So .. well, I realize most, if not all people here will see this as a minor thing, but anyway:
So I decided to be a thief. I got myself some skills for scanning, bought myself an expanded probe launcher and some combat scan probes and fitted those to the Imicus I got from one of the tutorial missions, together with an afterburner.
Then I went to Dodixie since I've read there might be a lot of mission runners there. After 10 tries, or even more, of following some battleship to its destination system (several stargates being right next to each other and me often warping to the wrong one *grumbling*) and scanning them down (oh gosh, I feel so clumsy when thinking of my attempts) I managed to see a Vargur warping off to someplace above the star in a neighbouring system of Dodixie.
So I sent my probes out, trying to catch that thing. Luckily Marauders seem to be easy to scan down, because I found the Vargur pretty quickly, and 5 minutes later I had a warp-in.
So in I warped. Accelleration gate. Okay. Warp again. Vargur, many red crosses, some lootable wrecks and.... another ship, which upon inspection said it was a T3 battle cruiser of the type "Tornado", in the same corp as the Vargur.
At that point I almost warped out again, but then decided to take at least a look into the wrecks. I mean .. only looking doesn't make them able to shoot at me, right? I was careful not to draw attention of the red-marked ships, and.. once peeked into the wrecks, I couldn't help myself and grab some things that my AI told me were expensive.
Heart thumping, ready to warp out.. but.. nobody shooting at me. So I continued zipping from wreck to wreck, grabbing something here and there, and suddenly... Half my armor gone. Dammit, why was I so careless? Warp! Warp! .. and.. after two more misses of the large .. artillery? of that Tornado, I was warping out. Phew!
Sold the stuff I got, at least worth several times my Imicus.
It was really exciting. It might sound silly, but it was really exciting.
One question, though: I could have shot at that Tornado, right? How long could I have?
I was playing with the thoughts of warping back with my Tristan, trying to shoot that thing down, but then decided against. Because I didn't know how long I'd be able to shoot at that thing, because I was fairly sure I wouldn't be able to deal enough damage to kill it, and most of all because there were two ships, fairly far apart from each other, of the same corp, and I suspect the other one could have blown me away easily. And now that I think about it, I didn't have a warp disruptor either.
.. Well, that's it. Nothing special, I just wanted to share, since this was my first illegal activity and being shot at. |

Amen sister, amen. Keep doing it. Depending on the mission I can make 10-15 mill isk in about 20-30mins, including scan time. Train towards a pvp BC then start shooting back, with the right tactics a pvp cruiser setup can kill a BS. Just orbit close and you should be fine. Put a ship scanner on your ninja ship, that way you know what you are fighting. Cheers. |

Oh.. I heard you were flagged to everyone of the same corporation you .. ninja from, but not that you could be flagged to everybody else, too. That's good to know! I'll have to be more careful, then. |

Not in place yet so no worries. Crimewatch will/may, changes pending, make ninja looters legal targets for everyone, which is dumb, but there are ways to deal with that. Just safe spot dump your loot for 15 mins they go grab it after suspect timer is done. |

Thank you. I will. But I don't have time to fly that much recently, so aside from a little more thievery without much noteworthy events (maybe aside from the friendly chat I had with that one mission runner and some others in local, really relaxed guys) I haven't done much.
I'm currently training for cruisers to get into something with a little more firepower than my puny frigates, for shooting back at meanies who shoot at me first. I was thinking of Thorax or Vexor maybe (since I am Gallente after all).
Edit: to clarify that. I was planning to keep that cruiser in the station to switch into after someone shot at me. Not planning to do the thievery.. or ninja'ing? .. in something that expensive (and slow). |

Next time, if you are anywhere near that Tornado when he shoots you, plz kill it. Large arty doesn't hit moving frigates for crap. Especially AB-fit ones. Just don't fly straight in. Spiral in. Oh, and make sure to fit a warp scrambler. "How do you kill that which has no life?" |

Ah, ninja looting. A career choice that is close to my heart, and definitely a profitable one for new players who refuse to just go around trying to play Eve as if it where a single player game.
There is a very good buddy of mine that makes billions very easily going around, scanning down mission-bears, ninja-looting them and coming back in a bigger-badder ship when they shoot back and blowing them to space dust. He gets faction/deadspace modules galore. Even more importantly, he gets some of the most succulent, delicious carebear tears.
I hope, nay pray, that you stick with this. Even if you are not super successful at blowing up carebears who foolishly decide to shoot at you, your skills at scanning will be impeccable and will serve you very well throughout your career in Eve. You'd be surprised how many people suck goat nuts when it comes to quickly scanning down ships. Post with your main or GTFO! The Sandbox = Play however the hell you want. |

Small update, as promised, but not a glorious one:
Today I chickened out, I have to admit :(
I looted some items in a mission run by someone in a Megathron Navy Issue. As he finished the first part, instead of using the accellerator gate, he suddenly shot at me. I got out with a few scratches and hurried back two jumps to my "base" .. where I had a brand new Incursus.
But instead of getting into it and get back at that meanie.. I chickened out. I told myself I couldn't kill such a big ship with my frigate anyway. As I got angry at myself for being such a chicken, it was too late already, so I flew back in my Imicus to the mission, looking whether there was more stuff to grab or whether that guy would shoot at me again, determined to at least try the next time, screw dying or being ridiculous because of not having enough damage. It's all experience, right?
.. well, hindsight *sighs*
Anyway. The mission was discontinued, I barely could warp out from the next area before the NPCs killed me. Just as I docked up into a nearby station to rest and think a bit, I saw the person who ran the mission before undocking in something called "Daredevil", which is supposed to be a nasty evil little bastard, from my research.
So, bottom line: I probably avoided being killed by being a chicken, but I'm ashamed. I am determined to get out there the next time and book it under "gaining experience". |

In an Incursus, you may have had troubles. Most likely the Mega was permatanked and the best you could hope for was that he wasn't and had a cap instability where he'd eventually run out and would die a glorious death. This, my friend, is when you would've loved to have a Catalyst with T2 blasters. With good skills and maybe a cheap hybrid damage implant, you could've dealt in the upwards of 700dps on his fat, slothlike, carebear rear-end and probably killed him. Here's the trick...
Smaller ships can easily "speed tank" larger ones. The vital part is getting onto them fast, like within 500m, keeping a tight orbit, and flying as fast around them as possible. I'd probably recommend and AB for this since it'll reduce your ships signature radius. Whatever you do, don't approach them head on. Fly towards them at an angle and then get into a very tight orbit. Then scram and start hammering them with your AB on. Kill their drones first if they launch them at you. This is very important. As you probably know, Gallente ships have very large drone bays. Kill their drones and a BS won't be able to hit you at that close of range and at the speed you'll be flying at.
My buddy flies frigs and destroyers exclusively, mostly the Wolf. He kills BC's and BS's all the time. It takes a bit of piloting finesse, but see if you have a friend you can practice on or just do it on the test server (SiSi) until you perfect it. May you be blessed with many carebear kills and/or fat ransoms.
And yes, Daredevil's are definitely evil little bloody ships. It used to be that the Dramiel was the most badass of all the frigs, but since it got nerfed and hybrids got a nice boost...the Daredevil really leads the pack as far as frigates are concerned. Post with your main or GTFO! The Sandbox = Play however the hell you want. |

Thank you for your tips. I see that the approach is probably the most difficult part when surviving in the scenario you described. I really need to get out there and practice this. I'll look into the catalyst, too. A destroyer has the advantage over cruisers that I don't have to train medium weapons, so maybe that's an early alternative for a ship with some punch. |

You are a great person, keep it up.
The vexor is a great ship to use against mission runners, drones being able to do all 4 damage types.
Here's a tip, pay attention to the rats/wrecks in the mission you're stealing from. Know the missions these guys are running, then if you're shot at you can come back with drones that will deal damage to the lowest resists in the MR's tank. Makes killing them even easier.
If you see serpentis rats, use minmatar drones on armor tank ships and amarr for shield tankers. Angel rats, use gallente on both. Possum's Awesome : Awesome Possum

Awesome stuff, you "get" EVE :)
You can also salvage the wrecks, and this is not considered "illegal" and will not make you red to those you steal from. I know nothing about making money off ninjaing, so no clue how profitable this could be vs. taking loot, but it is another way to get extra cash.
I hope you will one day make your way from ninja to pirate

Small update: I am too nice.
I warped into a mission and found some wrecks to loot. Which I did. Not many, and the mission runners destroyed them for some reason, but I got the valuable items before that.
There was one container floating around, though, with an item called "gate key". I thought that was something they needed to advance with the mission, so I asked them if they needed it. They answered by shooting the container, then activating the accelleration gate. And I couldn't follow.
Well, that'll teach me, I guess, hehe.
Also thanks a lot for all the helpful hints and tips! I'll be sure to watch the mentioned videos soon.
Edit: Oh yes. I read about a trick about scanning, involving the directional scanner to narrow down the distance in which the ships I am looking for are. But I guess everybody but me knew about that already, hehe. Was helpful so far. |
