Yeah, it would work in the same way as the sxplosion marks and blood splats in half life. Just a small texture would be used. There would not be the need for the entire skin to be downloaded. I'm sure CCP's engine can handle it.

Yeah, that'd work. Then when you get the derelict back to the station, you can refine it and so on. Taking a bunch of mates for protectionwould make it similar to mining. A nice alternative.
