So, after a bit of thinking, it stands to reason that it would take a lot of lava to fill up space. There is no precedent for lava filling up all of space so it is kind of a silly mechanic. But what I do know is that volcano's produce a lot of fum...

I can already feel some people are concerned about the theme park nature of the volcano mechanic and I sort of agree... I considered player built deployable volcanoes but like, that doesn't make a great deal of sense to me.
