Firstly; awesome CAD.
Secondly; this *has* to be implemented. As someone who just wants to build a small research station for RP reasons I am massively turned off by the fact that POS's look like a pile of toss.
You always see those small little stations in deadspace that look so cute and really give the impression of the home of a faction rather than a motley assortment of floating boxes.

I love the idea. However it might be more sensible to implement this as a new type of pos instead of a complete remake of the current pos system. Maybe this could even have normal shields instead of a force bubble, and a market module allowing people trading that you dont want to being able to dock.

Hmmm I'm not sure I'm for this.
Personally I think the best fix for POSs is eliminating most of the fuel requirements to put the fun back into it. I don't know how many have spent hours fueling but lets say its unexciting.
I have no idea why in EVE we don't use Solar Power to power our POSs.....(or at least use a better fission/fusion reactor that doesn't require fueling so often).

This isn't a fix for POS or anything to do with the mechanics or fuel really. Just a cosmetic change

While the complaint that guns would be inside the shield again; why couldn't one have a small 'remote' hub to attach several turrets to on the outside of the shield?

I like this idea so much more than the current pos structure, but will the shield still be there in your design? If so how do you avoid having an almost invinceable POS when you have to take down the shields before taking out the guns? Or if the POS doesn't have a shield then how will ones ship be protected when at the pos?

Edited by: Inanna Zuni on 30/05/2008 21:40:30 There is an inherent logic to the way the POS produced is built up from units, and a beauty too. The current 'bits and pieces floating in space' has none. Given that ambulation will arrive soon (tm) this proposal would also seem to wrap up that requirement too (rather than needing some little jump scooter to get between floating bits).
I like it and will happily query the Devs on how something like this could be implemented (either as a replacement - and it wouldn't be the first time the design of something has changed overnight, just look at the design of some ships in the patch coming up!) or as an addition.

Signed Thats what poses allways should have been like.
I also think these shouldnt have pos shield bubble like we've seen them till now, but a normal shield covering all the structures beside guns and leave the pos bubble to the current large towers. Theres too many hidingplaces at small and medium towers all over EVE. All industrial and research poses should be built up as suggested in this thread. The large towers could be kept as "deathstars" and fuel bay and requirement should be increased.

Definitely. I remember reading the OP linked post when it first appeared and thought then that is what POS should look like - especially as the "npcPOS" you find in missions and the like are effectively already done like that, they're usually all linked up with walls!

I endorse this proposal. Let there be proper structures. It could even be a great support for Ambulation, which is supposed to give us ability to walk through space stations. Might as well give us the opportunity to scramble for your ships as your POS gets attacked or walk over to a factory process control center to set a new manufacturing job, or the likes. :) |

This is the best idea I have seen to deal with POS's. As to the people that say we don't need a complete re-work of the POS system they are wrong. That is the classic CCP mistake. They want to fix something 20 different times and it never works. Stop trying to fix something and make it fit where it does not. Start over and say how can we make this the best possible and easy to use. That is the cheif problem with POS's the are way to overly complicated.
Learn from your failures don't keep repeating them!

While I love the design there is several points that would concern me regarding implementation.
1.) Transition between the current POS system and the moduler format proposed. The last thing we would want is CCP to say... "ok those old POS mods are now scrapped and useless. To those people/alliances who have spend billions on the POS infrastructure...tough"
2.) POS protection of friendly fleets while still allowing non-protection of aggressive POS moduals (possibly already discussed)
3.) POS assembly interface.

I think that, if implemented intelligently, this could be mitigated somewhat. Most of the idea presented revolves around changing the visual representation of the PoS and its components.
After an update which changed this feature of the station, I believe that existing PoS modules and components would simply remain in space where they are, fully functional within the standards of current PoS mechanics.
PoS managers could then re-assign locations for those modules using the new placement interface which snaps the pieces together, which doesn't put the PoS very much at risk, doesn't cause the players to lose assets, and doesn't force the managers to rush around reassigning PoS positions.

I definitely support. I saw my first POS a couple weeks ago, I thought I was looking at some type of debris field until I actually clicked on the big thing in the middle and it said Caldari Control Tower.
However, I also think it might be best to implement this as a supplement to the current system rather than forcing such a major change all of a sudden. For example CCP might stop seeding the blueprints for the old style and introduce the new style with distinct benefits to promote a voluntary and gradual change, or as has already been suggested here and in the original thread make this design of POS cheaper with defensive drawbacks and leave them both in existence.
I have been in other MMOs when they made sudden massive changes to major game systems and it never goes well(an especially bad case was Star Wars galaxies shortly before the releases of their first two expansions).

I did the same thing, I read it four times... just to make sure.
I am growing extremely disappointed here. I think what CSM was really doing, what some may call it, a political horse trading, paying attention to the "pet projects" and ignoring a general and unilateral call for action on this issue.
This is an absolute disgrace, and should be taken in the account when the next so-called elections come to pass.
Absolute disgrace! And all those people who support and bleed everyday due to the outlined POS issues should voice their opinion - and call CSM "horse trading" out.

Some quotes by CSM members regarding this:
Originally by: LaVista Vista Wanna hear what i think?
The purpose of the CSM is to present the views of the public. Its very obvious that the thread is extremely popular(I think its quite sound too), so of course, if i get in, i will do my best to hear CCP on the suggestion and try and push it forward.
Really, please tell me, what happened - did horse trading got in the way?
Originally by: Ankhesentapemkah CSM candidate reporting in.
Player-owned stations are enormously important to Eve, and the current system is not very sound.
POS'es the one thing that makes Eve a truly persistant-world environment, it's something the players create and destroy, and have a huge impact in the world.
The reason why the thread is so popular, is because it contains a good, sound idea, and explains and illustrates it well. It looks like something that came straight out of a game design document, and this thread is an example how ideas should be forwarded. I'm quite disappointed that the devs were so late in making an actual reply to the thread (even though they claim to have read it earlier). Ideas like this should be encouraged, especially when presented in such a format, even if they are not possible to immediately implement them in the game.
I'm not just going to bring up this idea to the developers, I want to review and bring up every other idea that is as well worked-out as this one in the future, and make sure that it doesn't take a YEAR to get some feedback next time!
Where are you dear friend? Where is this on the CCP - CSM Meeting Minutes?
Originally by: Serenity Steele CSM has raised this issue to CCP now. Please keep discussing, although voting is no longer necessary to bring it to CCP.

How many of the CSM representatives run even one POS? I think none, veteran players and leaders shun POS management and often paw off the running of them on more singleminded individuals who can handle the mental abuse that it is maintaining and even looking at Pieces Of Shit.
This could explain why the POS issue was largely forgotten at the meet.

Support your dead horse!
CSM, would be nice to hear from you people, what happened when this issue was "brought to CCP" - was it even?
I mean, Skill Queue? EVE has been OK w/o it for many years now, and seems we been doing fine, and it is NOT as urgent as functionality of the POS.
Aggression Timers, Sale Order by standing, Empire Wars? Suicide ganking? WTF? 3 Days CSM had to bring this issue to the table! All the issue listed although important are not life-sucking doldrums of what POS system really is! All are much more controversial than the POS issue, all are "niche" issues, that have various responses.
Yet, the only idea that would alleviate the blight that is POS management at the moment, the issue that has UNIVERSAL support - did not make it to the table, even though we were ASSURED BY CSM that it will be?
What happened?

Shame on CSM and CCP for not at least even mentioning it in the meeting topics!

LaVista Vista, Ankhesentapemkah, Serenity Steele,
Where are you guys?! Did your internet broke? What happened to bringing this idea to CCP? You should be ashamed of yourself, but then again, you got a free trip to Iceland and all that, who cares about your word, or promises, right...
I am laughing now, I was really upset before, and I am laughing at myself now, because I thought that damn CSM might actually do something good. I guess what you say CSM and what you do CSM are two different thing, my mistake, regretfully.
I suppose that all the others should remember this come next election.

Edited by: Jinx Barker on 15/07/2008 14:55:37 Ladies and Gents, how about you all look here: Upcoming CSM Meeting - and notice a part about "Biggest Unadressed Assembly Hall Issue"
I would think we qualify, don't you?
So far CSM members issued no statement regarding misinformation they had given us. Members of the CSM had shown support for implementing this PAIN IN THE ASS IGNORED BY CCP FOR OVER 2 YEARS idea that has UNILATERAL support - as I see it, and yet they have failed to either answer the questions as to why lie to us, and tell us it has been submitted to CCP, or if it WAS submitted, why it is missing from CCP-CSM Meeting notes.
I suggest you all take a walk there and let them know what you think, that is, unless we are so apathetic at this point and do not really care if we are blatantly lied to or led on, and then ignored in favor of pet projects.
I will continue quoting them, their own words regarding this, till we hear something:
Originally by: CSM Mebers
Originally by: LaVista Vista Wanna hear what i think?
The purpose of the CSM is to present the views of the public. Its very obvious that the thread is extremely popular(I think its quite sound too), so of course, if i get in, i will do my best to hear CCP on the suggestion and try and push it forward.
Originally by: Serenity Steele CSM has raised this issue to CCP now. Please keep discussing, although voting is no longer necessary to bring it to CCP.

Bottom line its not a conspiracy. Its just a mess up somewhere along the line and I'm honestly not sure where. This issue got voted through the CSM and as far as I know was submitted to CCP for the formal meeting in Iceland yet didn't appear on the agenda there. At the time we resolved to just make sure it gets resubmitted for the 2nd formal meeting. Its already been voted on, its going on the agenda for 2nd meeting. Not sure what else I can say about it.
I have no idea who messed up. Or how it happened. But for whatever reason it didn't get on the formal agenda in Iceland and that meant there was no substantive CCP comment in the face to face discussions - hence why its not listed on the minutes feedback.
Thank you Jade - I am sure we will be awaiting some information forthcoming in August. The reason for all the shouting is perception that the issue was ignored despite the statements to the contrary by CSM. Mistakes happen, especially when so many different issues are involved....
Again, I appreciate you actually coming in here and letting everyone know.

Oh at least some news. Let's hope this makes it to CCPs attention next time.

I wouldn't assign intent to the situation. More of, "out of sight, out of mind" type thing. We should hear something in August, after the next CCP-CSM round table.

Well according to the CSM members that commented this issue, it was submitted to CCP to be discussed during the f2f meeting in Iceland, but did not show up on the agenda.

You have not heard from them at all? Or have you heard on some issues and not on others?
If you have not heard from them at all, it is not a big deal, since I would give them a while to go through the list and do their stuff - however - if you have heard something on other issues, and nothing on this, well, then I be starting a riot soon, with pitch forks, and tar, and feathers.

11th is when we last heard from CSM, today is 16th. So, it has been five days. They have heard something from CCP, and LaVista is verifying it with them (CCP), to make sure that there are no NDA issues.
I figured, I will give it till Friday the 19th to hear what is up - 8 days, at that point, is more than enough to get the information sorted.

This is Day 9, since you guys heard something from CCP, 9 Days is more than enough to pass along the information.... or are we screwing around again, and the issues miraculously "slipped through the cracks, again."

Ok guys this has been going for such a long time? I mean come the hell on! Current CSM is almost done with their terms and all bunch of idiotic things were discussed and talked with CCP, including - MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS? WTFBBQ?
And this issue, having had an overwhelming support for over 2 (TWO) YEARS now still getting shafted on regular basis by CCP? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? Am I the only one even remotely upset by this bull-shit?
I suggest all those who have waited, voted, supported, and been patient come here and start letting some people know this is no way to do business.
I mean, come the hell on! CCP AND CSM - Lets hear what has been going on with this!
I might want to add this:
Those of you who are going to fanfest, please bring this issue up with the current Developer team, it seem that this particular thing has been a big ugly white elephant in the room that everyone at CCP has been working hard to ignore.
They would respond to the stupidest thing on this forums, and they have only said something to us about the issue in the original thread on pager 13... and well over a year ago!

Well, the current CSM isn't done before November. So there's no problem in terms of time. We still have 2 meetings to be had, so we will get you an answer.
Right now, I can't do much other than lobbying for this "issue" we are seeing atm, to be resolved. But the bottleneck is with CCP at present.

And, CSM, seems that LvV is the only one who actually keeps us updated... where the hell are you? Come out and tell us why in the world you have not pushed this with CCP hard enough?
I mean, come on, other issues made, and were heard about and this thing has ben just hanging here.

I'll give you an update:
We submitted the issue to CCP. CCP responded with an answer to the CSM. We will be discussing that answer with them next weekend 15:00. The initial answer + additional notes from the live discussion will be released the following week pending CCP approval.
Of course I'm not running again in the next election :)
But seriously its nobodies fault in the current CSM that this has taken a long time. We did get a provisional answer - we didn't like it that much, we're going to be asking questions - you'll get the skinny when we've had the discussion with CCP next weekend.
Sorry to be blunt but there it is.

Next Weekend? When? The 11th and 12th? or the 18th and 19th? That way I will be here shortly after to hear my answers.
Because, from what you have said, CCP does not appear to be too "enthused" about doing this... unless I have misinterpreted what you have written, which I think I have not.
In any event, whatever the news, keep us updated, we can start a threadnought later - worked for goons didn't it?

On the 11th we will be having the (hopefully) last CSM-CCP meeting for this round. We have issues which weren't discussed inside our window of oppertunity with CCP last weekend, so it will be next weekend.
To be fair against CCP, the last month or two has been the conference season(I for one spent a weekend far away from home, due to my attendance in one of the said conferences). CCP Obviously sent their employees there. This means that people like Noah(CCP Hammer) weren't available during the weekends after the initial response. Thus, it had to be post-poned till these 2 weekends.
Prior to the meeting we had Saturday, we had some very interesting discussions(And lots of absurd jokes) on how to thrust forward CSM and take it to the next level. Dr. EyjoG, Greyscale and Hammer(head) especially seemed very enthusiastic about CSM, which was really nice.
So I would certainly not give up hope. The wait is over very soon hopefully. Sadly, when coordinating these kinds of things, not only with 7+ CSM members, but also a large company like CCP, it's bound to be a slow process. But that's just the way it is.

It wasn't discussed directly due to CCP's initial response. However, it WAS refered to quite a few times in discussion about other mechanics.

You need to lay it all out for us, there has been to many half-words, and double takes with regards to POS/Dead Horse/CCP/CSM - this is the only issue I have seen thus far THOROUGHLY ignored or AVOIDED BY CCP.

This. Its crap like this that is breaking the bubble known as player democracy. And CCP, i know that the CSM where never supposed to have any power over game design and it's purpose are only to present the opinions of the player base. But what happened to the open dialog that you advertised as ground breaking steps towards an virtual democracy. All i see is a CSM that has it's hands tied behind its back, being forced to refer to the dead horse in related discussions as it apparently was not allowed to be discused directly.

You mis-understand. It's simply too-hard-basket technically for CCP to re-write and re-generate art work to make it happen.
So we refered to it in other proposals such as small anchorable structures - where there is no existing art-work, so that at least removes one barrier.

You are completely overreacting here.

As it has been stated tons of times before, the initial response from CCP plus whatever extra there is to add from our meetings, will be posted together in the official minutes.
Also, it's baseless claims that it has been ignored and avoided by CCP. CCP gave us an answer, and there's nothing to discuss.
However, as Serenity said, CCP was interested in the actual suggestion and there was talk about the actual thing in regards to small anchorable structures. So we might see it being put in there.

There was open dialogue.
We were fully allowed to discuss it directly. But obviously there was no reason for it, due to the actual response. CCP is well aware that this is on the top of our wishlist, but we can't tie CCP's hands behind it's back and force them to do it either.
I'm sorry we couldn't do more than this. Sadly, I think it's a matter of bad expectations.

I am sorry, you mean just because the guys who made you sign NDA and paid for the trip to Iceland said "no" or something along those lines, there is NOTHING TO DISCUSS? I think something lost in translation here man, because there is plenty to discuss! That is the whole point of CSM to bring PRESSURE ON CCP ON BEHALF OF THE COMMUNITY - no?

You see what I have highlighted there? Well, the response has been received month or more ago, the discussion took place, and yet, you guys chose not to publish it why?
Furthermore, there has been way too much "half-talk" from CSM about it, you clearly guys have bad news to give to EVE community from CCP, and yet, there was clear avoidance, or appearance of avoidance on CSM and CCP's part when it comes to this issue.
What I predict is that CCP simply gave you guys the same brush off as they did us a year ago, with "it is too much trouble to implement" and yet we have really proven them wrong in the original thread, and since then they simply ignored it.
In my opinion this was and is the issue that 99% of EVE community can get behind, and yet, we have "musical instruments" - does this not make you shudder? Does this not make you appalled? Does this not make you angry?
Basically what I have gathered from S.S and your responses is this: You spoke with CCP and CCP told you to screw off. And you guys were unable to come here and tell us outright so we can follow up with additional pressure on CCP.
For the first time in five years I am really upset at CCP, at their covert attempts at manipulation of their mistakes, and at continual subversion that they have exercised on many occasions. It is definitely not the same company that made EVE Online in 2003, and are not the same people.
By not making even an effort to come out and talk to the community regarding the "dead horse" issue, and by tying your CSM hands when it come to clear, concise, and truthful account about your communications with CCP it proves to me that pretty much all is lost.

Because we had to have the CCP-CSM discussions first, then create the minutes, have them approved by CCP and then have the community team post them. Anything else would be a breach of the NDA. We didn't chose not to publish it, that's stupid to say.
You are basically telling me that the CSM should not care about the NDA and ruin the integrity that CSM has, because you want feedback from CCP.
I'm sorry, but you are *not* being reasonable.
Quote: In my opinion this was and is the issue that 99% of EVE community can get behind, and yet, we have "musical instruments" - does this not make you shudder? Does this not make you appalled? Does this not make you angry?
Don't even get me started on the musical instruments in ambulation.
Seriously, I wish that they could just implement this. But hey, I'm not Hilmar.
But here's the deal:
Wait till the minutes are out like everybody else who raised an issue or had interest in some of them. The fact that you kept posting here and demanding an update gave you a bit, congratz. But you STILL have to wait for the minutes. Nobody on the CSM is going to break their NDA just because you want an update.
But thanks for proving to me that it was wrong of me to even give you an update on what was going on. I don't think that going to happen in the future like this, when people aren't being perfectly reasonable.
But let me once again point out I would LOVE to see this in game. And I'm pretty sure we will some day.

1) You do not see me being suspicious about the whole affair, and demanding answers as reasonable, especially since the "ball was dropped" once before, for whatever reason, and issue ignored, or sent too late or what not?
2) LaVista, you did not "give me an update" specifically, you did post for everyone that something has been received, and we should wait. If you read further, S.S. actually said in so many words that it was "useless since CCP gave definitive answer" - from which anyone with modi****if intelligence can glean where it leads, and what is going on. Then you came in and pretty much confirmed that "yea we could talk about i, but why, since CCP already told us .... "
The only reason I received replies from you guys is because I am a pushy bastard, and I pretty much called on CSM and CCP to provide answers continuously, for years with CCP, and for months with CSM, until someone said, lets shut him up, and throw him a bone. Just because I get a bone, does not make me happy, I want the whole steak, or in this case information, every bit of it.
No one wants to break the NDA, it is the question of why it has taken so bloody long in the first place to go to CCP, we know, we know, clerical error, and then why has it taken months to actually get any news at all... when, bring it up again, silly shit... gets pushed through?! The whole thing with the "dead horse," CCP, CSM and the way this been handled is purely Kafkaesque manner.
Anyway, as I said before, you did not respond to me, you responded to all of us, and do not feel bad for a second that when you did the right thing, you might have to feel slightly bad about it later - that is what happens, and what you did unlike so many other CSM was the right thing, even if I am shouting at you, and making you feel uncomfortable - I am shouting at CSM and CCP, it just so happens you are the guy who does the right thing and talks to the people, so you get the bayonet, you still get my vote later on kiddo. <<Click The Siggy For the Blog>>

If CCP is thinking of revamping the whole messy POS mechanic, an elegant and common sense solution like this should be at the top of their list for consideration. |

CCP said no to a lot of stuff that would require any real work. They should have expected some of the ideas brought forth by the players to require code and graphics rewrites. Maybe someone should start a petition about CCP unwilling to fix issues requiring more than 10 min of coding.
P.S. I have messed with software code before and i do know that for this to be implemented it would take months of writing, checking, rewriting, etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That might be true if they didn't allready have a way to connect the POS's allready. (I understand the modular would take time and they should do it because that is how it should have been done in the first place) Go do a mission or visit a complex they have control towers hooked up to all kinds of stuff. They need to have POS's connect one way or another.

I tend to specialize in mission running so yes I have seen structures set up like this. However they are not "connected" in the sense that they work together to accomplish a purpose. No matter what the coding would take time to do as each array would need to be reworked with connection points, shield/armor/structure hp would need adjusting as obviously the shield is no more, etc . . . ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You are missing the point, the connections don't have to do anything - nothing about the structure needs to change other than connecting the parts together. Part of the big problem is the fact that POS's look terrible. They magically transport things across from one thing to another, they need to be connected together. These connections don't need shield/armor/structure they don't need anything but a connection from one piece to another.
I would like them to make a modular POS but if they can't/won't then just make a way to connect the parts together.

And you dont pick up loot from 1.5 k like everyone else? As the current system works their is either a small shuttle / drone running back and fourth or the modules have an improved "beaming" system to be able to transfer items further. Not the point of the arguement here though. I sugest you read through the original forum post on this issue and you would see that the idea is alot more than simply connecting the modules together. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edited by: Hygelac on 03/11/2008 17:31:06 I loved this idea from the moment it was first suggested way back when. Only hurdle to this is the existing POSes out there but the 'leave it alone and let it change over time' thing could work I guess.
The biggest hurdle here is re-doing all of the models which is why CCP might balk at this change, but I'd like to see them fix some of these types of long standing issues rather than the continuous stream of new content.
The problem with this sort of thing is that it's a low return 'aesthetic' issue that works well enough, but not prettily, putting it at the bottom of every development queue known to man. Hopefully the CSM can really push this because a lot of people would LOVE to see it.

You really don't get it. I don't mind the mining part of my POS just kinda beaming ore from the moon like getting loot from a can but the rest? Lets talk apples to apples. My ships thrusters are connected to my cargo area which is connected to the bridge. The ship isn't flying about with each part just kind of next to each other part.

I have actually read every single post in that thread. Have you? And before we get into a fight, I said that the main idea is we don't like how POS's look they don't "feel" right having pieces floating about. The OP had an idea on how to fix that and had some other ideas. Other people have suggested other things. We want our stations connected, modular would be the best looking way to do it.

Edited by: Spoon Thumb on 25/11/2008 11:22:21 Well, it'd be nice if the new council perhaps put this slightly differently.
We know that at some point, POS models will get an upgrade, as CCP slowly work through remodelling everything (starting with ships and stations in trinity patch and moving onto gates in latest).
We also know that POS mechanics are bugged and sov mechanics are unsatisfactory to the vast majority of players
This suggestion or something similar could be woven into a wider, much needed revamp of POS. It's the wider fixes that take the effort, but need to be done anyway
Edit: T3 ships would basically be exactly the same idea just with ships rather than POS structures

POS and related game content are soooo unfinished it is a real pain at times. However I guess you are right, nothing but a complete revamp can help here...
Imagine CCP implements this, all folks have to rearagne their POSes (!) ... then they change SOV mechanics and people have to tinker with things again.
I mean I understand their hesitation to implement this. What I don't have an understanding for is the almost complete silence and ignorance. --- SIG --- CSM: your support is needed ! |

Whatever mechanic is being used to add Tech III could also be used to design POS like this.
Additionally (don't know if this was mentioned or not) - I'm assuming the POS guns present some issue, seeing as this design would mean they are now inside the shield.
The simplest solution would be to let people target guns and other offensive modules that are inside the shield, and use the explanation that they have some kind of trans-warp hyper-shield-inverse technology that lets them target while in the shield, but allows them to be targetted as well. ---- Logins required for this post: 963976 Modicus Dementis is recruiting, join the channel Internet Cafe |

I kind of gave up even looking here, even since CCP said it was "too much work" for them to do proper POS overhaul. Felt like so many years supporting this issue went to waste, because no one in CCP listens.
Well, I feel slightly vindicated, because I am certain that should CCP have listened to all of us who support general POS overhaul they would have found the long running exploit and fixed it.
So, I decided I am coming back to the hopeless cause of supporting the POS overhaul. Perhaps we should all stop by a nearest church and put up a candle for Saint Jude - the patron saint of hopeless causes. Maybe then CCP will listen, who knows.

Kind of a fan of the current system..minus the asthetics of course..
i like this new pos idea...maybe some sort of t2 / next generation pos...used purely for foward deployment of operations.
dont like the anchor it at gate thing....but i think it should the follwing things should be noted:
.: Thes pops should not be able to claim sov .: These pos's should be anchorable ANYWHERE is system..but not near gates. .: These pos's should be detectable by probe and ship scanner .: U should be able to get an exact location on these pos's with probes .: Limits to how many can be deployed in a single system .: Limited weaponry (maybe a fighter bay...that pos gunners can drop fighters/ drones and control them...+ small stationary guns) .: Area of effect cyno jamming ability would be a nice feature (cant drop cyno within 1 au of it ?????...maybe) .: Should NOT be able to mine moons
it needs to be balanced...but as a foward deployment platform...this idea is sexy as hell

This belongs on page one, and someone from the CSM needs to take it back to CCP, it wasn't really even talked about last time, it was kind of mentioned, then it was the funky pos idea, bring the subject up, straight forward, push the idea, make it a major topic not a minor one, and maybe CCP will rethink there position on this.
If it at least looks like the CSM had tried to work it in last time I would just leave it alone with CCP's last answer, but as it is, those guys pretty much avoided it, with "no reason to talk about something due to ccps answer."
This CSM needs to push this idea, its something that pos management teams want, and no we are not going to get a 10% of the forums vote for support, there are to few of us that setup and run them for that, but it effects thousands of people in game. Support the DEAD HORSE POS's |

The "POS: The Dead Horse" original thread in Features & Ideas Discussions Forum is celebrating it's 3d Christmas! That's right people, it has seen 3 Christmas Holidays come and gone, and it is still here. I wonder if there is any other player supported thread that has been as heartily ignored, for as long of a time, as the POS overhaul.
CSM - bring this to CCP again! And again! And AGAIN! AND AGAIN!
Just because CCP tells you it is "too much work" does not mean you have to slink away, and play nice.
Players have been keeping the thread alive for 3 years, well, almost, and so far CCP worked really hard to ignore it. Shouldn't it be your job to make it happen? I am sorry, I know, Iceland trips are more important than making waves, and bringing CCP things they really do not want to deal with.
Merry Christmas everyone.

This should be implemented, so CSM, go do your job, represent the players :) I know that CCP declined it once, but we want it and 'it's too hard' is not a valid excuse. We will keep wanting it until they come of with valid design reason why it would not fit into EVE. |

I am glad people do not let this up. It has been years, and CCP pretty much ignored, and swept it under the rug.
The POS as it is NOW needs to be re-examined and revamped. Honestly, they cant screw it up, the CCP that is, they can no, simply because it is so screwed up already that making it worse would be like going back to 2004.
Anyway, all people who need this, whatever their affiliation might be, should contact the CSM they have voted for, and support the POS overhaul, point them to these boards, you know, just in case they are "too busy" and forgot about the "funny POS thing" as CCP has called. |

Originally by: Jinx Barker

The Devs should look at it every bloody day and be embarrassed. The sheer volume of the positive response to this idea is unprecedented on this forums. And, what do we get back from the CCP? ..."funky POS idea"...."too hard"..... just makes me want to vomit, really.
CCP get off your collective bums, not that we do not appreciate so much cool new stuff, and fix the biggest pain in the arse in EVE after lag, that is right, to me personally, the biggest pain, after lag is POS in its current form, and always have been.
Day in, and day out, your players - CCP - have to deal with the most mind numbing, time consuming, ugly, unsightly, cumbersome, ungainly, lame, clubfooted, collection of dregs ever created! Please fix the damned thing already!
You fixed, a lot, some terrible UI issues, you have fixed, a lot of lag, you have balanced the ships (some would say nerf), you redesigned the damned stargates, you are expanding the god damned universe for crying out loud, why the hell do we have to beg you for years to fix the POS, years guys, aren't you even slightly embarrassed by it? Is there anyone reading this blinking forum who has some decency to come out and tell us something about this?
Whatever.... I am just disgusted tonight, I do not even expect any dev to read it, they are too busy doing other things....

We could have alliance buddies with there own corp hangers in our pos'es, with full access to labs etc.
astro farms, farm module+soil+plant seeds = - 1% oxygen use per hour. cattle farms. CCP could develop it in many ways. if ccp is interested in changing sov to industry based. this is the way to go

Ya current POS look like crap even with the new bubble.
POS should look like a weaker version of outposts really not some massive force field in space.
Really I mean it goes against the idea of space ships because if it was possible to have that massive of a force field I would strap it to a titan.
So CCP get working on making this work soon.

You are mistaken, the main reason CCP said they won't do it is because ..... "it is too hard." I am serious, it is because it will be a BIG project, they feel they can not do this... So, they can do stuff, but not when it is hard.

Signed, I agree the current POS's don't look realistic, a bunch of modules floating in space around a tower just doesn't look realistic, at the very least have the modules connect together in a streamlined way, how it would be if we were able to leave ship and walk around the POS (even though we know this will never happen).

When I first joined EVE, POS's were THE high end content, running them was the thing small corps asspired to.
Then I saw on in all it's glory. When I finally stopped laughing at the collection of random parts floating in space I realised something. This dead horse needs a res.

POS's need a change, and they need it bad.
If this has been on the table for nigh 3 years now, CSM has absolutely NO excuse not to bring it to CCP's attention.

3d CSM is the charm? So far this issue and CSM have been mutually exclusive, I wonder why? Because no one wants to cause waves once they get a free trip to Iceland, by bringing this up again in a PROPER AND THOROUGH FORMAT, rather than "funky POS idea?

I am disappointed in the lack of imagination and vision of the people who support the modular pos, because a modular pos is what they only seem to care about.
Having been with eve for three years, its flaws and potentials seem to stand out with time, yet the notion of refining and further development of the game mechanics seem to be trivial to say the least.
I fear people are stupefied by a single idea of limited importance to the evolvement/development of the game mechanics. As if getting rid of a big annoyance with pos' is all that is to be of interest.
So now I guess CCP will perhaps make pos' modular and that will pretty much be it. The pos issue, or rather a rethinking of pos logistics and pos warfare seemed like a good opportunity to evolve things, and seeing that there are multiple interesting ideas about a other things, it feels somewhat awful to know that it has to take this long a time to get merely a few steps ahead.
Seems to me that itemization, bugfixing and features are more important that evolving the gameplay and that saddens me.
I hope CSM delegates have some balls to get into the mood of thinking of evolving the game mechanics in a more visonary and imaginary way so that they can at least make a semi qualified judgement when people come up with ideas.

What you call limited importance is the back bone of every major alliance, all t2 gear of any kind. We are asking for ccp to update what has been the same since pos's came out.
Everything in this game has changes at some point or another but pos's. its time they get love too.
Just because we want modular pos's doesn't mean we want it to stop there. That's just one of the major things that should have happened a long time ago.
I have said it before, and Ill say it 10,000 more times, if not this idea then something, its time for pos's to get an overhaul, for better or worse, CCP need to show pos's love.
And to that end, the CSM needs to represent this IDEA to CCP, the way it should have been represented, as an Idea for modular pos's, not the funky pos thing, that they kind of talked about but didn't really have any official talk about.
And the CSM shouldn't come back and call us, the people that are apparently lacking imagination, babies for wanting it to be represented the way it should have been the first time.
And if it is done right, and the CSM bring it up, in official talks, and CCP say no, then they need to give a reason. A real reason, not just "its to hard", as quoted by the CSM.
I have pushed this idea for the last 3 years because its the only idea that has been well laid out, and other changes do need to come with it, but you have to start somewhere. Support the DEAD HORSE POS's |

Edited by: Dierdra Vaal on 11/06/2009 09:00:12 for those of you asking us to bring this up again - it was brought up in CSM1 and CCP told us that implementing this would require a massive development effort (redesigning the whole visual POS system, not to mention how to deal with existing POSes), while the gain is fairly small: its mostly only a visual change - not a functional one. You have to stay realistic and realise that time spent developing this means time is not spent developing other aspects of the game.
While just as all of you I'd love to see this implemented there are just a lot more important things that need fixing that will actually improve the gameplay instead of making POSes just a bit prettier. It is too bad CCP didnt think of this when they originally made the POS system.
We did ask (in CSM1) for CCP to keep this in mind if/when they would look into new anchorable structures (player housing maybe?). So I'm very sorry but I highly doubt this will be brought to CCP again, in this CSM or future ones. Director of Education :: EVE University

Since you are using the excuse of: "other important things" - like the musical instruments, which CSM has pushed through?
You joking, right? Lets not forget how CSM has referred to this request as a "funky POS idea" - when one starts making light of things, it clearly shows how "important" it was.
Give me a break, POS are LAGFESTS, even a moron who runs missions all day would admit that when they enter a mission with a POS-Like structures, and they are connected vs. scattered - the lag is much much less. Currently whenever I am next to a POS my CPU use spikes, my FPS drops, and it affects gameplay, whatever you might want to say about that.
Just because CCP is happy to accept idiotic inanities like musical instruments, and other trash CSM shoves it up there - and passes it up as "PUBLIC DEMAND" - does not mean that we are all stupid.
I clearly see that this whole CSM has been, if not began as, a gigantic PR stunt. Hence why I see other EVE players realize it as well, since the turnout is becoming rather low.
Get a backbone, and realize that this is the MOST WANTED FEATURE on this forums. The POS thread is THE LONGEST RUNNING thread on forums, and most thoroughly ignored one. Just bizarre. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed you trip to Iceland, after it seems that you and rest of CSM are pretty much only care about that.

So, First we get this
Then we get This
Then we get this
And then this
so this:
46. 0102-07-0077 Funky POS Recommendation
Waited the whole term, and was as LaVista Vista said, never officially talked about in the CSM meeting with CCP in Iceland, was given a joke of a name, and made to seem only so so wanted by the general public.
That is hardy taking it to them, and we the player base that vote for you, the CSM want this...
One of the most important things about any proposal is the TITLE, that title made this look like a joke.
We already know this will take a lot of work, and we want development time spent on it, we want CCP to give us a real reason for not working on pos's as a whole, and leaving the whole system as broken as it is.
We want modular pos's, which would help with reduction in lag, make pos's physically appealing. It would also make setting pos's up a lot easier, and feel like you doing more then moving junk around in space.
This could also allow for shared hanger bays, no longer needing to move bpc's from a lab to a production array's, or ships over to hangers when you deliver them. guns wouldn't need there own storage, no array would, making using a pos for production easier. Docking in the pos, so no more pos bubble, it fits however many ships you can fit in the SMA connected to it, it would prevent blobs sitting in pos's for hrs on end, and encourage fights. These are just a few ideas that could go through with this update, its not like it would be the only thing that has to happen when CCP update the looks, and feel, they should upgrade the system as a whole.
If they think it would be to much work to rewrite the current system, they can keep it, and use this as a tier 2 pos, write fresh code for it.
End of day, we want this, and until CSM brings it back to CCP, and we get straight answers, and a yes, or in depth reason as to why not, then we will continue to ask the CSM to bring it to CCP
I hope you like seeing this thread on the front page of assembly hull, because it no one else bumps it, Ill make sure it gets a bump every 24hs.
EDIT: Oh, every week that CSM ignores this, Ill be adding a new ad to isksense for this cause. |

Edited by: Jinx Barker on 13/06/2009 18:16:12 CSM has failed EVE Community miserably with this.
The excuses are appalling, "we were allowed to discuss, but we did not, because CCP did not want us to" ... "we did discuss"... "no we did not really".... "the expectations are unreasonable" ...
This is a joke. CSM is a f-ing joke, I have a letter from Bunyip - that says he will bring it up before the end of the term, did he? I have not heard of anything of the sort.
What is more shameful is that CCP is totally ignoring this thread, and has been ignoring other one for years now, guys, YEARS...
Anyway, I think EVE community is to apathetic about pretty much anything, and CSM are too scared of NDA, CCP, and a loss of a trip to Iceland. Personally, I think CSM is a failed experiment, and as I mentioned before a biggest gimmick and a PR stunt of CCP.
An issue which has been overwhelmingly supported, and yet ignored lingers on the forums. CSM making excuses for CCP as to why they can not talk about it, and CCP is just keeping its mouth shut, not even a dev blog on - on an issue that has been around for over 3 years!!! The best part of it though, is that CSM is now CCP's mouthpiece, the CCP themselves do not have to say anything at all, just let CSM make excuses for their Iceland plane ticket sponsors, and hotel payers.

The Eve community has overwhelmingly agreed that the 'other aspects of the game' that have been under development instead, are unnecessary! What effects have all of the other upgrades they've given us lately had? T3, while interesting, is just that, something of intrest bogging down other parts of the game that need more attention. |

This thread started out as a request to update graphics, but also sneak some functionality upgrades in. And then went off on several tangents.
I see three main groups, and they've all posted. We've heard from the "it makes my computer slow" people, the "it looks too ugly" people, and the "new FUNCTIONALITY, not just graphics" group.
Would someone please delete this thread and start two new ones? I'd be happy to sign the new "functionality" thread, although I've personally set up 5 POSs and my wish list only has on it: powergrid booster modules, CPU booster modules, and silos that can be accessed without being offlined.
I won't sign the graphic petition because I don't really care what they look like. |

I gave this a thumbs up three pages back. Subsequently I've read all of the CSM input in this thread and I have some choice words. Poppy****. Uttery poppy****.
Since "Dead Horse" appeared their have been changes to the code base, Drones have been revised completley as have missiles, nano modules and so on. Let us NOT forget that "Dead Horse" predates Trinity and the later move to a SM2/SM3 only engine in Apoc'.
"CCP say it's too difficult". I don't believe you, I don't believe them. Because they have already taken on much larger projects with regards to overhauling elements of EVE than this would require. You seriously want me to accept that rewriting the whole graphics engine AND redesigning all art assets is smaller than migrating the current half-finished joke of POSes to this system?
In a word. No. Will you please get this on the table. Not as "funky POS thing" but as the actual debate that's been going on for 3 years+. Just because CSM1 were fobbed off I see no reason for CSM2 and CSM3 to stick their fingers in their respective ears and go "lalalalala I can't hear you".

This thread being little over a year old with 21 pages and almost 400 out of the ~ 560 posts are support posts with the thumbs up, and I'm willing to bet around 100 of the non-support posts are from jinx, myself and a few others who have lobbied this post for the past year.
Now THAT says something, it says that its wanted, and not only wanted, but wanted by most everyone that bothers to click post on this thread.
other then capital posts show me one active post that has that kind of support. CCP the players want this, and if we could get every one that plays the game to log onto the forums and read it, Im willing to bet that at very least 3/4s of the players would support this. |

Don't let them railroad you, because they love to do that. And I hope you would not fall into a trap like rest of the CSM where the trip to Iceland and a circle-jerk at CCP, plus their own petty concerns, have outweighed the needs of the community, or had them turn blind eye to something asked, begged, and demAnded for almost 4 years now.
I am a very private person, do not want anyone digging around my life, or have copies of my passports, or anything like that, otherwise I would have ran for CSM myself on the sole premise of fixing POS - thats it. One main issue as a focus. Oh well.

Originally by: Kaylan Jahlar The CSM already brought this to CCP and they said it was not going to be done. Why do you keep bringing it up?
1) CSM did not really bring it to CCP - there was a lot of double talk from certain CSM - who claimed that they have, when it turned out they devoted less than 5 minutes of time to it, because: "CCP said it was too hard, so we did not even bother discussing it, getting details."
2) CCP never said it was impossible - just that it will take a lot of work. Hence, we want CCP to take time, and do it properly, the way POS should have been done in the first place, not the half-arsed "junk-in-space-ala-deadh-horse."
3) Do some research on what CSM actually did, and you will find that that a discussion on "MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS IN EVE" took place, got approved, while the POS overhaul issue was barely mentioned as the "funky POS idea."
Now, be a good boy, and go conform somewhere else, with the rest of the CSMs who really did diddley-squat about this - longest running request in the history of EVE, yea mate, longest running, longest asked for, longest desired, and completely legitimate, and yet ignored request from the EVE community in the history of EVE.
Support the POS overhaul! Even if the "musical instruments" crowd would want you to give up!

I support this topic...
I'm pretty new, but it's clear to me that this has been the most supported topic around since before I got here.
CCP, I think most players realize this will take a lot of work and that other things will take a back burner while this gets done. WE STILL WANT IT DONE! Yes, I know that it's not your job to simply do everything the players want a ****-all on game mechanics and backend that we don't have to deal with or give two thoughts about. However, I think it's clear that the support that has been given to this idea deserve at least a days worth of CSM discussion. After which you should devote a dev blog to explaining exactly why you are either a) ignoring what seems to be an overwhelming majority of the player base (at least the ones posting on the forums) or b) exactly how and when you intend on implementing this.
CSM's (except the one who recently said he had words for CCP regarding POS's). We, the players who elected you, DEMAND that you discuss this with CCP. We realize you cannot force them to change anything in the game, but you -should- be forcing this into discussion each and every chance you get to talk with them. It's clearly the most supported idea, 60 pages between this thread and the OP. You didn't get elected to offer the excuses that I've read, you got hired to represent the players. This doesn't mean one 5 minute discussion, this means keep telling CCP, EVERY TIME you meet with them "Hey, the players still really want this, they won't @#$@ing leave us alone about it, we need to discuss this again." then you can come back here and give us the notes on that meeting so we know your actually doing something to earn that trip to Iceland you apparently get.
To the CSM who said he'd have words for CCP on this a page or two back... Guess we'll have to wait and find out if your actions match your words. Don't disappoint us or we'll never believe you again.

CSM - you were elected to represent the players - whatever your own, personal opinion might be on the matters.
As such, I think a thread which has run for 4 (four) years, asking CCP to get onto POS fix deserves to be brought to CCP, whatever the case might be. Furthermore, said 4-year-running request deserves more than 5 minutes of discussion, or silly names like "Funky POS Idea" - and sure as hell it deserves a detailed Dev Blog from CCP.
There is no other thread on this forums that has been as widely supported, and as often asked for, or as LONG RUNNING - as the "Dead Horse POS."

I am reposting something a former CSM, who supposedly supported the issue has said, and my response to him, in this thread.
Originally by: LaVista Vista I see a whole lot rabble here.
So here's where we are standing:
CCP can not justify ripping out the whole POS system, to implement it in a modular style. It will take a lot of time, labour and considerable amounts of pain, when the POSes we have on TQ, has to be converted to the new ones.
So a full re-implementation is out of the picture.
CCP did agree to looking into the possibility of using this idea for personal anchor-able structures.
I see a whole lot of "Waah, this isn't good enough, raise this to CCP until they agree entirely.".
But what exactly should CCP say, in order to make you happy? That is pretty unclear.
LV, you have broken promises when you were a CSM on this issue. You tried, but you did not do your utmost, some of it might have been the NDA with which CCP pretty much controls the CSM, some of it may have been the "don't-rock-the boat" attitude you have adopted once CCP told you "NO" after CSM - I would say MISREPRESENTED - the issues community has with the POS. Whatever the case may be, water under the bridge.
Now, to answer the sensible question - since I see you seem to really want to obfuscate the issue - you learn quickly yongin: "But what exactly should CCP say, in order to make you happy? That is pretty unclear"
1) When CSM brought a 4-year-running, (at the time 3-year-running) issue to CCP they should have presented it as what it was a POS upgrade and overhaul. A comprehensive one. Not a "Funky POS Idea" on which CCP and CSM barely spent any time - as we now know, and were not told at the time.
2) Taking into account the sheer length of time the request has been standing, CSM should have pushed for a comprehensive developer blog on the issue. When we had the massive Q&A session on forums - by CCP Zulupark barely touched it!
To summarize for those who would wish to cover their arse... and say things are not "clear"
A comprehensive developer blog. Taking into account the 4 years worth of discussions on the POS improvement, do not have to take it all in - you know, it might be "too much of work" for CCP and CSM - but most salient points would be enough. A blog that will cover, and show appropriate respect for the community that has been begging and crying for this change to the way POS system currently works.
We do not want the POS to be the "ugly step child" that CCP barely acknowledges. It has been way too many years that this has been going on.
This blog should clearly take into account most supported suggestion, outline a course of action, or course of possible action. It should explain in no uncertain terms the work that will go into implementing the requested changes, and tell the players if CCP actually devoted any time, other than maybe 8 man-hours to the feasibility study on this thing.
Clear enough? Yes/No?
I know the blog would have to be huge, but I am sure CCP Zulupark can manage it.

I had to tear down a refining POS last night, god that sucked...
The refinery has an unanchor time of 2 hours, wtf? Then ofc accidently offlined the tower without unanchoring a last mod, so had to wait another half hour to re-online the tower...what a pain in the ass...
POS's right now are pretty fail...they're useful as a safe bubble, for labs and for the refinery (and the refineries are only useful in a wormhole). They're a pain to put up and take down, and seriously need to be looked at.

With alot of POS working and pos setup. and don't like it. I really like this idea.
The POS handling would be flexible, easy to handle, and have low cost to start with.
Thinks to thinking about. What shall the max power, max tf, max fuel bay be? Should those things too be flexible? or should they be a fix size.
Well I guess that is something to think about. But this should be a thing that CCP should take a much closer look into. Give us some nice, easy, modulated POS to work with.

I agree, more pos designs would rock, could i suggest 3 ideas?
one could be where you ahve to create the catacombs/base work of hte ship first sorta like hte atlantis citey ship in stargate or the huge command ship that was hte super stardestroyer from starwars, and like then the extra stuff like corporation officces, docking arrays and research facilities etc are built around and on top of it appropriately to keep it clean, then they could require it to be docked in orbit over a moon for it to function at full power for either production of it or shields to balance it out, and this would sorta look cool and clean allowing someone to pilot it.
the second idea is sorta better, like individual ships can be constructed and devoted to a specific purpose like a research veessel and it either works on its own in flight or you have to dock it to other ships together and have them weilded together by the superstructure while parked thier to function at full power, that way it would be easier to have individual bases pop up since the power could be integrated into a single structure.
or whatever you could just have a huge space station that sorta hovers thier with giant laser beams protecting it.... like the deathstar... whatever lol
i just like to day dream but yea maybe someone wil lilke those ideas

ok say to beat this further into the ground, you have a new type of ship bigger then a titan, a base ship, its basicly a giant hull, like massive sorta like wide and yet also long, and spread out, and then you could start with that then you could like install generators/towers of varying portians that would do the fuel processing, etc, and then you could have other sections which would be sorta standard, thier would be like weapons ports, sensor arrays, support structures, docking bays, and perhaps even like outer hull areas to accept motherships to land ontop of and bind ontop, adding its abilties to the base ship perhaps, even allowing titans to join up,etc. Perhaps maintain the huge pos shields though but only allow em to function when synched in a orbit

This is what the Titain was ment for, but CCP couldn't do it. Saying that, these idea's deserve a topic of there own, they cant just be droped on top of this idea and expect them to float well. Also it might be a good idea to format the text a little better.
Thanks for the Ideas though, oh and bumped to page one. Support the DEAD HORSE POS's |

100% support. when i started in my first player corp, and i heard we had a POS, this is what i imagined i would see when i warped to it. much to my dismay, it was instead the jumbled, soap-bubbly mess that we have now. i would even go so far as to say, lets do away with the bubble all together, and have a docking manager at the bay, allowing only approved players in.
tl;dr YES!!! and in conclusion, thank you for reading my sig. |

POS are a buggy mess and that's why CCP is moving away from them for sovereignty mechanics in Dominion. I can venture to guess that with their removal from a central role in sov they now can be tinkered on without massively impacting alliance warfare. Furthermore it sounds like the "infrastructure hub" that was mentioned in the most recent dev blog thread is going to incorporate these ideas.

If the infrastructure hub is indeed a modular type station/thingy then yes this is what we are looking however I personally would like to see CCP do a phased conversion of POS's as well and specifically say in info that they do NOT affect sov. I am also waiting for CCP to post on dominion page as well as put out more dev blogs. Would also love to see a Dev have an in-game or otherwise conversation with this group as after reading the minutes (admittedly linked ones were from a while ago) it seems like CCP is going with a preference for small, incremental adjustments. I would have no problem with that if we had an idea far in advance of dev/coders 'schedule'. Cause while the funny movies at fanfest are great if they are taking away from dev time that is a disservice to your customers. Btw this is the first post ever I have made and after playing the game for near two years I can say this topic has my full-hearted support.

And I still agree with it today. this is not too different from the mechanics of T3 ships.
You should be able to open a fitting menu on a POS and start adding "subsystems".
Heck or just give us an interface so we can move POS modules and set them up like they look in missions would be fine to.

This thread has been seen and looked over several times by the Dev team. It's a very bold and interesting proposal. However any change like this would require a massive amount of development in both programming and artwork. It's not something that could happen overnight.
Having said that, we're well aware of the current state of starbase warfare and it's one of our top post-Trinity priorities for overhaul.
That said, I am quite sure this has been suggested before but only GOD could locate it in all theses 3 YEARS of postings.
Understandable it would take time but why not just introduce this as a TIII Player Owned Station ?
The main gripe here seems to be how would we impliment it and what would happen to the old POS's ?
Anyone who saw this (especialy if the bugs that now exist have been even half fixed) would WANT to replace the old one(s)...
And I did see it somewhere and agree, eventualy they could be phased out entirely.
This brings us back to DOMINION. Seeing how MANY existing POS's will no longer be needed then it would stand to reason that the market will be flooded with thousands of very very cheap POS's... What better time to hit the recycle button.
CCP has already stated a buyback program is NOT going to be offered, so why not make it a ingrediant in the TIII building process.
Introduce it as a fragment of Mag sites and when reversed a TIII BPC is produced, when manufactured (like any faction POS) a current L/M/S POS is required to complete the build...
Skill it or do not, this would solve the recycling process and it would also bolster commerce and exploration.
"Exploration of Mags for the Sleeper Station Fragments" "Mining (Undoubtably like a faction POS it would need additional ore)" "Industry (Those who cannot build it will want it built" "PVE and Traders (Being its TIII I am quite sure some TIII parts would be needed)
And CCP think of the JOY you would bring to the ART department dreaming up concept ART for a TIII Sleeper intergrated look to the skin of this BRILLIANT and BOLD new POS
Note: They did a awesome job on the Sleeper Stations we have now (and it didnt take 3 years) imagine letting them run rampant with this new concept art. Use the base design of this POS as its been offered but make it look deep, dark, scarey, tantalizing and delicious... LIKE EVE ITSELF !
Mods could be handled the same way...
This can work into DOMINION if they get a loud enough cry from the people who PAY

Agreed, This needs CSM to bring it to ccp again, the last time it was brought up was a joke, oh btw Zastrow J what ever happened when you guys talked to CCP about pos's, care to share anything or do we have to wait for the meeting minutes, which I am having a hard time finding an up to date list of current events brought up by this CSM, you guys need to organize things better, in an easy to read format, and time stamp everything in the wiki so we know what time frame everything was brought up in, and when updates have been made if anywhere.

I agree CCP has not adressed this matter and should with the growing support of its paying customers...
However I tend to think they have put the CSM mechanic into place to have fair representation of the players.
Lets try not to muck up the water with critisism of the CSM roles just yet, the system is fairly new and seems to have some momentum as well as a few bugs to work out.
To me being a CSM is like having the job of a prober in a worm space corp...
Its a thankless job that gets critisized often, has tons of time and energy invested and no matter what or how you do it someone always has something negative to say or a better way to get the job done...
But yet that same someone with the big mouth is all to often the one who does the least to help the overall cause and the first to hide when its time to knuckle down and do the tedious ground work...
And campaigning for a pilot for CSM has a different place my well intentioned friend !
Try to keep this topic clear, consise, focused and thriving with genuine input.
THAT will get the attention of those that make the decisions.
Rambling, flaming, bantering and soap boxing for a CSM candidacy simply gives those that wish to read this thread and digest its content more crap to wade through and detracts from the impact and serious consideration it should get.
Treat the topic like your favorite vessel and tweak it to the point it makes a impact and is noticable.
Support those few men and women who have given their time, effort and thick skins to present such ideas a chance to do their job and feel good about doing it rather than shoot them down at each opportunity.
Like I tell my corp and alliance members if you can do the job better, step up to the plate show your stuff (basicly put up or shut up)
If your not part of the solution then better to stay silent rather than add to the problem.

While I agree most of what you said, keep in mind, not everyone is able to take time away from there RL and fly to Iceland, or go to meetings every week about a video game.
In addition to that, the CSM considers this issue already brought up, and I as well as many others disagree with that, it was a poor job, they misrepresented the idea, and made it look like a joke, not worth 10 min of there time. It never even made it, officially to the table, as it was "already discussed" and "there was no point in talking about it" as such, the CSM has failed on this topic, and until that changes, or I am in a position to signup for the CSM and support this idea myself, I'm going to lobby for it.

Quote: While I agree most of what you said, keep in mind, not everyone is able to take time away from there RL and fly to Iceland, or go to meetings every week about a video game.
I think you misunderstood, my point was to stay involved (here on the forum) and keep it constructive.
If each person who "EVER" signed this drops by once a week and catches up, tweaks a few concepts and makes a constructive suggestion... It will stay on top, it will be reflected by the huge amount of posts to the thread and CCP will feel the pressure to re-examine the concept.
Quote: In addition to that, the CSM considers this issue already brought up, and I as well as many others disagree with that, it was a poor job, they misrepresented the idea, and made it look like a joke, not worth 10 min of there time. It never even made it, officially to the table, as it was "already discussed" and "there was no point in talking about it" as such, the CSM has failed on this topic, and until that changes, or I am in a position to signup for the CSM and support this idea myself, I'm going to lobby for it.
Personaly I applaud your efforts and the efforts of all that have contributed to the concept "topic" as well as those who have tried to refine it to a acceptable proposal...
My comments regarding Knocking CSM's, campaining in the thread for a CSM job or irrelavant and useless commentary was in no way pointed at you. I am simply trying to drive home the point that...
IF the CSM who origionaly pitched the idea dropped the ball and didnt drive the concept home properly, didnt follow up, didnt make proper notes then lets not associate that persons shortcomings with the whole CSM project or people currently doing the job. Support those doing their best and if anything assist them.
ANY proposal submitted in albeit RL or in this GAME should be tweaked and brainstormed. (I think most of that has been done)
Formated in a way that highlights the advantages of the change, the downside if any and how to minimize that downside making implementation smoother and transition to the new system as as painless as possible.
THEN, document the support and if need be call for every pilot who wants to see this implemented to submit a petition or direct mail the development team...
A cut and paste support statement and request for change could be posted and easily pasted to the petition box and sent in a matter of minutes. The real issue here is to be heard and stressed that as a paying customer you (WE) feel the matter was not properly addressed and the community wants it to be looked at a second time.
PETITIONING is a valid and constructive means to getting those that represent you to listen. The trick is when they do then its essential you have it properly formulated and laid out in easy to understand concept, implementation and support.
Quote: Sure you can sit there and say you do the job, and see how it gos for you, but end of day, the real world knocks and bread and butter come before anything else.
I have no desire to be a CSM or representative (As I stated its a thankless whipping boy position) however that said I would volunteer to spend the time "ON THIS IDEA" If the current CSM, you or anyone with a ear to CCP will run with it... "I as I am sure many would sit down and write a serious proposal."
IF those supporting this can put aside childish remarks, knocking CSM's for doing their best and contribute by editing the proposal with constructive and workable ideas a finished product could be presented and then a mass petition organised filed or mailed to show the overwhelming support that this concept has.

Edited by: Tipz NexAstrum on 11/10/2009 23:14:21 From the '09 keynote:
Originally by: CCP Hellmar In August we shifted themes again, and now we have shifted over to excellence. So more production was about doing more, more features, more output. Now we will see CCP and EVE work more on refining and doing fewer things but do them really well. So you can expect alot of the existing things in EVE to be improved. You've already seen we're doing the mail system, totally from scratch. Again because I mean even though it's there it needs to be refined and put into excellence.
This mindset needs to be applied to POS's current implementation. This idea fundamentally improves the game experience, instead of anchoring a blob of mods it changes to building a starbase.
Also, I find it funny that had CCP actually investigated this idea when it was first posted, instead of saying "too tough, not going to try", they might have even found the Ferrogel POS exploit.

I supported it almost exactly a year ago, and I'll support it again.
It's frustrated that it still hasn't been taken seriously by CCP.

Concerning POS Fueling requirements.
With the advent of dominion and sovereignty changes I would like to suggest a change to the way POS' are fueled.
Rather than having to gather all the required resources. I'd like to see the creation of a new POS Battery to replace all of the components required. Allow the pos battery to be manufactured (create a BPO) and put it on a timer such as 30, 60, 90 days. This should significantly reduce the number of calculations performed on every POS on every moon in EVE and allow for better logistical support of an alliance, corporation, or individual tower.
A secondary battery called a reinforcement battery could replace stront and stront timers in 6, 12, 18, 24 hour increments allowing multiple reinforcement batteries to be installed on a tower.
For tower mods and armament either leave the hvy water/liquid ozone required or change these mods to use cpu and power as part of the POS Battery.
Cheers

SiSi models of the infrastructure hubs indicate that the new infrastructure hubs may be using this idea. (not comfirmed, source: http://www.scrapheap-challenge.com/viewtopic.php?t=30057&start=0 )
Again, it is not a bad idea, but converting all the existing POSes to this system would require a huge amount of work for only a limited (mostly visual) benefit. However, if CCP did indeed use this idea for the new infrastructure hubs (which they should, and I hope they have), they could design the system from the start to keep this in mind which would reduce a lot of the workload.

Or what they could do is unseed the old ones, and seed the new ones, so they will get gradually replaced by attrition alone as the old ones are popped, or manually replaced to get the benefits visual or otherwise from the new ones.
And I'm still supporting this topic :) . ---- --- ---

Edited by: K''orr Jaden on 15/11/2009 19:29:23 Here's to the most awesome suggestion ever published about POS improvements - and the most mortifying way of the addressee to ignore it for years! One of the very rare responses CCP coughed up was, that it would be way too complicated to create a system of modular POS structures including all necessary graphics and design efforts (even though admitting the positive effect on the numbers of seperate entities to be loaded upon warp-in) ...
... and that was just weeks before they brought modular ships into the game. So a moving patchwork entity is feasable, but a stationary is not??

um yes, current pos setups are FUGLY. so why not implement the idea, I know there are considerations on the amount of design involved. and with walking in stations and dust 514 ccps designers got alot on their plates. but I do feel that compared to some of the other things added over the past 2years this shouldnt be horribly hard to implement. maby after tec 3 frigs and battleships.
