Originally by: 9axle You are missing my point. I accept that piracy is part of the game. But it is still theft, the strong preying on the weak. As prey, I do not have a problem using whatever is available to stay alive. If CCP sees fit to close this loophole, so be it, I won't complain. But I have had enough ransoms dishonored(1 was enough to insure I will never pay another) and been podded enough that I think a pirate talking about honor is a joke. If this is how the game works, than why not use it, it is a mechanic like can flipping, allowed, but not honorable. I am not some carebear complaining about some dirtbag blowing up my empty hauler and podding me, that is the risk of flying through .4, but by the same token, a pirate doesn't deserve my stuff for free, and I will do what I have to preserve it. If I could destroy my ship and cargo, ensuring a pirate got nothing,I would do that instead.
There are many dishonourable things in the game, but these are within the purview of the game mechanics. Logoffski is an exploit, albeit one that hasn't been closed. Now I'm not a pirate, but when I see a war target do this because he's blundered into the wrong area, it annoys the hell out of me. As someone has already stated, it's the equivalent of throwing the game to one side in a fit of tantrum and bawling because you can see you're going to lose.
It doesn't save you, either. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes you get hunted down in your safe spot and get podded anyway. I've managed to catch up with people before like this, only for them to have the temerity of smacking in local because their cheating didn't work.
You can justify it to yourself by saying "they would do the same to me", but that is lowering yourself to their level, which then invalidates any claim you have to the moral high ground. You cannot deride pirates for being dishonourable if you use dishonourable tactics yourself. At best, it puts you on an even level.
To the OP, it was the first time you've done it, and you didn't know the strength of feeling behind this particular issue, but be warned that people do take exception to this 'metagaming'. People also tend to remember your name and go that little bit further to hunt you down next time. They might pod you, whereas they might have let your pod escape before.
You will lose ships, but as long as you learn from each loss, you'll become a better pilot, and losses will be less frequent. I've lost a lot of ships over the years, and sometimes to really stupid decisions, but you live and learn. If you keep using the logoffski tactic, you're essentially rolling a dice on your survival, whereas by learning, you can avoid getting caught entirely.
On the plus side, this doesn't happen quite as often now. I think people have started to learn that it doesn't guarantee their survival and have adapted to using in-game methods of survival.
