I personally think this is an awesome idea. It provides a valid choice - do you leave yourself open to large AOE damage, or do you pin yourself and leave yourself open to traditional firepower? With a large fleet's slower mobility after the patch this really can be a hard decision depending on what's around.
Ordinarily I'm against the typical "ship wit pos buble n its a t2 supercapital btw but cheap so new players can get 1" kind of posts, but this tackles your own fleet AND doesn't prevent targeting. It's a last ditch attempt to keep your fleet alive, and given proper execution turns the titan's exposure against itself.
On the same note, the titan would need a couple changes, I have nothing specific in mind. It's both too powerful and not powerful enough depending on the situation, it wouldn't be quite right to neuter one of its few remaining advantages without giving it something at the same time.

It really is.
For the sake of argument though what about this idea? Fix the "bug" with bubbles and release a new class of bubbles. Fast anchoring, slow unanchoring bubbles that protect from AOE effects such as DD's, bombs, smartbombs, and ECM bursts. Add a special type of probe that dictors can launch to do the same thing. Additionally release a capital mod to the same effect allowing that carrier gang to shelter its support under a protective bubble. Make it have a siege like timer, consume a massive amount of cap, and disable warp/jump drives. Then that carrier gang has to choose. Fit a triage? or fit a device to protect your support and fighters? Risk loosing your carrier to save your gangmates?
As it is I have a hard time supporting allowing current dictor and hictor bubbles to protect against DD's. A cheap probe launched from a destroyer that can magically stop the most devastating attack in the game? While the mechanics are fun it just doesn't make any sense.

Sigras, it won't survive a second DD, and does nothing to protect the other ships in the fleet from one.
A bubble that protects those inside from DD while preventing them warping sounds like an interesting idea. Though balancing it would be interesting. ---------------------------------------------- I support skill queues. |
