Cynosural fields?
Theyre jump beacons for capital ships. In order for capital ships to move to another system someone else needs to generate a cynosural field for them. ---------------------------

wow, so cap ships can't just jump like normal ships, huh? Can they still dock at stations? Can other ships dock inside of them?

Normal capitals like dreads, carriers, capital industrials and freighters can dock inside stations. Carriersand capital industrials can store ships inside their maintenance bay but you cannot actually dock inside them.
Titans and motherships cannot dock and have a ship maintenance bay like carriers.
Orcas and Freighters are the only capital that can actually use normal jump gates. ---------------------------

Orcas aren't really capital ships, though. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

Orcas are sub-capital. The ingame description "Industrial Command-ship" fits much better. ---

Nah. The Orca is more of a sideways… cousin… thingamajig to the Exhumers: T2-like mining-ship prerequisites on top of some quick and easy leadership skills.
The common theme among all capships is the Advanced Spaceship Command skill — it's a prereq for the Capital Ships skill and for the Freighter skills. It's nowhere to be found for the Orca though, which rather requires the leadership skills you'd expect from a command ship… which is why it's classified as a Industrial Command Ship rather than a Capital Industrial Ship (which would put it on the same level as the Rorq).
Also, I'd say that the Rorq is a capship to a far greater extent than both Freighters and Jump Freighters. After all, it requires both the Capital Ships and the Capital Industrial skills — neither of which is necessary for the Freighter family. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |
