something like an Onyx or a Drake, but with one gang member acting as a logistics ship to supply ammo and combat repair.
A basilisk with a.. relatively eclectic fit will provide this to an extent.
What will suck, is if you can't split the groups of these ships - then you start playing a WoW Dungeon in space, and you'll need to enter w-space with a "Tank", "Healer" and "DPS" Ships.
I don't really wanna have to do that really.

Sleepers, as they are now... have almost instalock + they web stuff to oblivion = dead drones. Small drones usually survive the first alpha strike with <50% hull left, mediums/heavies die instantly.

Probably best to wait and see how it goes...
I can tell I'm going to have to buy a ton of GTCs to afford a decent ship to fly into W-Space though... not really looking forward to that element.
Oh and L5's fail really, they aren't worth the money to run considering what little you get out of them compared to the number of ships you need.
Was kinda hoping some W-Space encounters would be a solo affair, (for no where near as much potential isk obviously) but.. you know, as something other than L4s.

I'd say any mixed fleet will get the job done. Remember, Amarr ships can carry ammo for the other guys.
As for difficulty, bear in mind its a rough version and at the very least the highsec systems should be reasonably easy. As CCP has stated in the blogs its meant to be an alternative to T2 rather than an upgrade or replacement, I'm assuming even the highsec ones will drop enough stuff for some cruisers. _________________ [IMAGE REMOVED] -- aka Cpt Bogus -- Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

I'm very pleased CCP has referred to T3 this way because it means they won't stop at T3 cruisers. It can't be much of an alternative without T3 frigates, battlecruisers, destroyers and battleships, now can it? -- Eventus stultorum magister. |

Both having crazy tanks, Vulture providing gang bonus, and you've got a mix of turret and missile based DPS (as NPCs will change their strategy to deal with a one-trick-pony). And the Vultures can bring all the nice gang links.

To be honest with you, what do u expect? In pvp you use the same, healers as logistic ships, dps as dps ships, call it crowd control - all kinds of support ships. And if you have all of those, you ll be superior to the gang that doesnt, true?
Actually I would be glad to see this kind of Pve in Eve, much more amusing then ratting/missioning (or plexing as we know it atm).
You are not forced to bring a logistic ship either, maybe you will be forced to be more creative with you fittings (if you didnt, train for a Dominix! :D thats my evil plan, the ship can do all!)

But some are. Not all of them of course, and even the solo encounters will give you challenge, which is the point. As some players already stated it before, don't expect to face a level4 mission when going into wormhole space because Sleeper capabilities are far different from pirate factions in known space. |

So I guess the most important part of any gang would be a scout to determine the the targets strength and weaknesses, before decided the required force to defeat them.
Though im sure it wont take long for us to discover their weaknesses and make cookie cutter gangs that will pwn all sleeper.

Edited by: Ankhesentapemkah on 19/02/2009 13:08:27 I am a bit worried that once again the optimal strategy is passive-tanked cap independant ships, and that all other races are excluded because they are rendered useless due to cap dependency. The inability to regain cap when under fire means that any kind of active tanking (besides remotes) simply will not work, thus any solo endeavour is impossible unless it is a passive tank.
Just a bit of speculation of course, and will have to wait for more data (unfortunately whenever I'm on the test server, there are no wormholes to be found). ---

Well I don't know, a passive-tanked megathron doesn't really do that well compared to a nighthawk/vulture/onyx. And drones are out of the question as the NPCs lay waste to them almost instantly it seems, so there goes the spider-tanked-domi approach. Marauders with remote rep/shield/cap transfer might be something that's left because they have spare highslots and don't sacrifice DPS, but they also have much more mass thus you can bring less. ---

Most of the easier sleepers dont repair themselves the HARDER ones do however very slowly, but I dont see anyway a cruiser is going to withstand the firepower from a battleship for too long. =============

The real question in regards to cap wars is whether nos/neut have the 'correct' effect on Sleepers, i.e. shut down their tank if you do it enough. If so it should be balanced, but if they ignore EW rules like the current crop of NPCs then there will definitely be problems. _________________ [IMAGE REMOVED] -- aka Cpt Bogus -- Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

Sure if you like getting stuck waiting for the next wormsign because you've burned your mass allocation.
Personally I was thinking 2-4 Basilisks, a command ship or two, and an assortment of HACs. They've all got built in resists, so shield repping even an armour tanking HAC/CS will be useful, and ease the pressure on the armour tank dramatically.

Edited by: Mikeli Soth on 20/02/2009 00:28:24 Do the sleeper Battleships have a preferred range? Do they have infinite cap like regular npcs? do they have pre-nerf webs like PoS webs still have? Can you warp in at range and kill at least a few of their ships before they are able to close?
I suspect that Logistics that keep their range from the main blob, and work in at least pairs should not have a problem with incoming damage. Just make sure to stay out of nuet range, and hope that their long range ships cant 1 shot your main tank.

I actually sat uncloaked in a cov ops and wasn't even shot at until the end, and it was only by a single frigate.

How about a group of ECM ships ?
We see all the dmg they do, we here how they can neutralize you and how fast they are but if they are all jammed to hell thats not going to make much difference. --------------------------------------------

But some are. Not all of them of course, and even the solo encounters will give you challenge, which is the point. As some players already stated it before, don't expect to face a level4 mission when going into wormhole space because Sleeper capabilities are far different from pirate factions in known space.
Just speculating, but will the majority of the space linked in from empire be this kind?

Providing they are not immune to EW like other NPC's are
If Logistics ships are primaried, I'd guess Command ships will be too. Command Ships don't need to be on grid to give bonuses though. Send in a Covops and go off grid then send in a CS to warp to the Covops then bring the Covops out. Get your bonuses from the CS command modules for the other gang members when they come in through the WH. The right command bonuses should help a bit plus the gang skills of the CS pilot.

2-3 guardians, as many zealots as you can bring maybe some sacri's for tackle, as the combined cargo of all the ships should be enough to sustain one for a while. Sacris also have spare highs for probes if need be at least one anathema, to stay cloaked the entire time
all those soft targets are going to get primaried and owned bro
I fail to see how buffer tanks + huge RR are soft targets >.> Not exactly sure the numbers, but I know that sacris can get tons of ehp.. dps from what I understand isnt really an issue, and with 3 guardians, I somehow doubt that they can do enough alpha to take down one of the ships before you can get reps on it.
And the anathema just doesnt uncloak, so I dont see the problem with that :p

Btw, Gallente people you can passive shield regen tank a Domi to a suprising degree, if you had too, and still have a couple mag stabs and DCUII and good resists.
The problem with Domis is that by all reports drones are useless against Sleepers. Also, trying to create a dedicated 'tank' role out of a Domi is unlikely to work, as the new AI is supposed to be threat-based, and a ship with pathetic (or no) DPS will likely not qualify as a threat.

sentries set up at range should be able to live for at least a bit.

I've had some close range and use neuts, while a few have sat back at 80-120 and sniped for the most part.
It's sorta hit or miss really, I think the devs definitely out did themselves with the AI and setups, since it really is much like going against a small gang of moderately or low skill SP players. The fittings (best descriptor possible with it being a rat) vary, but they often compliment each other and force you to try and primary the highest possible threat.
Which by the way, isn't always the highest DPS ship there.
Drones aren't totally ineffective, but IM noticing a repeating pattern of getting wtfBBQ or being worthless in a group setting with either the Domi or Ishtar. To even have some effect requires some insane mgt of your drones, which to be perfectly honest is a Fing PITA. |

Will the Sleepers be effected by EWAR?? if they do...
u will need a falcon, rapier, black ops, and lots of stealth bombers jump in falcon, rapier and as much as stealth bombers you can SBs shoot and damp sleepers, rapier web them (i heard they have MWDs) while falcon stay cloak scanning for next spawn/hostile sleepers dead, rapier/falcon salvage if exits turns out to be hostile space/middle of nowhere, Black Op friend (hopefully in range) can bridge them back

its not for cynoning from inside of w-space. just in case ur k-space exit is very far/dengerous from u HQ, the black ops could cyno u back home ( from the exit k-space).

Seems Theses Sleepers are very big challenge, and it's really cool but as stated before i think it will not be worth at all to do them initially as the risk / reward will be completly crap
T3 stuff extracted from wormhole space at the prices of days man hours, tenth of millions of isk (only if it turn good), blood, sweat and tears + infrastructure to produre a full t3 cruiser that almost nobody will buy because i dont see why ppl would buy a t3 cruiser when for the same price they would be able to buy 10 HAC furthemore a ship who can make you loosing SP... Even if t3 cruiser power will be what HAC are to t1 cruiser (but i doubt it...) I think ppl will rush initially for fun as it is ans will be but when we will realise that WH is like doing a lvl4 with a team of 5 ppl will stop to in, then CCP will have to adjust it
