care to explain?
And from wiki:
'On March 2, 2006 at 5:30 am an Ohio University police officer spotted a bicycle attached to the Oasis restaurant bearing a promotional sticker for the band. The officer saw the words, "This Bike Is a Pipe Bomb" and became concerned. The area was cordoned off, and part of the campus was closed for several hours. The bicycle was subsequently destroyed by the Athens bomb squad despite assurances from the bike's owner that it was just a sticker. The owner, a graduate student, was initially charged with inducing panic, a misdemeanor. However, the charges were dropped a few days later. Later the student was awarded money for the damages to his bicycle.[1][2]'
I'm sorry but thats stupid beyond comprehension

and then it turns out that "This Bike is a Pipe Bomb" is a band name and then i lol'd hard.
EDIT: The video is bloody ******ed. They call it a "device"? "Bicycle equipment?" ITS A BIKE!

While putting a sticker "This bike is a pipe bomb" on a bike isn't necessarily the smartest thing to do, it was a touch of an over-reaction. How many terrorists label their bombs as bombs when they leave them surreptitiously on street corners anyway? Maybe it's a new rule or something, they have to give people advance notice of any bombs 24 hours before they go off. -------------

Moral of the story: never utter the word "bomb" in an airport. Even written down. There's something about airports that makes people ultra-paranoid. ____________________

In the US at least it is actually illegal. If you joke to your wife, "Hey honey, did you pack the bomb?" while in an airport and security hears you expect to get arrested (not kidding). At the least you are going to miss your flight while they perform a cavity search on you. -------------------------------------------------- "Of course," said my grandfather, pulling a gun from his belt as he stepped from the Time Machine, "there's no paradox if I shoot you!"

simple i call this the mediocrity effect 1) after some mistakes some fat ass boss decide to make "rules"(protocols) and there are rules for everything (we can talk about same thing is on education health care ) 2) who dont follow the rules get kicked or something similar 3) ppl follow this rules brainless when you follow the rules you cant make mistakes if you follow the rules even if is a case like this is "i do my job" and i bet some boss said to that cop "good job"

so if i wear a t-shirt that say "i am a suicide bomber" that make me a suicide bomber ? so a suicide bomber wear a t-shirt like that ? when you put a bomb by logic you dont tell anyone about and you hide that in a way that police dont notice anything and them boom Somos universales, Pero andamos como el resto de los mortales, Ocultando nuestros miedos, Parece que no pero las guapas tambien se tiran pedos, Tambien los listos sumamos con los dedos.

I don't see what the big deal is. After a few days the police were like, 'shucks, we made a mistake... sowwy. Here is $20.' Big deal. That's a vast improvement considering all the stupid **** (patriot act, attacking a random country, airport security hysterics) the government did in response to an actual terrorist attack.

I believe the police took appropriate action. First off, he had a sticker on a bicycle that said it was a bomb at an AIRPORT! That is pretty much the same thing as calling in a bomb threat. Now would you take a chance and just leave it, thinking it is a joke, or call the bomb squad?
I don't think the guy should have gotten money for it, that is just plain dumb. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

Who would label a real explosive device?
And better yet why would they label it bomb?
Isn't the best approach to conceal.. hide and protect the bomb.. get it into its key location and then get to a safe distance and detonate it?

Yes, I read what it said, he had a sticker that said the bike was a bomb at an AIRPORT.
You do know that not all terrorist attacks are supposed to be covert, they are there to instill fear. That is why there are bomb threats.
If you think they overreacted, then just go to an airport and yell out loud "I AM THE BOMB!" Tell me how that turns out. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

This. The idea is that its better to take it seriously and have it turn out to be a mistake then to take it as a joke and have it turn out to be real. Its akin to going into a crowded theater and screaming FIRE, people are going to take it at face value. _______________

pipe bombs have been detonated before at university grounds there is nothing new in campus terrorism or the use of pipe bombs.
If that was a real device the officer had seen it and done nothing he would have lost his job then been criminally charged in lines with failure to do his duty.
As for the bicycle owner. What an idiot if I started plastering stickers saying that there are bombs I expect to be jailed having been prosecuted by a jury of my peers for good reason.
It's not paranoia if occasionally these things become true.

Obituary of "Common Sense"
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
Knowing when to come in out of the rain Why the early bird gets the worm Life isn't always fair Maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge.)
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Tylenol, sun lotion or a Band-Aid to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.
He is survived by his 3 stepbrothers: I Know My Rights, Someone Else Is To Blame, and I'm A Victim. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.
