I've learned that the in-game currency can be converted to play-time for EVE...This is really cool considering you have to pay monthly for this MMO. That aside, I was curious as to how much time and work would be required to earn enough play-time for a month? I don't play that often during the week, but weekends are fine. Are there any tricks or tips? I've also learned there is an entire stock market in which the player can earn a living from, is this worth the time. Any input is welcome.
Thanks |

Hello Hugo Hess,
To answer your question it all depends on you. How much time you put into EVE. If your running missions and you put a few hours worth of time your reward will come out of that. If you don't put much time into EVE well then you might not have as much of a reward.
Players to make a living off of the market by trading things around New Eden. I would recommend looking at this guide if that is something that interests you. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Trading ISD Athechu Commander ISD STAR (Support Training and Resources) EVE New Citizens Q&A Resources |

Don't play EVE with the intention of buying PLEX because that mindset will hijack your gametime and ruin the whole point of it.
If you play and happen to become spacerich then sure...But grinding and grinding and grinding just so you can buy PLEX is a bad idea. |

PLEX currently run about 450-500Misk, or did the last time I checked (admittedly a few months back). Look at how much isk you make in an hour of play doing whatever you're doing and divide the first number by the second. That's how many hours you'll need to play in a month doing what you're doing to maintain a subscription, plus you'll need more on top of that to buy your ships and modules, probably.
Also, there's no such thing as playing for free. PLEX aren't free, they're other people paying your subscription in return for you giving them isk, i.e. grinding the boring stuff for them. On the plus side, no direct cost to your pocketbook, but on the downside in-game you're doing a lot of what is probably kinda boring work or giving up your lucky breaks to someone else.
Basically what I'm saying here is that paying is a better allocation of your life unless you actually enjoy grinding isk without an actual benefit. 15$ represents, even for the shittiest job possible, 2 hours of work. 500Misk probably represents far more than that unless you just really, really love missions or mining that much and would do them for free if they didn't pay out. |

I highly discourage to start playing EVE just to play for "free".
It will end in this cycle:
1.) Grind missions / mining / what ever you do to make money for ISK 2.) Grind enough to make 450mil ISK by the end of the month 3.) Buy a PLEX of the market 4.) Put game time on account 5.) Go back to 1.)
PLEX in game are nice, but don't make it your focus. Like said 15$ isn't that much and usually takes less time to make then the price of a PLEX.
I run multiple accounts, usually all paid by RL money. I only use an ingame PLEX when I find out my wallet is getting big and I can afford to spend some money on a PLEX. This is also cause besides that PLEX (about 450mil ISK) you need extra money to buy ships, modules and skills. So likely you either:
A.) Make barely enough ISK for a PLEX. But don't have money to spent on ships, modules, skills. This will limit your progression. B.) Spent money on ships, modules and skills to progress in EVE yet end up with not enough ISK to buy a PLEX.
So my suggestion:
Pay for EVE with real cash, use the PLEX to pay for your account when you have the income to do so. Don't focus on "Play to Pay", focus on "Play to have fun", the ISK to fund your account will come in time (or not at all if you' choose too). Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. Basically what they said above, don't play just to grind ISK to pay for game time.
PLEX is going for around 480 million right now. One will get you one month's of game time. For a new player, earning 480 million is NOT easy, unless you grind several hours a day non-stop (you miss the point of the game if you do this). Mining and running low level missions will take hours each day to get to that amount, non-stop. |

Get good at the game paying $, then if you find you are skilled at making isk easily then and only then think about buying plex instead.
But FYI there are lots of people who pay for plex with less than 6 - 10 hours isk-making work a month. |

If you can get yourself setup to where you are making MORE than 400-500mil per month in game without insane amounts of grinding, then PLEX funding via in game isk is a viable option.
If you are grinding up isk for hours for the sole purpose of buying a PLEX, you're doing it wrong and turning EVE into a 2nd job.
There are plenty of ways to make more than enough for a plex each month...but such ways depend on either leveraging a large pool of existing assets, or having the knowledge and character skills profit from opportunities.
This can be VERY difficult for a new player who is unfamiliar with EVE, its economy and mechanics, especially if you don't have a good corp/alliance to assist you. A good first step is just subscribing with normal money (The 3 month plan is very economical) and get in game to experience it all. By the end of those 3 months + trial time you'll have a keener sense on your ability to make ISK. YOu can then determine if continuing to play via subscription or PLEX is a better option for you. In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse. |

To make that work you really have to find isk making you either enjoy or is very rapid.
In trading it takes money to make money. But station trading is scaleably lucrative and relatively safe.
Market PVP means you wont loose your Pod or your ship, but you could loose a **** ton of isk if your not careful.
