Voted 10 times, felt good. Hoping a ton of the people I know get in this year, I know their passion for helping this game, loving this game and playing it.
But hey, I'd be lying if I didn't saying I've got some butterflies in my stomach after this went live today.
Amazing that after almost 10 years, this game can still inspire that sort of reaction in a bitter vet like me :)
Btw, I don't care how it happens but VOTE, get others to vote, even if it isn't for me. JUST get out there and vote, if people ask if you like the current CSM in a few months you should be able to reply "I voted for this guy and this guy, but NOT this guy and I don't like him"
It shouldn't be "well I'm angry at what they are doing!' and if asked if you voted you say "well NO, but I still want to complain!"
Use this argument on those that don't think voting matters, it does, and it will.

Yeah. Malcanis comes across as someone from the nullsec block. "Entitlement" is a euphemism for "I hate the way you play and it makes me cry like a baby". If you fantasize about being immoral it means you enjoy being immoral deep down. |

Now that CCP officially stopped, scrapped and buried even conceptual work on more WiS content, I was looking for a candidate with a pro-WiS stance. But there isn't a single one. Everyone of them said that the current "balancing" between spaceships and Incarna content, i.e. 100% spaceships and 0% WiS, is either "about right" or that there should be even more focus on spaceships (more than 100%, yeah?).
So I gave my votes to two candidates who at least don't seem to be completely opposed to having some WiS development around:

Will admit, so far this years elections have been rather tame.
Mind you I think CCP has underestimated the number of bloc candidates to normal people.
And while no vote is wasted, a lot of wasted votes from last year, were to set up a mandate so not really wasted anyway, as they were a deliberate show of strength. It's purpose is to give the players a seat at the table, not to run the game or direct development. But having our elected representatives (however many gripes you have about the voting system, voices are being heard!) with direct access to the Dev team is something that is unique. And you ought to try and make your voice part of that input. IMO, of course. Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Depends on what the vote is for, whether it achieves quorum and the contentedness of the 80% in terms of anti-vote action.
In the university that I studied in the quorum for the Student's Association was only 150, despite their being about ten thousand people on campus and about as much in distance learning and satellite courses. Despite this the wide body were quite happy about voting that occured, despite there only being about 500 max at one AGM - which was only because Our entire bloc turned up to vote against the senior positions of student councils getting salary increases. |

Would you want the CSM to have that much power?
The CSM is what it is. It's not omnipotent, but there's a middle ground between omnipotence and total irrelevence. No other game company engages with the player base at nearly such an involved level. What does "Wal-Mart Special" even mean in this context? It sounds like the kind catch-phrase "criticism" that sounds good but doesn't actually have any relation to the subject. Please do define it for us.

I don't agree with Malcanis on some things. On others, I feel he's right on. He's right on here.
The fact of the matter is, apathy like this precludes a CSM doing what a CSM needs to do. When the players put their wallets behind the CSM (See CSM 6), CCP will listen. For that to happen, the CSM needs to be united and active. Artctura for CSM 2013 |

Quoted for Truth.

Can we sell our vote? You might actually try reading the CSM notes at some point. Lots of big words though, sorry. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

CCP does take the CSM's opinions and advice into account. That doesn't mean that the CSM's direction is always followed, but they do at least listen. I'm sure that past CSM members would vouch for that.
If CCP didn't find the CSM to have some real benefit to Eve then they wouldn't be spending the time and money doing all of this. It's expensive in terms of man hours and additional spending. CCP Sreegs is my favorite developer. |

Thing is it's window dressing.
Other games don't need a layer of fake government like this. They just vote with their wallets. WoW lost 1.7mil players over Cata, Blizzard cut over 600 jobs...yeah, they listened.

One of those is active on the forums, one of them writes a well thought out blog about the game and the other two are Goons with what reads like good platforms. And I voted the same on all 4 my active accounts.

Back in the late 90s (imagine the graphical browser didn't even come out until 1996) it was Notepad coding of websites and HTML 3.2. Web pages were optimized for 20KB loads (because that's as long a visitor would wait for it downloading on a 14.4/28.8 modem). I still have the habit of removing all the fluff from pages, as I can't stand 600kb bloated page loads.
Glad tables are gone from presentation code...not returning to that mess again, too!
I wish W3C and the rest would make up their mind with coding standards. HTML 4>XHTML>XML to HTML 5 is the pits. Imagine if all the C++ programmers were told to dump it for only C#. -_- "In a world of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." ~George Orwell

People don't vote for candidates that would spit in your eye, and then ask you for a vote. They vote and/or canvass to have the bum thrown out.
Especially candidates who claim to be neutral or "independent" but trying to butter the bread on both sides. A schemer trying to profit at anyone's expense. A bought and paid for special interest candidate.

While I understand your stance, for those of us who do not feel invested in the process it is irrelevant we already know that bloc voting is a reality.
The new system actively rewards the bloc vote. Therefore the only protest available is non involvement. If there was a system to recognise the discontent with the process then it would be a non issue. |

I do sympathise I was considering the same route myself, in protest to the STV voting system and the brown nose 5.
But on looking into it all I realized was that doing nothing is benefiting the Null sec alliances,
If you really want to protest about the new voting system it is rather simple, either vote to change the outcome, or vote for only one candidate who you already know will get voted in. As the STV was put in place to prevent wasted votes, so if there are enough wasted votes they might actually pay attention. Vote Now! You are the one that is whining about me not going to vote so you might as well give me an incentive to vote on your behalf. I'll even vote for your number one candidate. :-)
As for wormholes, I agree with CCP Soundwave that wormholes are a little too easy to defend once you get caps in so anything that can up that landscape would be welcome imo.

Do vote I find if none of the candidates reflect my views adequately, the best thing to do is apply the same process as I do in RL - vote for the best out of a bad bunch.
I reckon you should read the platforms and take into consideration that not voting may mean that the candidates you thoroughly dislike get ahead over the candidates you only mildly dislike.

GÇ£So,GÇ¥ said Arthur, hoping he wasnGÇÖt sounding ridiculously obtuse, GÇ£why donGÇÖt the people get rid of the lizards?GÇ¥
GÇ£It honestly doesnGÇÖt occur to them,GÇ¥ said Ford. GÇ£TheyGÇÖve all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government theyGÇÖve voted in more or less approximates to the government they want.GÇ¥
GÇ£You mean they actually vote for the lizards?GÇ¥
GÇ£Oh yes,GÇ¥ said Ford with a shrug, GÇ£of course.GÇ¥
GÇ£But,GÇ¥ said Arthur, going for the big one again, GÇ£why?GÇ¥
GÇ£Because if they didnGÇÖt vote for a lizard,GÇ¥ said Ford, GÇ£the wrong lizard might get in.GÇ¥ Except people have now gotten so bad in this world, that now they believe that if they don't vote at all, that they are not responsible for the wrong lizard getting in.
This has got to be one of the worst ideas ever thought up by the human race.
If you do not vote, you are just as much to blame as those that voted for the wrong lizard. Any argument against that is purely just people trying to dodge the responsibility of actually making a decision.
So far I have not seen anyone who I recognize to be from Null sec, failing to make a decision, only 1 person from Wormholes but where to the majority seem to come from? Hi-sec. Which then begs the question, are Hi-sec people risk adverse, or incapable of making decisions. They complain when Hi-sec is nerfed at all, but they are to lazy to spend a few minutes every year voting.
The fact that people would put forward the argument that, they have refused to help guide the destiny of this game, so therefore they have the right to complain about the result, is just insane. They have chosen to opt out of this process by not voting, and frankly I see no reason to let them opt in when, those who will represent those who vote is chosen.
CCP Xhagen wrote: Problem two: representation on the CSM. CCP Veritas pointed out the error in my thinking, what I want is not actually fair representation of ALL EVE players, but of THOSE WHO VOTE (it follows from there that the more people that vote, the better representation we get). The current voting system is sufficient, but there are many vastly better systems out there.
So even CCP Xhagen believes that failure to vote, means no voice. So Vote or STFU for the next 12 months.
We really need a forum tag, that says "I Voted", just so we know who to tell to bugger of with their whining. Short form:
The CSM are an advocacy group, and a sounding board for CCP to run ideas past. They can't /tell/ CCP to do anything.
CCP come up with ideas, and run them past the CSM, who get to say if they think the idea is good or bad, or just needs tweaking. They can come up with ideas themselves, and tell CCP, but that's not exactly their primary function.
CCP can freely ignore the CSM, of course. They're only /one/ of the stakeholders in the process.

Apart from being a conduit / sounding board for CCP of player sentiment / good designs / etc. they also provide a means for player supported ideas to reach CCP. You can, for example, raise a topic on the appropriate forum section, have it supported and force the CSM to look at it. If they vote for it it is passed on to CCP for consideration.

GÇ£I did,GÇ¥ said Ford. GÇ£It is.GÇ¥
If you voted and lost so be it, at least you stood up and said "Count me in as part of the Community", rather than hid in a hole at election time only to stick your head out afterwards and complain that it is too bright.
Or you don't vote as an active rebuff against the CSM or the need for it. I haven't voted or will vote partly down to the fact I don't see the need for the CSM or it's validity. God Said "Come Forth and receive eternal life!" I came fifth and won a toaster. |

Really? Is it that hard to figure out? It's Valid because the owners of the game decreed it to be. They decreed it in reaction to the players raising their voces and making their anger and disgust well known. Now you have a venue by which you can (by proxy) have a seat at the table. Or turn your back on the CSM, and choose to be entirely voiceless - your lack of vote hurts CCP not at all. You'd be more efffective if you held your breath until you get everything you want.
CSM: It's not everything it might be, but which other game company is giving you even that much, eh?
Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Did they? from what I remember as usual with this game that is was a very vocal minority of players as it usually is. The chiefs whip the plebs into a forum frenzy usually when there is something that usually either
a: stops their income b: stops them curbstomping a smaller alliance. God Said "Come Forth and receive eternal life!" I came fifth and won a toaster. |

So you've agreed that big alliances use the CSM for not what it's intended for (whatever that was, keeping the chattering classes happy after t20) but to intimidate and twist the game to their own benefit and you now want me to vote for this.....

I can think of plenty of "movements" the world could do without. As to how it was intended to be used, frankly I have no idea, there have always been so many non-voters and people who are not interested in the game around them, that the CSM has never been representative of EvE.
Now is it the fault of these null sec groups that people want to give them control of the CSM?
As to movements, all voices are needed in this world, no matter how strange. Vote Now! My recommendations are:-á 1.James Arget 2.Ayeson 3.Nathan Jameson 4.Cipreh 5.Chitsa Jason 6. Malcanis 7.
