Edited by: Quesa on 15/10/2010 00:34:11 Is there any technical reason these are different? The way I see it, they both tell your ship to fly towards an object.
It just makes little sense to split them up into two different shortcut buttons.
I had planned on using them to fix fleet lag but was talked out of it. -CCP Zulu |

Approach only shows under 150km however align shows for further distance and is used a lot when in belts.

And align only shows up at over 150 km. See how that works?
There's no point in having separate shortcuts for these commands. ...

I think the OP is confused. The 'align' button seamlessly changes to 'approach' when you close from 150km to 149km. I think both buttons are equally valid, and no change needs to be made.

You're the one that is confused, he's talking about keyboard shortcuts that are apparently different, while logically they should be the same for the exact reason you mention. (OP, fix your thread title to make this clear, so some dev might understand and see this please?)
Also, I haven't tested on SISI but read that align and warp default next to each other (A and S), this *will* get people killed, why not use A (approach *AND* align) and W (warp) (more logical as well?) (And swap S for orbit maybe)
And if it's true that CTRL- clicking also *unlocks* targets(devblog said "toggle" so it must be) it's probably one of the better CCP trolls ever, that should obviosly be changed as most people spam CTRL when acquiring targets, as well as misclick on already locked targets...
Then there's this hilarious bit that also supports something to be done to the approach key
Quote: I foresee a few accidents as pilots try to approach and lock a target at the same time (Ctrl+Q by default).
I cannot be arsed to make a new thread as I'm basically inactive and have not been to SISI. Somebody with less bittervet please make the attempt to get this **** to the devs (ofc it will make release anyway ) ---------- www.eve-arena.com

Was going to make a same thread.
Yes, after testing it in SISI I just cannot find a reason for Q and A to be two seperate buttons. Without hotkeys it used to be the same button on the target box, yes it changes the icon according to the range, but it's the same button! It's just so annoying to A-click something or Q-click something and expecting the ship to turn towards it but it doesn't work. This "distance difference" should be something that's handled by the ship AI automatically, by creating this stupid "split button thing" it's just a trap waiting for the right moment to go off for the pilot. Imagine you're podded and under stress "approached" a stargate or a planet. It's just unncessary and doesn't make sense. I suggest making the two buttons work for either scenario, or just turn them into one (either Q or A).
Also the CTRL thing - yes if you CTRL click the same target on the overview OR the target icon, it gets unlocked. I suggest making it so that when you are pressing CTRL the overview list will not update itself so you can't accidently click the wrong target (or is it already that way now)?

It's supposed to be like that but glitches quite a bit IIRC ---------- www.eve-arena.com

Yes, it's concerning the shortcuts, I thought it was pretty self evident when posting in the Test Server section BUT I DIGRESS!!
So yeah, it's basically inefficient to have two shortcuts for basically the same function.
I'll change the topic.
