How was that insulting? It was courteous to give the person a reasonable expectation. If he said "Deal with it looser", That would be insulting. Just because its not garnished with pleasantries and rainbows, doesn't make it impolite.
I would suggest quite the opposite is true. Avons initial question was totaly without forethought or malice. The response, was at best curt, and at worst rude. It was certainly heavily laced with sarcasm.
I understand the Dev is probably stressed due to the workload of this pre patch time, and I understand he was probably hacked off with people refering to blue bar posts as fact for the next 6 months, but to argue his response was "courteous" as you do is a little weak.
I struggle to recall any time I have heard the phrase "deal with it" in real life discussion when it was not intended to be a little agressive. Perhaps this usage was first time.. i dont know. Either way - a reminder of the forum rules is good for all readers to enable them to comport oneself in the correct manner - to ensure this forum remains a pleasent and informative place for us all.
My point was, in these times where the forum rules are examined in incredible detail as justification for what has been termed as the "recent clamp down", and one looks to the devs for a lead in acceptable posting behaviour - it is important the devs do not leave themselves open to accusations of breaking the very same rules
The forums - together we can clean them(tm)

I quite agree with that. As you can see in the details off topic posts are not prohibited, if posted within reason.
I would suggest that striving to achieve the goal of forum utopia with a friendly but timely reminder of the rules is by is ON topic for all posts.
The very fact people are quoting the dev in their signatures (further spreading the possible rot) suggests my timely post was right on the button!
I think the rules you quote are intended to quash people inanely posting "my cat has just eaten its dinner - it had meato chunks" in the middle of a thread.

I would say curt and to the point rather than rude. The devs are stressed but I don't think it has anything to do with the stress. This is an issue that has been raised over and over, every time a dev makes a response people think they are quoting law. What Whiper said has been repeated over and over so many times, I think it's getting annoying for the devs to have to say it every time. This is one of the prime reasons many games forums don't have devs replying. I would hope that a few people using this quote from Whisper in their sig will remind people not to take a dev comment as the final word unless it is stated as such. I also hope that this will be added to the forum rules sticky. Notice that Whispers first post only said that it "should run the premium lite client" and not that it would. In this case he was unsure of the results. Not every possible combination of hardware can be tested so it's not known if the new client will run just as well as the original classic on every machine, some may fail.

I actually wanted to point out the idiocy of the engine names. To have a "Premium" you need to have something that isn't "Premium"; if you only have "Premium" and no benchmark then all you actually have is just "standard". Naming the engines "Premium" and "Premium Lite[sp]" makes you look like fools, or people that think your customers are fools.
The Devs must cringe at what Marketing do to all their hard work. :/ -- 99% of Eve-o posters should stop posting. This probably includes me, but definitely includes you. |

This thread has really degraded but, I just wanted to say:
I have a laptop with a crappy GFX card and was concerned about premium lite, I have to say I am very impressed with what they have done on sisi right now with premium lite. It started out rough, but after todays patch I'm getting great premium graphics, and very little lag.

Deal With ItGäó - I'm so going to use that when somebody is whining. Oh.. going offtopic now.
So yeah, if you can't run the Lite Premium you must have a very very very very old computer. Buy a new or Deal With ItGäó

The road to damascas my friend. The great forum book of rules was laid down from on high for our protection and emancipation- and I believe every poster has a duty to abide by these rules to the best of their ability.
When this ability falls short, and they fall foul of temptation, the community must not stand idly by - for rot unchecked spreads.
The great CCP Fallout took my upon his knee, and with great patience bore my tantrums and with time and love brought me to the light. Like the prodigal son I was embraced, in return i was only tasked with maintaining a constant vigil on the forums, to intervene when the first seeds of rule breaking are sown.
Such as CCP Whispers comments.
I seek only to bring others to the light, be they
Devs or Noobs.
Carebears or Pirates.
Goonswarm or sensible posters.
I love the forums, I love the moderators, and I love all of the posters who dwell here (even minigin).
Together, we can clean these forums. In your honor ExLegion I have decided to decapitalise my sign off - as i felt it was to aggressive when in capitals. Instead I opted to surround my name in the most humble of text decorations.... italics.

Originally by: osahar 1) Can I play with classic client after the mar 10th?
After the launch of Apocrypha the classic graphics client will not be supported.
Originally by: osahar 2) Does Intel Mobile 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express support Premium Lite client (I have directx 9 installed)?
As far as I can make out, that Intel Mobile chipset was equipped with the GMA 900 graphics chipset. That chipset does not appear to support Shader Model 2.0 and therefore will not run the EVE Online client post-Apocrypha. You can however test for this:
Originally by: osahar Is there somekind of Pixel Shader2 test program around?
You could try running the basic, free version of 3DMark05.
Originally by: osahar does premium lite have the same requirements as the classic client?
No, it does not. It requires at least a Shader Model 2.0 compatible graphics chipset.
Apologies if my previous response in this thread was somewhat curt. Hopefully this response is more helpful.

According to this link, the GMA 900 does actually support Shader Model 2.0.
"It supports DirectX 9.0 with Shader Model 2.0 (Vertex Shader are calculated in Software - by the CPU) and OpenGL 1.4. Furthermore, the chip is able to accelerate the decoding of MPEG2 videos and supports Motion Compensation. "

Actually, according to this the GMA 900 does support shader 2.0.
I have linked this elsewhere on the forums and, as far as I'm aware, the older 8-series GMA chipsets are SM 1.0 only. ===================================== It smells of spoon! ===================================== |

Your 2nd post was a bit of a climb down.

Just go upgrade your machines you pansies. The market could use it now anyway. It doesn't really make a ton of sense to continue to support a product that runs on archaic machines when there's a richer market for modern technology.
CCP has always said they want Eve to evolve and change with time. It sucks some people could be left behind that don't have the means to upgrade to play, but if this happens just sit the game out for a handful of months. Save your subscription money and use it for the upgrade that will get you back in game.
Life is simple, it's the people that make it complicated.
Destroy all that which is evil, so that which is good may flourish. |
