How many times do we see threads along the line of "I've worked weeks to get my cruiser only to have it destroyed by pirates in seconds."
I'm sorry guys, but what the hell are you doing going anywhere near dangerous space with new equipment.
OK. The next thing I have to say will be through gritted teeth because I don't like PC pirates. But Moo are in the position they are in through the fact that they have taken time to learn the game, learn how to use their equipment, and learnt to use tactics. And until others start copying their example they will continue to do their thing.
When I finally get a cruiser I will tell you now. It will not be coming out of 0.8 and higher space for awhile, and then it'll only be in gradual steps, because I want to know my machine inside out. I want to test different ideas and all being well to meet up with like minded people who are willing to invest the time looking at how we can take appart the tactics used by Moo, and others, before I even think of going anywhere near them.
No matter how modern your equipment is, it's only as good as the person using it, and to use it well you have to be able to know it inside out.
I'm looking forward to the day that I can mix it with Moo and take some of them down big style, but don't you guys hold your breaths cos it ain't going be for a while yet I've enough sense to stay right out of your ways <g>.
I'm content to sit back, learn the lessons and let others be the suicide merchants as they blindly throw themselves into situations they can't win time and time again.

I think the point is that ships can thrash one another too quickly, which is a point I agree on.
I believe surgical strike is bugged right now because people with high surgical strike are just owning people bad at the moment.
Too many ways to enhance damage in this game.. it just adds up to too much, even with defensive shield modules, you won't last very long. ------

oh...and when describing MOo you forgot to add learn how to gang-invite spam people so they can react and learn how to set up 40 cargo containers around your so that whoever jumps in will lag just long enough for their invulnerablitiy to wear off.

I'm not saying either points are not valied. They are more then so. What I'm saying is these are well documented problems so why go into 'Dodge' when you know the chips are stacked against you.

People keep forgetting a very simple fact of life (maybe because we're playing a game):
Don't gamble more than you can afford to lose.
I didn't buy 1 Rifter when I was ready to jump out of my noob Reaper. I bought 2. When I did cargo runs during beta, I invested half of what I had in the cargo. No single loss could ever wipe me out.
If you cannot afford to lose something, don't risk it. If you do risk it, you have only yourself to blame in the end. People blame MOo simply because it's easier to find fault than admit fault.
And yes, I insured my Rifter as soon as I bought it too.
I mean its like you want corporations to oblige each other like its sex or something. Pffft I would rather **** my enemy.- Rohann
Be careful out there. That other guy waiting in the queue for the gate MIGHT be a baby-munching frock-burner, YOU JUST DON'T KNOW!- Lallante |

Samuel...because they have no choice but to go through the mara-passari pass, the alternative is at least 65 jumps, many through 0.0 space to go around.

If you never leave 0.8 space you have a snowballs chance in hell of beating up on m0o, ever.
To beat a m0o player at pvp combat you will need to have some very nice rare drop turrets and modules, which you arent going to find in 0.8 space. Your probably not going to be able to even buy them from a trader in 0.8 space, but if you manage to they will cost you an arm and a leg. Its much better to get them free and some experiance and isk as well by fighting high level pirate cruisers.
Now im not saying npc fighting is anything like pvp, but it does give you a good idea of your weapons damage and range. To beat a m0o player you are going to need to know exactly what ranges you want to fire your weapons at him from, and have a good plan of how to get him at that range quickly.
You are going to need to actualy do some pvp fighting as well. You will need to lose the fear of losing your precious crusier and probably actualy lose a few in battle before your ready to face m0o players.
I've never fought m0o, but I have fought other players. Some less experianced and some that were far better then myself in both ship strength, weapons loadout, and experiance. Every time it was a learning experiance. And none of this learning happened in anything above 0.4 security systems. |

Again Minsc you're point is valied. But in real life. If Moo blocked off the Panama Canal would you try to run it with your multi million doller ship, or go around the Cape?
And yes I know that in real life Moo would be, being hit by the the naval forces of at least a dozen countries. But the fact remains, that until the threat clears you stay the hell out of the way. You either take that 60 odd jump trip that is mainly through 0.0 space, or you go somewhere else.
If you take away their targets then they have to move elsewhere. Then you have reduced their advantage a little, because they are moving and not camping, and they are starting to spread themselves a little further. As I believe Mikahel<sp? My appologies here I'm work and can't remember the right name> discovered, even Moo ships when caught on their own are more then vulnerable

GT You may have miss-read what I said. I said start out in 0.8 space and stay there until I know my ship, and then slowly spread into lower level areas as I get a better feel for it's limitations and capabilities

Hey btw not knocking your ideas just trying to add to them :o)
The thought about finding like minded people is right on, this is realy a team game. While its possible to have alot of fun solo, to realy have a shot at going where you want when you want you need partners...
If you want to try some pvp against a less dangerous group of players try "Red Corsairs" a pirate group lurking around amamake. They are fun to play with.
Crepsicle i cant believe you podded our pilots I thought we were kinda friendly >:o( I will be back later for your ass >:o)

Abusing the game is NOT tactics, setting up cargo containers to cause lag is ABUSING A BUG.
If this is used it SHOUD be brought to the attention of the mods and the perps should face the music.
In my opinion abusing a bug in that way should result in grave ecconomic and traing penalties... but thats my opinion.
As for a fair fight (not used here to symbolize fair as in cruiser vs cruiser but rather non bugabuse vs non bugabuse) thats anybodys game, naturaly it should be allowed or the game will become crippled.

Just to clear up some points. If I just got a shiny new cruiser, I'd avoid Mara too. That doesn't mean that eventually, you will have to go through Mara, and you probably will.
That being said.. spending all your time in 0.8 systems, will get you no where. Unless you buy like every single item you could possibly need you will have to venture out. (good luck)
Back to the Mara situation, I think it's lame. I don't mind PVP at all, and I play this game for PVP. My idea of PVP is corporation wars though, some other corps idea of PVP is ganking people when they really have no chance of ever defending themselves anyways.
I don't care for griefing people at jumpgates, griefing has never been my style. It reminds me of bind/lifestone/moongate camping, ect in other games.
That being said, there is nothing illegal about jumpgate camping, and the game allows you to do it.. unfortunately the current game mechanics favor the camper heavily.
The unwarp "freeze" has to be fixed, asap. ------

The reality is gate combat is seriously unbalanced atm. If any of you have ever warped to a gate with 15-20 containers sitting around you know exactly what I'm talking about. By the time you come out of lag and get a handle on the situation your enemy already has you locked. Even a better equipped attacking squad can lose out. Plus the defenders can warp out at a moment's notice, so they can fight with impunity.
Secondly, I'm all for there being pirates in the game, but these guys should have a much tougher time plying their trade in empire space. Just as CCP forced all the miners out into 0.0 space to make a decent profit, the pirates should be forced to take on that level of risk as well. Right now it is just too easy for them to shoot and scoot, knocking out unsuspecting noobs along the way. Things have gotten a little out of hand here. |

well, samual
I fly my THORAX exactly this way
yesterday was my first "contact" with a 0.6-room
I found out, i have to re-outfit my cruiser so, back to save(er) space to do the modifications
btw. it is a pain to loose a ship in seconds, agreed, but we have to face the danger, at least for the moment

They got to where they are by cheeting & greifing, I have no respect for them at all.

As to comment on how m0o got where they are...
Eventhough its not their faulth...
They got to where they are because the game was unstable in means of security and because there were many modules in the game wich gave the weilder godlike powers. They have profited off this ever since the game first came out and in that way got a good headstart on people who were new to the game...
As to comment on your choice of traval with a new ship...
I can tell you this..
Any cruiser coming out of high security zones all by itself for the very first time is easy pickings and no match for well trained pirates.
You have to bare in mind...where will you get equipment? You can't go loot it anywhere because the places where loot is dropped are very low security and very dangerous hence they would be the places where you would NEVER go with a new ship. The alternative option would be to buy it off traders who may deliver it to your door. But they will charge you bigtime for it! And the only cash for you wil be through moning low value ore in high sec systems. you can really run traderroutes cause those pass through low sec most of the times.
Youd have to save up for a very long time and buy all the rare and good equipment off traders who are willing to deliver to your doorstep.
Now ask yourself this...
You now have your cruiser, its insured for its maximum worth and you have all the best equipment and such on your ship...you pass through low security system and run into a pirate battleship and 3-4 pirate cruisers with frigate support. How long do you think your very well equiped cruiser will last? 10 mayeb 12 seconds? You dont stand a chance!
After the pirate gang destroys your ship and your pod youl be back in the rookie system with no cruiser...a some of money wich wont get you back your ship and all the rare equipment you had, wich cist you more in total then what your cruiser is worth are gone and werent insured in any way...
What changes? nothing!
You wanna keep the cruiser you just bought for longer then a couple days? Find some friends to team up with or join a corp or whatever and go hunt in lower security systems. Check the map on your way there, see howmany ships and pods were killed in a sertain area. If you see high shipdestrucktion or podkills then that is your hint to avoid that area and the surrounding systems! Explore unsecured space. try and make the money back you payed for your cruiser and equipment and advance yourself with the help of your friends who hunt with you or the corp you joined....
Always try and have asmuch money in the bank as you payed for your ship plus equipment! Improve your skills, hone your tallents. Always keep your ship well insured! Getting a little bit of money when your ship gets blasted is better then getting nothing!
There may be times when a pirate pack will lock onto you and scramble you in every possible way and destroy your ship or worse your pod but...if you followed my tips youl have a few million in the bank after your ship was destroyed and youl be ready to buy a new one right away! The only thing youl lose is whatever was in your cargo...thats why i would say keep your looted stuff in the stations!
Pirates...although annoying and restraining dont have to be a gamekiller for you. Avoid them, fight them (if you can) or pay them randsom or passagefees. You have options and i think the best and safest option is to avoid them at any cost unless you cant avoid them in wich case youl have to fight or pay!
