If they do everything people say they do short of warping out, then will best gang to take into w-space consist of a dozen passive omnitanked Onyx's?
Pros: -No cap use -Monster tank + cruiser sig radius -Decent sensor strength
Cons: -Crappy dps -Potential problems resupplying with ammo
Let's hear your ideas for the best gang to bring against the Sleeper menace. -- Eventus stultorum magister. |

It's a caldari, so it will never have a cruiser sig radius.
Why not just bring drakes? Cheaper and likely better.

Drakes are decent, but their tank is weak compared to the Onyx. You can tank a level 5 in an Onyx with only t2 gear, you can't do that with a Drake. -- Eventus stultorum magister. |

your main problem here is that you're using caldari ships

looking at what has been posted already.
Amarr will rule w/s,
t1 crystals no expiry, and fitted cap independent, in other words a ship that doesn't require charges to be reloaded. only need to carry various ranging crystals.
This is if you get lost in space, then running out of charges will suck....
Otherwise a cloaked orca with a good tank, to sit in ss and carry charges and fittings for reloads/ repairs for the nominated gang, sort of like loading up the pack mule for a long journey.

Paladin/Kronos, Rook, Curse - with a Blockade runner or ideally an Orca for ammo, cap charges and salvage. The Orca allows the recons to be replaced with cov ops, Falcon and Pilgrim or interceptors when required.

Wormholes have limited capacity, bringing an orca is maybe not the best way to spare the wormhole to be able to come back home later the same way... -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

Edited by: Jmanis Catharg on 19/02/2009 08:57:53 Edited by: Jmanis Catharg on 19/02/2009 08:56:44 My idea was actually a dozen or so assault frigates.
- Mostly speed tanked (NPCs generally don't handle speed tank well) - High resists - Bang for buck (about 400 mil for pretty decent fits but does lots more DPS than, say, 3 ravens) - Neuters any cruiser/BS NOS usage. Frigs should fall under the heavy punch with good squad coord. - AI (in terms of picking primaries) made redunant by the fact it's a dozen similar targets. Means the AI *might* spread it's damage out, means less DPS to tank. - Whole squad fits in one orca ---

Edited by: Arthur Frayn on 19/02/2009 09:31:24 Remember that the Sleepers will be using neuts and nos. I think they'll tear amarr ships in half. Passive tank is the way to go. Remove cap dependency and you remove one of their weapons against you. -- Eventus stultorum magister. |

Ibis.
Don't underestimate it.
Ideally you'd want something like an Onyx or a Drake, but with one gang member acting as a logistics ship to supply ammo and combat repair.
A basilisk with a.. relatively eclectic fit will provide this to an extent.
What will suck, is if you can't split the groups of these ships - then you start playing a WoW Dungeon in space, and you'll need to enter w-space with a "Tank", "Healer" and "DPS" Ships.
I don't really wanna have to do that really.

The sleepers will use the new NPC AI, which will be able to switch targets, so i would not bet on logistic ships.

i'm told the rats are massacring faction tanked rattelsnakes at the moment, but you can speed tank them.
so ****loads of ishkurs, orbiting at speed letting their drones s-l-o-o-o-w-l-y peck the rats to death.

would it not work to use your own nos against them to counter theirs? ~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |

Anyone else getting a vibe that these new rats seem a leeetle bit too tough to kill, or is W-Space all about taking like.. oh I don't know, 10 or 25 ships into it so it's possible?
Harhar.
The part I hate most is that the damn near impossibility of it, and the fact you need so many gang members... just means that T3 is going to cost waaaay more than most of us can afford.
But hey, I'm just whining because I only have 44m to my name atm.

Actually it does work, but not in the same way as it does vs player ships.

Sleepers, as they are now... have almost instalock + they web stuff to oblivion = dead drones. Small drones usually survive the first alpha strike with <50% hull left, mediums/heavies die instantly.

Well, it's early days yet - and it's not even on TQ yet.
I imagine people said similar things about L5 missions when they were first introduced.

Probably best to wait and see how it goes...
I can tell I'm going to have to buy a ton of GTCs to afford a decent ship to fly into W-Space though... not really looking forward to that element.
Oh and L5's fail really, they aren't worth the money to run considering what little you get out of them compared to the number of ships you need.
Was kinda hoping some W-Space encounters would be a solo affair, (for no where near as much potential isk obviously) but.. you know, as something other than L4s.
