Obvious troll is obvious. Also...fail.
I am merely being a bit sarcastic. Yes the Video is well made, but because of multiple reasons, both game mechanic and the attitude of most players here, something like that would never happen.

Ehh... visually, it's a splendid video, but I dislike the breaking of the fourth wall. I far prefer the storyline-oriented trailers we get with major expansions. The voiceover was also average at best; it's like whoever made the video asked the guy in the next cubicle to read off a script into a mic.
It's great for giving newbies a clearer picture of the game, however - one thing I would have done, is showing the newbie attacking some super-veteran player in a battleship, to dispel the rumour that newbies can't catch up to vets in Eve. Not my favourite overall, but still pretty to look at.

That was a fun video. As always, thanks for the entertainment.
That may not be the average new player experience in EVE, but it is not beyond believability. Players who take the initiative do get to see a lot more of the game sooner than the rest of us (I play fairly conservatively myself, a bit of a constant regret really), and I have certainly run into people who have lived "above their (SP) means" by virtue of a good attitude and willingness to roll up their sleeves and work at it.
Also, regarding low-SP players involving themselves in "endgame" activities, do look to the Goons for inspiration. Love them or hate them, the Goons are proof that you can take a brand new player and put him or her to good use as a tackler and scout on the front lines. It may be grunt work for stratospheric-SP pilots, but it is vital work too. It's probably also a good test of whether you want to stay the course: if you aren't having fun out in that tackler frigate, you probably aren't going to have fun once you are sitting in a BS 6 months later either.
Show of hands: how many people would have reported the miner as a macro and flown off or joined in for the free killmail? ;) No super happy fun fleets for us!

Nicely transformed that into a good video. \o/
I thought the same thing.

Very cool video, which is just what I'd like to show to friends - "This is EVE- what I spend so much time at".
That said, my friends are not native English speakers, and if they are a bit like me, they will also have a problem getting all the narrator say.
Please redo the audio with a narrator that speaks a little slower and clearer, and tune down the soundtrack. Had I not been familiar with EVE, I'd have had even more a problem getting all he said.

very nice vid
BUT why oh why do the rokh's at 1:40-1:45 have the old shield effects and the old energy transfer effects? i guess you couldn't be arsed to remake the scene as you already had some footage but i demand you make new footage of that bit with the new effects and re-render it, re-upload it so i can re-watch it with the proper effects |

I can't say I don't like it, but I prefer the old style, or more of the old style in it. This one tastes a bit too U.S.A. for me. Don't get me wrong, I like some parts of it, but I think it would be better if it was more like the old style movies.
I think EVE never fades cannot be replaced by this. Hmm, I don't know why I said that...

I initially felt it was abit unusual with angle of the commentary, but I want to say I ended up thinkin it was nicely done. I expected the voiceover to turn sensational or become distant but that did not happen at any time imo.
The map effect looked nice and contrasty. Alot of future potential with the map I think.
Today I looked up a system on the map ("show on map") and ended up staring at a lot of dots with no names or anything, so future changes to the map will be welcome :)

Loxyrider did it? That would explain the good quality. At least one of his other vid was a bit similar from the point of view and such, true enough, could be.

I feel the scenario played out during the video is terribly unlikely.
Still a good video, but the most probable thing would be:
Kill pirates, be hero, miners friends kill and podkill you because you were not blue.

well, being that some of his footage is in it...
VERY nice video. About time we had something other than pretty flybys, not since that outlaw vid way back in 2003 at least
like someone said, you stick that on TV and eve subs would go through the roof
My only gripe is that a mining barge totally wouldn't live that long

Edited by: murder one on 29/07/2009 21:28:15 I was talking to a guy in a bar the other day and I was trying to explain Eve to him and why it was so unique- the sandbox style of play (vs. 'themepark games like WoW), the fact that it's not instanced (again, like WoW) and the fact that it's so player driven with respect to the economy and industry and so on (unlike WoW).
This video gives me the *perfect* tool to show him what I'm talking about, even if it's a little sensationalized and unrealistic regarding the initial player experience and the size of the fleets and composition etc.
Yeah, it's hype, but who cares. Excellent vid, very good production values with respect to the titling and compositing etc. Voiceover needs some work obviously but it's clearly someone doing their best with the resources at hand than hiring some very expensive voice acting. I doubt anyone here could have done better.
--edit--
Now where is my video depicting the pirate lifestyle in Eve?

Excellent video an a wonderful idea and take on the sandbox.
I look forward to more. Maybe you could do the miner's point of view - leading via an industrial to the construction of a titan
or the pirates point of view.. leading to a revenage attack on the lone wolf
the possibilities like eve are endless Hug a Carebear, Kill a pirate, squish a Rat, and tickle a dev.

Just re-watched it on the bigger monitor - yeah, well spotted.
The MG looks like his style, editing looks like ZOND3 with the reverse swish-zoom, with some Loxyrider split-screen transitions.
It's all so so smooth.

mmm goosebumps.
Very nicely done video. It really takes a video presentation to impress upon people the truely epic scope of what EVE is and has acomplished.
I would definatly love to see more videos of this type. They are great marketing tools and really help us explain to our friends who dont play EVE just exactly what is so fascenating about this game.

Very nice video, one that shows EVE Online for what it is! Any chance you're going to air this on commercial television?
One remark though, there is mentioned that EVE has 300k players in 230 countries. Now I'm pretty sure that has to be 300k ACCOUNTS in 230 countries. That brings me to a question I've been wondering about, how many PEOPLE are playing EVE Online?

Very cool video. Sometimes I wonder if the game-play doesn't get monotonous, but reading the stores of others' exploits are very fun. Then I wonder if any of my adventures get retold and make the game more fun for others. I'm sure many people feel the same way but the reality of Eve is that it only gets repetitive if we make it that way. The only restrictions in Eve are those we place on ourselves. ================================================ 00:59:14 Notify The Guardian Veteran is too far away, you need to be within 48400.0 meters of it but are actually 57737.3598289 meters away.

The scenario played out was more likely in the days before NBSI became SOP throughout most of 0.0 around 2005, but as memories go, this is very slick. Well done.
