I do quite fancy another format myself aswell, although the last one was amusing enough.
How about 5v5 frigate matches, last man standing wins? 5v5 Cruiser? 10v10? The thing that makes this more interesting, imho, is the focus will be less on tanking. We all saw what happened last tournament - long standoffs because teams failed to break the BS and/or BC tanks. Frigates cant tank, so surviving comes down to teamwork and skill.
Slight bias ofcourse since i prefer flying frigates myself.

Originally by: Kunming Hope its a "last man standing" a la Tournament #1, second one was not as exciting as the first 1, maybe it was also cause there were too many ships involved.. Oh I wanna see matches like the UK vs MC, Kaos vs BoB, where the last module fitted on the ship counted and it wasnt over till it was over
Last man standing you say? Team Battle Royale?
Imagine a single match, 50 or so team of 3-5 people, dedicated node, almost no lag(???) due to the dedicated node, and just one massive free-for-all with the last alliance/corp standing declared the winner, and that team gets the prizes. It wouldn't be nearly as time consuming as dozens of 5v5 fights, and there'd be so much action it'd be unbelievable.
Ofcourse, you'd be looking at several hundred ships fighting, so it'd be a nightmare to police, unless CCP puts up a dyson's sphere of some sort around a select grid and pods anyone who warps out unless it's a CTD.

Originally by: Trevedian Kimono Directive etc. and other carebear alliances have made posts about how the PVP Alliance Tournament only caters to fighters etc., but none of the people complaining ever took part in the PVP Alliance tourney...
I resent your bogus comment about KD.
I posted that they should open it to corporations and not just alliances(because there were alot of people in coprs that were interested, but couldn't join because they weren't part of an alliance). Had I known the higher ups didn't sign us up, I would have when I got back from vacation. Doesn't matter though, because it's in the past, and we're going to be at this one regardless.
Ofcourse there were other people posting how limiting mods but not implants was stupid (but even people who took part would agree) since if you field a team with crystals, that's a major buff, and that's really the only problem I had with the last tournament's rules, well that and they kept extending fights. They should simply go by a set time limit. If you cannot break your enemy by then, you get a draw and not a win.
This tourny needs some changes though. A unique prize is far better than something generic. Besides, what will CPC do if some empire-based group wins? Tell them they have to go to 0.0 to pickup their capital ships? They can't have them in highsec for obvious reasons, even though that might be where they work.
Besides, I can't imagine BoB wanting that 2nd wyvern more than they'd have liked a few unique ships. State Issued Raven with 8 lanchers? Maybe a Navy Issue Scorpion or Moa?
Hell, Capships are common. Give them a Navy-Issued Phoenix as the 'big' prize?
Or a CONCORD ship.

More ideas for format, i know some were brought up at earlier tournaments but im going to say it anyway.
1) More then 2 teams fighting at a time. Maybe 5-6, with a drawing that isnt released untill the people are /TRed to the actual battlefield, to avoid teams teaming up. Free for all, last man standing.
2) Slightly larger team matches, say 10-15 a team, fighting in a system. So, not just the old single grid fights, but fights spread out over a system. Would have to be a slightly modified system (smaller then usual), and no safespots allowed. Team with most kills wins? A capture the flag type of idea would work too, where points are awarded for being at a specific place x minutes.
3) Staying with the old format, but different teams. For example, instead of 1 of each shiptype, allow more smaller ships. I mean, in any serious combat situation, would you go with one of each shiptype? No, you'd go with a battleship, 1-2 BCs, a few cruisers and several frigates. You could allow teams to make their own format. Give each shiptype a number of points, and allow team a number of points to be used on ships. Needs a max number of pilots though, to stop people just bringing 20 snake implanted interceptors, killing the other sides frigate and then running off.
I understand some of these might be too hard to organise though, or limited in some other fashion. However you could consider doing them as 'side events'? Main event being the same concept as last time, but have a side event with just the frigate pilot from each team in a free-for-all match for example? Id like to see 50 frigates going at it.

My biggest pet peeve with the current tournament is the lack of tackling.
IMO: Allow warping around - even if it is only between 2 or 3 predefined beacons. Make people use tackling in some form - a real use for interceptors and interdictors - not just cannon fodder. --

1) MAKE THE ARENA SMALLER (50KM Radius or so) Alot of teams backpedaled away from fights the entire time...
2) MAKE THE BOUNDARIES OF THE ARENA VISIBLE

With the warping around thing we have experimented with a capture the flag format. It's been a while because of silly wardecs but I remember we have some things to iron out. It has potential though.
Whatever format the event will be in we plan to enter :)

Usually, interest to participate in events isfunction of four parameters: Is it affordable ? Is it fun ? Is it fair ? Are the prizes worth ?
Banning faction ships and limiting gear to T1/T2 would enhance affordability, since it would allow even the smallest alliance to compete. If the goal of the event is to draw attention, more teams = more fans/viewers.
Fun could be achieved by banning any kind of mod which prevents a ship to either inflict or absorb damage: remote dampers and ECM. Implants should be allowed and podding authorized. If we allow podding, then players getting into the tournament with their HG sets will take a real risk. Also, some method should be designed in order to prevent ships to be able to tank damage during a whole match duration. A fixed limit per team on the amount of booster charges expressed in total cap value could do the trick, since ships cargo's could be scanned by the referees prior to the match. If it becomes clear from the start that you won't be able to repeat ASCN's tanking strategy no matter how you setup your ship and what are your skills with or without implants, your attitude will switch from defensive to aggressive. And I guess that's what most players want to see: all-out fights.
Fairness can only be achieved by carefully establishing a set of rules, and then later on STICKING to said rules no matter what happens during the tournament.
Since it is a PvP tournament, it makes sense to hand-out prizes able to fulfill winner's enjoyment on a personal level. Therefore instead of handing out extremely expensive goodies, simply give out more prizes to more people, but of lesser value: faction frigs, cruisers and BS's.

I still say a special client to allow us to watch the Tourny would be a great thing. I for one, would be happy to pay a little extra to be able to see the tournament in the way I choose, rather than at a low resolution and only able to look at what the (admitedly good) camera operators decide to. I'd even settle for a way to replay them after the fact.
Yeah, I know that it's been said before: "no way". I'm just interested in who else things this would be a great idea? Perhaps if there's enough support....

My suggestion to make the fights more balanced and hopefully spice it up abit more is for the teams to use the entry fee to purchase all ships and mods and ammo from a Dev shop with fixed prices, this way the teams can fit out with any mixture/type of ships but will need to remember they have to make the budget last to buy any replacement ships for future matches;
Example - Entry Fee/Budget - 1 Billion Isk
Fight 1 - The team fits out 3 BS and 2 cruisers - Total 320mill they lose the fight and all ships. Fight 2 - The team have to refit with a remanining budget of only 680mill
As you can see after a few fights there budgets will be stretched and we will see more unique set-ups and tactics in the battles

Keep implants - allow podding (or even make it mandatory, i.e. a real fight to the finnish). why let people have a multi billion isk advantage with no risk? Best idea i have heard so far. Will also allow use of smartbombs for rep-drone removal. They somewhat slowed down the last tournament. The frigs and destroyers would perhaps survive longer if the webbers and painters were banned like other ew (tournament nerfing minty recons in the process). I think it would be fairer to ban all ew or none at all.

Riiiiight... cuz ppl are really gonna blow several multibillion implant sets for a trophyship they'll lose by showing off in combat.
I think not.
Podding would effectively gimp the tourney, cause ppl would either do everything they could to prevent damage at the cost of sheer dps and thereby exciting fights, or not bring the implants at all, which would achieve the same effect. Maybe what you want is a paper airplane race? All same size, shape, weight, and materials? Nice and levelled to help the little guy's ego.
Personally I liked watching the tourney to see what was possible. How inventive people could get. The closeness of some of the matches made it exciting, and had me yelling at the screen more than once. Sure, the last match blew, and the inty fight was a joke, but still, the semi finals were breathtaking. And hey, the single best match imho was the gigglefest with the snowballs and the shuttles. I literally fell off my chair laughing at that. GREAT match!

On the last tournament, a DVD was announced to the Eve community, and today, after 3 months, it's yet to be seen.
Will the upcoming tournament have a real dvd, or just broken promises?

I want to know this too. Our alliance wants to compete, but we are small and are having trouble finding members that can play Friday mornings. We have plenty for Saturdays and Sundays at any time, but Friday most of us are in school or working.
So if the battles are indeed being held on Fridays, would it be possible for the smaller alliances to maybe request we be scheduled for Saturday/Sunday instead?

I'm afraid the pairings are completely random, and we will not be taking any special requests for timings. The tournament be held between roughly the same hours as last time. Starting around 2-3pm and ending between 9 and 11pm.

EveTV Flyer There is the flyer that pops up real quick when you try to view the tournament rules pdf...
I thought I was going crazy cause I saw it 1 time and never saw it again. So I searched my browser history and could not find the flyer. Eventually i realized it only comes up when the pdf is loading on eve files. So there is the link to the flyer if you want it
