I went skiing with my High school today, for the first time ever, and I have to say I had a blast; I got the hang of it pretty quickly and did not fall nearly as much as I thought I would . It was funny though, because I went skiing in Pennsylvania and it was around forty (fahrenheit) today, so when I was on the slope I looked out and saw every other hill (there are not really mountains where we went,) covered in absolutely no snow. this is because the people running the ski operation have big machines that make snow. The one downside is as I sit here typing this my right foot is very sore .

Been skiing for over 20 years now. And sore feet is something that comes with the territory (the feeling of the blood coming back into your feet after an 8 hour day of skiing is divine). Although if it's just one foot it's probably due to poor fitting. That's the problem with rentals (or if you didn't test the boot properly before buying it).
I'd like to go to the rockies one day. The slopes are supposed to be great and the snow is supposedly somewhat airier and fluffier than the on that falls in the Scandinavians and the Alps. However I've heard the skiing culture makes even the scandinavian seem uplifting.
P.S: Been all over Europe. Nothing beats Tirol when it comes to skiing. Other places might have better slopes, but the liftsystem is generally better planned in Tirol, and the in-slope restaurants are simply more plentiful and superior in class. ______________________________________________ -My respect can not be won, only lost. I almost got impaled by a branch on a fallen tree skiing down a hill in Illinois about 16 years ago. Someone coming up from behind clipped me on their way down and me being inexperienced at skiing I sort of veered off the ski route into the trees. Slammed stomach-first into this fallen tree and just sort of laid on it for awhile. When I recovered I realized this thick, pointy branch had partially torn through my outer jacket on my right side. Near-death experience lol

Edited by: Xelios on 18/02/2009 14:46:13 Heh I picked up skiing on a high school ski trip too . Been skiing since then, though I don't get out nearly as often as I'd like. Since I moved to Germany I try to make a trip to Austria at least once a year for skiing, but I had to leave my skis in Canada so I'm forced to use rentals now
And the Rockies are amazing. Banff, Alberta is definitely a place you want to visit if you like skiing, though with the warm winters we've had the past few years the snow isn't nearly as nice as it used to be.

I'm 21 and this is my 15th season as a skiier ^^. Fun stuff, but you should see what it looks like from the top of a real mountain. I'd show you some pics off the top of Killington, VT off my mother's photobucket account but they "conveniently" went down for maintainance 30 seconds ago. _______________

I asked a few people last time I was in Iceland about skiing in Iceland.
They say that they have slopes. But I thought that they were joking .
I have been skiing for about 8 years now. It rocks

I used to be a xcountry skier. When I was a teen, I did endurance races, 40, 60, even 100km. I say I used to be, since I've not lived anywhere with snow in several years.
Help me move to Iceland!

who needs skiing when you can snowboard. you need to wait untill later in the day untill you snowboard because if you fall it can hurt. but nothing beats wiping out spectacularly in soft snow. sure, you don't shoot down the snow as fast but snowboards going slower just prolongs the fun, and with a snowboard it is easier to scoop up snow and throw it at the skiiers or other snowboarders. ------------------------------------- My other alt is a Ferrari |

Whistler rocks! I live 1.5 hrs from there and am embarassed to say that I only get 10 days of skiing in each year. RL and a 2 yr old really put a crimp in the skiing.
Once she turns 3 then we can put a helmet on her and just point her down hill. Then I'll be again.

Once upon a time, I made a deal with myself, which was to 'never take a gf who couldn't ski or board already' - so far I've been able to hold true to it.
