Originally by: Tobin Shalim Sounds like the devs (who have far more characters in Goons than BoB) have planned this at quite a questionable time period. Right now, this change will benefit Goons and harm BoB as they're the ones defending. I have to wonder if the dev that came up with this idea isn't himself a Goon.
I am going to make this as clear as I possibly can:
UPON THE RELEASE OF APOCRYPHA IT IS PLANNED TO ONLY HAVE LOCAL IN DELAYED MODE WITHIN WORMHOLE SPACE.
For this I will buy you beer.

be patient young one. The day the local dies will come
And it will be the same day the game dies.

Originally by: CCP Laurelle Really, this is obvious. Everyone knows there are no subspace communication beacons in wormhole space..
Yes, because backstory is a good way to balance a game

Try "any thread where the issue of local has been discussed in rational terms, ever". I don't have the time to dig them up unfortunately.
I see a few where as many as a dozen previously unheard from posters claimed they would quit if this were implemented.
If that's not rigorous scientific proof then I don't see how anyone can't fly home on a banana-powered unicorn.

Originally by: Razin Is the on-board directional scanner (not the probe scanner) getting any updates in functionality or interface?
This will happen just after drones are fixed.

Yeah, the devs made this decision with no thought whatsoever. What's unbalanced about it, Goon- what do you know about how the innards of W-Space work? It's not like they're removing local from Empire and Sovereign nullsec.
Rational thought and constructing payout matrices is not difficult. Once you've done that its pretty basic algebra.
I don't doubt they have thought about it, though, like many of the other decisions they have come up with, and many of the conclusions many of you have come up with, the thought was poor.
Good job they added a whole chunk of extra space to test the hypothesis out in eh.
Experiential evidence > "payout matrices", after all...

Originally by: Neesa Corrinne I'm extremely disappointed that this will only be in W space. One of the few things keeping me playing EVE in its current "nerf anything that can harm a carebear in the slightest manner" state was the the thought that local would be moved to delayed mode with the upcoming patch.
Yet another win for the non-consensual PvP haters. Yay.
Well it's a start and a good start - 2500 out of ~7500 is a pretty big proportion to test the change on I reckon.

Originally by: Becq Starforged I think it will be fantastically funny when they remove local from nullsec and highsec and gankbears have to use the new triangulation-based probing system just to find out if any targets are present, let alone where they are...
Yeah, it's almost as if this change will give a strong relative advantage to quick thinking, skillfull players.

1. How will a PvE group differ from a PvP group in W-space?
It wont differ that much. The problem is the pvp group only has to engage WHEN IT KNOWS IT WILL WIN. If the pve group is well set up and has too many ships for the gankers, they just move on.
Originally by: Tippia
2. How does the gank squad determine if it's a PvE group?
A pve group will be ratting, a pvp group will be cloaked and wont show up on scan anyway. If you mean a PvE group could really be a pvp group baiting, the gankers will have plenty of time to check them out and decide to attack or not.
Originally by: Tippia
3. How does the gank squad determine the size of the group?
A good recon will have all the enemy shiptypes in system within a few seconds. From that info they make their decision on whether to gank or not.
Originally by: Tippia
4. How does the gank squad avoid getting counter-ganked by those friends?
As I said all they have to do is a bit of straight forward recon and just stay cloaked and move on. No risk.
CCP have already said that ratting sleepers will not be a solo activity. "A good recon" will obviously be part of a successful ratting gang...

But if it's safe, mindless PvE you're looking for don't go to Sleeper space. End of Discussion.
