Sounds like you made some mistake there. If you setup a buy order with radius Station, only ppl in current station can sell to it. There is no way someone could sell to you 4 jumps away from buy order's station if this order had radius Station.

In most of cases you dont need to move stuff you buy. You just setup buy order, wait, check stock, put sell orders and sell. And what items I am talking about, well I thought I wont be posting this "public secret" here, but oh well... ship modules...
