Is it just me or post speed nerf Light Combat drones are usless against interceptors ?
My theory is that before speed nerf orbit speeds of Intys were so high that Warr II could barely keep up but would not stop and so kept the range and were always shooting.
No they are faster than Intys but when they arrive at them they try to start orbiting at a very low speed and the Intys get out of weapons rang , the process is repeated ad eternum with no real damage applied to the Inty.
Any thoughts ?

with the proper mid slots you will find a warrior II will travel just as fast as a ravens cruise missile, thats fast!

Web the inty and you'll see significant improvement.

As an interceptor pilot, I disagree with most of the replies in this thread so far.
I fly the Ares (5.4 k/s), have over 600 kills with it and yes, warrior IIs damage me. They need to gain speed all over again after each volley, but they make it really hard to hold a target forever. With a Coreli C-Type MWD, my signature radius gets really really small and they miss most of the time, making it even longer before I have to disengage, but I have to disengage at some point.

Warrior 2s can force inty to stop tackling /maxed/, but it takes some time /45s - 1m 30s/. So if you rely only on them to get rid of tacklers, you wont be happy. Good inty pilot WILL hold you long enough for blob to come.
Some inties are capable of shooting them down, some inty fits can tank them.

Edited by: Hussain on 22/12/2009 00:44:30 My last experience was my Vexor Navy vs a Claw.
I did manage to outrun/outmaneuver him and friends after 3m48s in the meenwhile he got 5 warrII and 2 HobII... he didnt get to half shields. He was orbiting me arround 3800m/s and 17-24k and didnt seem to have an active shield tank.
Before that I had an experience with my Proteus vs Ares he hold me for 4m12s before blob come, he wasnt shooting my warrII and was starting to get to structure. I died horribly.
I thought that the problem with my Proteus fit was that I didnt had the damage bonus, I did have it with the Vexor and results wrent good either. Is the shooting of the drones that important ? Even with Hp bonus are they that vulnerable ? Or is it because they stop and are easy targets ?
Don Pellegrino says that they stop after each volley so my theory might be correct. So If I had Hob Is going arround 3500m/s would they be more effective ?
Any thoughts ?

I fly inty's quite a bit,
I have to say it really depends on the drone skills of the pilot. I have held down people for a long time (including vaga's) while not even worrying about drones. I have also killed all their drones on other occasions if they are persistant about it.
Then...old chars sic drones on me and I can tell right away they have awesome drones skills because the warrior 2's start hurting me immediately and don't stop. Shooting them also takes forever, so I have to get out even though my gunnery supports are almost all at 5.
I always laugh when a target pops out hobs after me...anything other than warrior 2's I don't care.
Someone put hammerhead 2's on me once...I kept lapping them

This issue is very annoying for Gallente drone boat pilots.
This doesnt just apply to light drones versus inties.
CCP, please fix.

I would say no, I used to be able to completely outrun light drones so that they would never get a shot off on me, period. Ever. Post patch you can rarely do this anymore except against someone with really terrible skills. It does take some time to force an inty off you with light drones, but pre-speed nerf, I can think of at least a dozen kills where I tackled a guy long enough for support to arrive from 3-4 jumps out. You could still do that now if you get lucky of course, but most of the time, you'll get forced off or die way before that...
Warrior II's go what, like, 6k? Inties used to do 9, so unless the inty was unlucky/bad and got neuted or webbed, or randomly stopped to turn around and warp out... drones would never kill them.
However, I would say that they've gotten less effective in one way - people have started flying tanked inties way more often and gotten more adept at killing the drones rather than just ignoring them. |

Are EC-300s or whatever thay are called (light ECM drones) any better against intys? I'm thinking of purely breaking their tackle. Sick drones on em, allign, spam warp. OK, so you lose the drones, but they are stoopid cheap anyways.
All depends on whether they can catch and 'hit' an inty with their ECM I suppose?

Three changes I'd like to see:
1. The ability for drones to shoot while MWDing (if they don't do this already).
2. The 'intelligence' to keep their MWD engaged if their target's velocity exceeds their own non-MWD velocity.
3. A dynamic orbital range set to, for instance, 80% of their optimal range. This would allow for scaling their orbital range with modules, skills, etc.

You will need Warrior IIs, ECM drones are horribly slow and Hobgoblins will never even get a single volley on an inty. That's the wonderful thing about inties: you only die when YOU make a mistake. You can't really lose in an inty, because you just have to disengage if your friends are still too far when you hit half structure.

This. But ppl flying inties are only humans and they make mistakes too, so its not that bad to get rid of tackler.
But good inty pilot will tackle almost everything for enough time /exceptions are vagas and some other fast moving and good tracking ships, for example canes are much harder to tackle than harbis etc./.
Btw maxing your drones is good start to make tacklers life more interesting heh.

I fly Crows mostly, and by far Warrior II's are my biggest enemy. I can maintain a 22km orbit at just under 5km/s but after 90 seconds those drones have me in armor and I need to get the hell out of there.
Living in Angel space where everyone packs Warrior drones doesn't help much either
Oh, and some of these faction ships are *very* dangerous to interceptor pilots - I'm learning that the hard way!

Stiletto with MSEII can tank a flight of light drones either until it kill them all, force recall or backup arrives. |
