Edited by: Confuzer on 18/11/2008 21:06:37 Memory leak allright. Put a client on, went to watch a movie, fell asleep, came back, client consumes 450 mb. new client I started consumed 250....
The 450mb client has the lag error. It has NO weapon grouping, so that might lessen the effect, but the effect is from something else leaking.
edit: watching new client... avg of 500kb increase every 6 seconds or so, while doign nothing with it. |

+1 to lag issues. Happens at what feels to be consistent intervals, worsens over time. Started after expansion. |

System: XP 64bit. 3.3ghz core 2 quad. 8gb of ram - Page file disabled. Raptor hard drives. 8800gt.
Clients: 1-3 Same problem, slow wallet, any window movement.
I don't think its the classic memory leak where it just keeps using more, it seems to max out and then the software tries to do cleanup, and things get worse. My client's wont go past 700mb total usage from what ive seen. Windows shows the Mem Usae, Then Vm Size, and it keeps at 350/350 approx. I certianly dont remember 350mb being used in "primary" memory ever. Windows would always transfer it to VM.
My system does not run out of memory. So it takes longer. I usually wait a couple hours before relogging.
Observations. Trading in Jita it gets much worse quicker, then small gang pvping in 0.0.
Being in space is about the same as being in station, there's just less to notice slowing down.
AFK hauling 25 jumps is about the worse.
The more you interact, like trading the faster it starts lagging out i think.
Ive tried this on a older computer, winxp32, 2gb ram etc. Exactly the same results just more noticeable sooner.

Same problem right here as well. I only run 1 client with system specks:
2.8 gHz Intel Core Duo 2gb Memory Nvidia GeFore 8800GT Gigabyte P45PE-DS3R
only running a 512/128kb connection but I used to be able to run two clients pre-patch, now im lucky if I can run a single one for 5 minutes before the lag takes over and i have to stop playing, and even if I start a new client and log back in the same thing happens all over again |

- Change your graphics cache size to low: esc->graphics->Cache size: Low - Change VSYNC setting: - Graphics options -> check "advanced settings" -> Present Interval to one.
worked for me.
confirmations?

I did the same (changed only the VSYNC setting, cache size was already on low):
It did NOT work for me!

this doesnt seem to touch on the subject of the UI freezes and the way the client locks up when opening and closing windows, its more general ''lag in fleet fights'' so what about the UI problems? I would have thought this would have been higher priority because it effects everyone, not just those in fleet fights.

Since the release of Quantum Rise we have been getting reports from players about client performance. We have been reading those reports, analysing the scenarios, testing and reviewing code since the release. We now have a couple of fixes ready and a few more in the pipes, which we think may address the problems you are describing, and we want your help in testing them on Singularity. Please read this thread for more information; CCP Tanis. is organising the testing effort.

Edited by: Shinzu Takigawa on 20/11/2008 21:04:14 Edited by: Shinzu Takigawa on 20/11/2008 20:56:42 Its not lag its a memory leak issue where eve doesnt tell your computer properly how much ram to use up while playing so it slowly but surely keeps on sucking it until the game becomes unplayable, crashes or your computer locks ups and in some rare cases could overheat your cpu and your graphics card.
Next time you get this open up Windows Task Manager and go to processes, select eve.exe or hit the memory tab so highest memory use is at top. You will see eve.exe sucking the most memory and it just keeps on rising and rising until its in the hundreds of thousands and eve locks up or doesnt respond every 2 mins.
Different things trigger it for different clients, for me it seems to only happen when I join a fleet of over 20 and usually straight after iv just joined the fleet. Once I re log it seems to sort itself out.
This issue happend before a few batches back, the memory leak issue has happend many time in eve, always seems to come back and I think a problem with the main game code. Last time the memory leak issue only happend when people were docked at stations for longer periods of time.
If it happens and everything becomes jumpy your comp is being sucked dry and struggling ( not because of your specs ) so best thing you can do is re log and pray it does not happen two or three times. Until they fix it.........again.

I watched the same thing happen last night when I made a 20 Jump trip to Rens.
I picked up a new ship, used the market and fit some things to it and headed back. Made it 5 jumps and my framerate was like 3 or 4 fps and memory use went thru the roof. I rebooted and problem was gone.
No fleet, no combat, just traveling and shopping. FWIW |

Originally by: Sin Demon After this path I noticed that the game now lags like hell. Even in systems with 10-20 people.
My ISP connection is an 8 megabits/s link and it's working extremely well, so it's not a matter of bad connection.
Just me ?
I've got to agree with the OP. The lag ingame has grown considerably worse after the QR patch. The game runs for about ten seconds, freezes for about thirty, and repeats. |

Memory leak issue still not fixed and now occuring more often especially when in a fleet. This happend a few months ago and has started again after quantum rise.
So when is the next patch , to fix the patch , to fix the patch before and the patch that will fix the one before that patch Mr CCP?

Im trying to pinpoint what it is I add to this thread even though I already have posted elsewhere.
Originally by: Quazal Atreides ok same problem here, and if i didn't know better it looks almsot like a memeory leak.
Any news on this ccp please :)
I think it is a memory leak, but there is something more to this also, so lets look further.
Originally by: Minny Sky Never group guns. There is a lag problem with that.
Good advice, grouping already off for me, and see no difference, so it is not related to the problem I see - but might ease uo for other peoples gameplay.
Originally by: Sin Demon Yes even small number seem to add to the problem, below 20 in a system actually make things move a little bit better.
I see the same, with some 40 people in the system everything is affected, from menus to entering info or making trade.
When the number is below 20, those activities can appear almost normal, except for closing tabs which always is a pain.
Originally by: Chop Shop ..not really sure if it's network lag totally or not but the UI windows all seem to have become sluggish -- opening or closing. I realize opening the wallet or market rely on network throughput et al but I see a second or more delay just closing windows now.
Opening and closing windows are extremely sluggish, no matter if it is the character sheet or the map that I had to hit 8 times a moment ago only to get it to open. Closing almost as hard takes many tries before its removed.
And dont talk about accessing inventory or wallet.
So here we see the exactly same thing Mr Chop.

The problem has been improved, but I'm still experiencing similar behavior to less of a degree.
- I still get the repetitive intervals of lag in combat that last for consistent durations. - Longer overall delays in the UI (incl. market) than was normal prior to Quantum 1.0
Thanks for the early patch! The steady degradation of connection seems to have been solved or greatly lessened.

I am still getting these 2-3 seconds timeouts/lags every 30 seconds, and it does not matter if its in premium or classic mode. Changing back and forth from low to extreme cache doesnŠt help either. Still a relog seems to be the only solution.
Fleet battles are bad, even shooting a tower with around 30-40 caps gives me around 10-15 fps in classic, and i have a highend system and nothing of importance running in the background.
Sucks..
