If faction standing really bothers you, do interbus missions. Interbus are neutral so you don't lose standing with any faction bar the pirate ones. The trade off is no LP store.

dabble in many things until you get an idea of what you want to do. Then follow my example and spend ages training loads of skills for mining\science\industry only to realise it's incredibly dull and then go all for the pvp skills.
