Yes I know all the whining about "they giving you a update for free" ... all those ppl i like to tell grow up, own your own money ... we are customers and not petitioners paying CCP for charity-work
This comment is bang on- free update my ass- what the hell is our monthly subscription for? If your satellite tv service packed up or your mobile phone provider failed to get their service up and running, people would be pretty brassed off then, so why should this be any different? |

1. ccp sells us mass fleet battles. 2. Makes lovely planets.......fleet battles get screwed up. 3. expansion.....lights on keyboard, facebook and lovely new suns. 4. Customer service = sorry we have strict policies..can we close your petition now. 5. They have us post, thousands of great ideas and yet this is the best they can do. 5. Patch day.....we are running late....how much time does it take to figure out where we are all posting and maybe give us an hourly update, here. 6. we have players that think it is cool to suck ccps ass. Before im told to go play another game.....i like this game, it has more right than wrong. The most inteligent posts have been the negative ones. At least they try to improve things. I hate the sheep.... "ccp is doing what they can, be mature". These guys all sat up at the front in school.....100% sure.

I can't even download Tyrannis. By the time this downtime is over in like two days, I won't be able to even download to play! Seriously, this game is fun to play every now and then, but how do I play a new expansion if I'm unable to get it?

Lol, I only have like 15 years with computers so I might be mistaken, but from my experience if you tell people how long it'd actually take (using your formula) they'll tell you to **** off. So you say, "ok, no problem, I haven't get laid for some time anyway" and try to gfto. Then they say, wait!, hey you're SOOO good, maybe you can do it in half of the time. Then you say, well, maybe, just make sure you pay in advance. Then you find yourself doing overtime to get things done while everybody else is drinking beer or having fun otherwise.
Props to the CPP team working on getting my favorite servers up and running right now :).

I have to agree with this. Yes - all you people saying "Stop *****ing / go find something else to do, there is more to life than Eve" point taken. However, as has been mentioned by others, we are actually paying customers. As they're over schedule, it would seem at least professional for them to at least either give an ETA of when they anticipate it will be back up, or at least tell us 'we don't know how mush more time we're going to need."
Just leaving us all wondering is unprofessional and frustrating.

Seriously, is this game life or death for some of you? Patch deployment has obviously hit some unexpected problems. Would you rather they just chuck the servers back online and then we get random disconnects and bugs for the next 24 hours?
I really don't understand the crap that comes out of some people. Its pretty contradictory that some guys are so upset that they have to cry, ***** and whine on the forums (suggesting that they really do care about the game) and then don't even have the decency to wait a few extra hours while CCP busts a nut getting things sorted. Sounds to me like some of you have some pretty deep rooted issues.
Maybe time to turn the computer off and go for a walk, maybe open a window. |

Well I do work in IT. CCP is nowhere near the best or worst in preparing for software upgrades. However, coding surprises at production deployment time are a sign of bad management at test and pre-deployment time. However, loading and especially configuration of support software can also have significant impact to deployment if done manually instead of fully scripted from test server experience -- more room for error, omission, and fumbling in the dark.
I would bet the overall CCP coding staff is very good to excellent. But every sign points to CCP software management being very optimistic about skipping details in pre-deployment due to a desire to pinch pennies on the test server environment. CCP should have done at least one dry run where they re-deployed new software to the test servers. Either that was not done or the test environment is cheap and only roughly approximates the production environment -- a common management cost saving measure.
Not saying they should buy all the same hardware, though that would be optimal and provide a backup site. But the test server should have all the exact same software and have a virtual box for every real hardware box in the production environment...or where dozens of the same box exist in production at least enough to simulate the connection architecture.
The test server should at least be exposed to the complete user database a week or two before deployment.
The 'we'll fix it when it hits the real hardware and data' approach maybe traditional and the most widespread approach to deployment but its not a good one for real time services to large user groups. That approach is the IT Ego model that says customers can just FO and die if they can't wait. However, that approach is usually forced on conscientious IT groups by penny pinching upper management until they cave and lose their integrity. I suspect that is partially true in CCP due to outside deadlines and money pressures and top managers now well removed from direct code involvement.

Chill out
Crack a cold one
and shut the f*** up cause it will be done when its working, not when its just running.
Its quite obvious as well that i was addressing CCP and NOT you, so stfu yourself. As for the first part of your post. I said they were checking BEFORE thousands of players logged on which is the equivalent to test server. Next time you decide to interject in a rant at least know what you are talking about please.
Then do the world a favor and write them a letter, fill out a ticket, or what I prefer cancel your account. Also I was not aiming at you, I was aiming at everyone crying like a 2 year old on here. Because it is a public forum and I have the right to do that. So next time you rant, realize that you are not the only person in the world.
p.s. you are obviously one of the IT ******ed people i was refering to
Didn't know you spoke for the world. If even half the people who felt as I do canceled their account CCP would be out of business quick. CCP needs players NOT for their current players to tell others to cancel. Realize that this is a public forum and you havent the ability to tell me what I will and will not say. If I want to rant that is my buisness to do so. You had the ability to just simply ignore it but you had to include your 2 cents worth. I frankly dont give a crap what anyone says but don'tt sit there and tell someone to not rant because you don't want to here it. All I can suggest is exiting the browser because I will rant as I please so get over it because I won't simply stop because you choose to belittle me and assume I am clueless. As for your PS......wow it takes a big man to call a person a ******ed IT person. Your insults does nothing but fuel my rant thanks.
and your rants are the reason people like me make a lot of money. Cause if it was up to you we would all still be living in caves.
Have a nice day
Mr IT person
p.s. the patch links do work, the patch is about 290mb.
The actual download page is http://www.eveonline.com/patches/patches.asp?s=&system=win&edition=&n=154365 for anyone who doesnt trust the links with an exe attached to it, however you will be downloading the patch from that page anyways. It just takes a step out |

A word of advice to CCP - after over 30 years with computers - take the estimated patch time, round it up, then double it - finally add 50% for unexpected stuff.
Result: Each time the server will be up before estimated time - ppl be happy - and everyone thing you rock bcause youre way faster then they tought - and ppl wont whine bcause youre over time.
Win-win.
- Tiger
Maybe that is exactly what they did?
They really should estimate their time, double it, then add 50%. And with that time they got then, they should double that time, add 50%.
That way people would be happy with that the server is up early.
--
Yeah, but maybe that is what they did.
Thay should really do what you say above and then double it, add 50%...
Awwwh, seriously. Estimate a time based on what you can tell and then correct that. That is the most easy and effective way to do it.
It's just like pushing the clock 10 minutes forward because you are always late :S |

So we should just create a game that caters to your style of playing? Unless you increase your monthly payment to $1,000.00 you might need to learn to share the gaming experience and respect other gaming styles.
Also, as far as I know, Eve is one of the few games that doesnt use multiple servers so we all play in the same universe instead of splitting us up. Maybe they looked at the problem of the few huge battles and decided your lag issue was secondary to a majority player style requesting more content...who knows, but seems to be the case.
Just be patient, I know everyone is spoiled with the "instant" society we live in, but Jesus...quit playing or shut up. |

Lol...after playing this game for all these years I have seen lots of these expansions come out and out of all of them how many started up on time?
Go on take a wild guess...5? 3? 1?...nope.
Not a single one ever has come out on time. So big surprise they are late again. They don't give a crap about any of you or being on time. They know they could take a month at it and even after all your whining and moaning you'd come right back and pay up and be playing like nothing ever happened. Hell some of you would even kiss their butts and thank them for it cuz that's what you love to do. So quit throwing your tantrums about them being late cuz you know as soon as the game comes up you'll forget all about this thread and how late they were. You know it's all true, you just don't wanna admit it...lol |

Yeah, they update the game for free and blah blah blah but really, when i pay for 30 days i want to get 30 days PLAYING time, not 28 days playing, 1 day sitting and waiting and another day lost due to daily server downtimes.
If this game wasn't so frikkin awesome, I'd vote with my feet.
Would you like them to credit you for the time that you're asleep while they're at it?
You're paying 14.99 a month for service. There are 744 hours in a 31-day month. Dividing out, that means you're paying roughly 2.0138 cents an hour to play EVE. If you can't spare about 40 cents to get new content, do everyone a favor and go AP through HED-GP in your pod a few times without updating your clone.
