Edited by: Zak Nova on 19/02/2009 18:42:39 This isn't a flaming thread, just a list of suggestions. I've been on EVE for a few months now and I just dont find it fun. It's a cool game but lacking in many ways and appears more as "work" than fun. I also found some old articles that share some of the same frustrations I experienced.
http://www.lunaran.com/page.php?id=157
Gripes: Gate camping should be illegal. There should be a time limit a person can hangout at a gate. If you pass the time limit, the gate will automatically warp you to the other side and ping pong you back and forth if you loiter on the other side of the gate again.
Skill Training: They are ridiculously long. So you want me to pay $14.95 a month so I can train a skill to level 5 when the skill takes 25 days or longer to complete? Im paying you for waiting not playing.
Make it worth my time.
- For one, you should be able to train skills on all three of your alts simultaneously. Right now, you can only train one character at a time. -Second, when you finish training a skill, you have to be there to select the next one. Why not just allow the player to make a list of skills to be trained so they begin immediately after a skill has finished training. Call them skill waypoints. -Levels: Why just 5 levels of training? Allow for an infinite amount of levels with each level taking longer and longer to train. So what if level 10 takes 365 days or level 20 takes 2 years to complete. If a player is willing to wait that long then they deserve the benefits of that level.
Bounty Hunting: The bounty system is seriously flawed and what makes it so is the jump clone option. If I place a billion ISK bounty on someone, all that person has to do is find someone to kill them and they split the loot when his clone comes around. Jump clones are a bad idea and should be done away with all together. What more, financial and trade transactions should be banned between the bounty collector (the killer) and the bounty victim (kill-ee) for say 45 days if not longer.
Courier Contracts: The courier contact system is flawed. Nothing worse than accepting a contract to transport goods into low-sec, only to find out that you cant dock at the station or have to pay to dock. Some of the collateral prices are ridiculously high as well. Seems people almost want you to lose their stuff as they will make out better if you do. Just set a limit of collateral to either the region average for that item(s) or what the player originally paid for the item(s) himself.
-Courier contracts also need a capacity (m3) filter as well as a low-sec delivery filter option too.
A player should be able to re-contract a courier contract without these limits: -Presently you have to land at the station to be able to do this. -There is a problem with ships acting as containers. You cant re-contract a contract containing a ship with items in them.
Graphics: Stars dont twinkle in space. They also tend to be more numerous and smaller with a few bright spots for the stars that are closer to you. It would add to the realism. Gas giant planets tend to have swirling spots on them, not just bands. Like the big red spot on Jupiter. Where are the known elements of space like black holes (not worm holes). Nuetron stars, pulsars, and the occasional super-nova? CPP needs an astrophysicist as well as an economist on their team. Lots of weird stuff out in space to explore.
Market: OK, so you can view ALL the contracts for ALL the regions, but you can only view the market details for the region you are in at the time? Have the option to be able to see the market values for all regions, but allow for transaction only in the region you are in. This would help traders tremendously.
Also, There is no stock market in EVE. What I mean is there is no scrolling ticker or ability to buy and sell shares centrally. There is a complete field of stock brokerage being ignored that can be a profitable business. |

Edited by: Zak Nova on 19/02/2009 19:00:05 Edited by: Zak Nova on 19/02/2009 18:59:33 Mining: Mining is lacking because you really dont need to mine anymore. Just melt the loot you collect from ratting. Do away with the reprocess of already manufactured items. That will give the mining industry a boost.
Blueprints: OK, so we have the technology for jump clones and interstellar travel, but we cant reverse engineer an item to create a blueprint?
Corporate Taxes: Any financial gain a corporate member makes should be taxed. Not just for some activities or over a certain amount.
Character changes: You cant change your character's appearance or name. Why? I don't know. You can always have a history made of what your character used to look like or was named if need be. Likewise you cant change corporate names. It happens in the real world...why not on eve. Again a history can be kept if needed.
These are just a few things I hope will change.
I'll check out EVE again a year from now...and see if it has changed any. But my last word is...it's just not fun...and I already have a job.

The key to their success is entertaining the customer. They need to create a universe to their customer's liking, not just to their development team's liking. CCP is after all...a business.
Although many die-hard EVE fans may disagree with me. But that is where game-worship comes into play. For some, EVE is a lifestyle.

While I personally find gate camping lame I must admit I do not get this one. Gate camps are EASY to avoid with just a little common sense.

This is the single DUMBEST thing I have ever heard. You pay them to WAIT? WAIT FOR WHAT!? You serious must lack imagination to not be able to find ways to have fun in EVE at EVERY skill level.

To your first comment I ask you, if you are playing your dwarf all the time in a fantasy game, does your elf alt gain any experience? Of coruse not, becasue NO game I am aware of allows you to advance two characters on the same account at the same time, NONE OF THEM! The implimentation may be different but the result is the SAME!

I will agree here, the mining segment, in fact the entire Tech 1 industrial segment needs a rework. I have a serious tiff going about how much attention is put into combat and yet the economy, one of the BIG selling points of the game, gets only token efforts. However even with the limits currently in place it is still way ahead of other games.
I am not gonna bother with the rest of your comments because they are quite literally nothing but flame bait. The majority of your complaints are useless and meaningless, a few points you hit on do need work but when tied to the LUNACY of the rest of your post they get lost.

He's right on this. You may not train two toons simultaneously on other mmos but there is no mmo that takes that long for you to reach end-game.
Even for the most hardcore mmos, you reach end-game within a month. And you can have multiples toons at endgame levels at that time.
Though, the paradox is that you have 3 slots and 2 of them are useless. Only that suffices as an argument. And don't tell me that you got the extra slots to buy chars. The extra slots should be for you to try more professions. But yeah, that means less money for CCP, so it's bad bad bad.

Can I have your... aww, crap. Too late!
1) Yes, it is a "flaming thread" 100%. Usually when someone starts a sentence with "Not to be insulting" or "Don't take this the wrong way" they are usually about to say something insulting which could be taken any number of wrong ways.
Gate Camping - Otherwise known as an "Ambush", and is a perfectly acceptable tactic for modern warfare. You be sure to tell the terrorists who "camp" a stretch of road and wait for a passing HMMWV. Be sure to mention this whole time limit before moving along idea, they'll love it.
Skill Training - Is being very slowly addressed at the moment. The problem which CCP is attempting to avoid, is players using 1 character, and selling the other 2 for billions of ISK. Take a look in the forum for selling characters. A simple Hulk pilot, who couldn't even sit in their own races' frigate, still goes for more than 2bil most days. So the ability to mass produce any number of characters would only detract from people actually learning how to play the game. You'd just find a ton of eBay characters with no idea how to Fit, Tank, or basically operate the ships they "inherited".
Bounty Hunting - Does need addressed. Currently, it's little more than epeen for Pirates . "Look at me! I'm worth 500mil!" And whenever they're down on their luck and need some cash, they kill off a blank clone and collect their 500mil.
Courier Contracts - Also need addressed. There's been any number of threads bounced about discussing alternatives. Currently, you can be asked for 500mil in Collateral, to take a Freighter full of merchandise across 50 Low/Null Sec jumps, and collect 3.50ISK upon delivery. Obvious trap aside, there should be some ratio of Cargo m3/Collateral/Reward other than player selected.
Graphics - "Stars don't twinkle"? Perhaps that's because there's no atmosphere in space? And I'd love for you to further enlighten us with your astronomical knowledge of how many Gas Giants you've personally visited to confirm these spots? However, I will agree wholeheartedly, that EVE is a "space game" with very little "space" stuff in it. I'd love to see black holes, interactive nebulae, mineral rich comets, etc. Again, a very common thread.
Market - Knowing the prices throughout the known galaxy wouldn't affect matters much. Given that people will often pay a higher price for an item in their own station, than they would undock and head to even another station in the same system... I can't imagine that many would fly several regions, wasting game time that could be earning them ISK, just to save a little on some module. Sure, there may be times, but not many.
Mining - No one ever said that Mining had to be enjoyable. Ask some of the grubby faced folks who drive teeny tiny carts in underground shafts, or even the worn out haul trucks who drive the same stretch of road for endless hours. But it's a relatively simple and easy to perform task that brings you ISK. If you happen to have found other means, that doesn't imply that your prior professions should be completely erased from the servers. You're not the only player.
Blueprints - Reverse Engineering? You mean the pivotal skill necessary to make T3? That one?
Taxes - If you feel that some people aren't donating as much as they should... do what the IRS does. Make them file every year. Collect more from those who owe, and reimburse those who have overpaid.
Character Changes - This I can also agree with. It'd be nice to change names now and then, even for a fee. Other games seem to have dealt with it easy enough. I can't imagine changing a database value to a "forwarding address" until the old name is reused would be too hard to manage.
All in all... I'd say that you've summed up a lot of pretty common complaints and suggestions. Only now you've made a fool of yourself by saying "I don't like it. So I'm leaving" --- Don't take my ranting personally. I may just be arguing the topic, unless you're saying something stupid, and then I mean every word. "Players don't want Variety. They want THE BEST" |

Obviously you haven't had to try and defend your alliance's space, have you? Have you ventured out of high-sec? Have you seen how other people play the game besides the mission runners and miners of high-sec? Doubtful with this comment.
Quote: Skill Training: They are ridiculously long. So you want me to pay $14.95 a month so I can train a skill to level 5 when the skill takes 25 days or longer to complete? Im paying you for waiting not playing.
Make it worth my time.
You still fail to see the entire game. Eve isn't a short term MMO. Eve is a long term investment. It's one of the reasons why the Dev's won't delete inactive accounts. They know that there is a good chance that someone will come back, hoping to pick up where they left off.
Quote: - For one, you should be able to train skills on all three of your alts simultaneously. Why not just allow the player to make a list of skills to be trained so they begin immediately after a skill has finished training. Call them skill waypoints.
As already said, no other MMO allows you to train more than one character on the same account at the same time, so why should Eve be different? Because it doesn't have an end-game? pfffff go back to WoW.

This seems a bit hypocritical of your other gripe about skill training. You don't have to train a skill to level 5. The majority of skills can be trained from lvl 1 to lvl 4 in less than a week. So in effect you are following your own advice and *****ing about it by training level 5 skills...hmmm makes you ponder sometimes doesn't it?

I will agree with this statement "Bounty hunting is broken" but not with any of the reasons that you posted.

Couriers work as intended. Although most of them are scams. You have to do your research and that research will lead you to some good contracts if you know what you are doing.

Graphics are fine. Be glad that the stars in the game line up with the systems in the map. It wasn't this way a year or so ago. Black holes and super-nova's aren't as prevalent as you are trying to make them out to be. Most systems have some sort of evidence of a super nova explosion. Remember this isn't the Milky Way that we are in. Who really knows how often these events happen in New Eden.

No it wouldn't...it would break the market by bringing prices across regions to the same price and would kill off trading as a profession. Your limited experience is starting to show... ------------------------------------

Again, Eve is a long term investment and your identity follows you everywhere. That's one of the good things about the game is that if you have invested a lot of time, the chances of you running off with a corp hangar full of stuff is lower than if you could change your name every time that you did so. Eve isn't like the real world so comparisons to it are void.
You start sounding like an alt the longer the thread gets. You should really get out of high-sec and see the rest of the game. ------------------------------------

Some good points amongst all that lot, but some of them do actually define EVE in many respects.
Id certainly agree on the Bounty Hunter thing, to a certain extent with regard to skills (although you really dont need most skills to V). Interesting to see the points of a newer player.

for what it's worth, that's one of the most constructive "leave posts" ever. Decent suggestions on the whole - apart from the gate camp one, unless it can be engineered to allow people to be caught in space (away from stations, gates, belts) and, more importantly, give them a reason for being there (apart from safe spotting).
Skill training - It would be nice to throw alts gametime (plex?) to allow them to train alongside mains on the same account - after all skill training your main is an arms race but ccp should reasonably be allowed to profit from such activity.
couriers - don't have a lot of experience with this but the risk/reward always seemed out of whack - an insurance option for private contracts should be made available.
graphics - can't fault them
market - plenty of web-based browsers available to check out.
and no... I don't want your stuff come back soon though.

I got som answers for ya!
Skills Thy are time based to inforce patiance and reduce the profit level for toon farmers, aswell as cutting out the requirement to grind.
The limit... If there was no lvl 5 limit we'd see even less new players sating due to the biggest players would nly get better. The Idea is that if someone spends enough time speccing he can catch up to the 1337's thats been here since launch (in what ever field he specs)
The Que... CCP is introducing a (short term) skill que that you can set up to 50 skills (for a 24Hr period)
Gate camping It would make 0.0 open to anyne who wanted to fly thought it. The only way to really defend your system is to camp it. People who have earned there space have the right to defend it!
Graphics It's a bloody game for crying out loud! And If ou'd care to have a look back to some of the older videos you'd see that CCP have made massive improvements since there first release :P
Bounty hunting You could never stop someone from cashing in on there own bounty, they would just bounce the cash off an alt!
If they were to change it they would make that only registered bounty hunters could claim bounties... Like agent missions you would go to the bounty office and select the pirate you want to track down (much like RL bounty hunters) your ability to sign up for bounty hunting jobs would be dependant on sec stats and standings with the region involved. I'd probly have that a Pirate can see them flagged red when the bounty hunter warps in.
Market The market is fine, if everyone could see all the prices everywhere they would always go for the cheapest (some hubs are close to other regions) and it would do away with all trade spec chars! Who have invsted SP so that there orders are nearer the top even if there not the cheapest.
Curier contracts It's impossible to stop Pirates from trying to lure a carebear into there camp with scam contracts, its part of the game and only real morons fall for it more than once! Also you dont really need a filter the contract has all the info you need, just research the route before you accept it.
Jump clones Jump clones are balanced you can only do it once per 24Hr's and to create one in empire you need bloody high standings! They wrk well for empires that work in multiple regions, meaning if you need to hurry and get back to your fleet to help defend your space. They even leave your implants in one piece, But they are 24Hr's away from being used after the jump... so there is complete balance.

So right.
As for my stuff...it's spoken for. About 1 billion in ISK and another billion in assets. Forgot to mention my collection of BPO's?
Anyway, another reason why I'm leaving.....you people. It sucks playing with a bunch of narrow minded, immature EVE-fan-boys that can't stand the idea of an improvement, critique or change in the game.
Then there are those CCP apologist: OH GAWWWD!!! You would think CCP is run from someone's basement.
Get real people. I posted some suggestions, that's all. Comparing EVE to other MMOG is also stupid. EVE is supposed to be different...not the same old crap with a space theme. You also failed to look at the date of the link I posted. It's 2006 and alot of the same issues are mentioned. EVE definitely has a strong fan base (I know a guy that has been playing since beta---has skills that are no longer available), but you want to make it attractive to new members too right?
Too soon for me to quit? Yeah..perhaps, but I just don't feel like waiting to train 25 days so I can fly my new ship. I'm tired of the same old repeating missions. There is no AI. The agents praise you for completing a mission then don't even know you the next sentence around. They eve-mail you for an important faction standing storyline mission then once it's completed, they wont talk to you again without a reference?
Rats are dumb as bricks too. You may be tanked and mining happily, but the stupid rat keeps hitting you even though it's not making your shields budge. How about going away and getting re-enforcements or even better...just go away when you see you cant do any damage to me. Where's the challenge in that?
CCP needs to pause, and instead of thinking about future in station walking/combat, or wormholes or graphics, and think more on what they already have and how to improve it.
Like I said, I'll check it out again a year later if not sooner...but from the sounds of it, doubt things will change much. And the reason being?
You guys allow it by being die-hard fans...and CCP knows it. $$$$$$ ____________________________________________________________ Nova Shipping and Freight Corporation |

This would be your problem.
Firstly as I say alot you need to accept eve for what it is before you start "demanding" major changes
however to your first post.
Gate camps are a major part of PVP i suggest you try it sometime it's actually quite fun.
Skill training you want to specialize in an area simple.
training on 3 of your alts?.... people would then have 3 characters in which they could use to scam/ harrash people.... i'd rather they pay for that...
Bounty Hunting is and has always been flawed your right.
Courier is the same but it work within alliance and corps and other business ways.
Graphics ... have you not noticed the ships are prettyyyyyyy?
Full Access Market is because then local markets in regions would not exist.
Mining works better in 0.0 with the new industrial cap and sub cap.
Blueprints has been discussed before but i doubt it will ever happen.
Corporate taxes work well how they are I see no problem with them.
Character changes etc would just be stupid as your trying to find someone unless you know their character I.D. you'd not be able to find them again. Also people wouldn't show loyalty to a name if you could change it esto presto.
Rats are getting smarter but to be fair you'd be completely ruined if rats got much smarter on some of the complexe's & missions that require logistical support.
Leaving - Bye sorry eve's not for you.
Fanboys..... there are some however your link and your own ideas are just the stubborn unwilling to adapt, many people I've played with other the years do 1 of 3 things, Adapt, Love, Hate.
If you do come back to eve I do suggest you try pvp as I assume you too the easy carebear route judging from your hate of gatecamps and skill training.
Good luck and fly safe o/

Say, where are the aliens?
I mean...where is the mysterious alien presence that everyone knows about, but no one really knows anything of. The sections of alien space where you venture to never to come back, or even better...black out only to find yourself waking up in your ship floating in Empire space with a vague memory of being on an examination table.
The ominous presence that only shows itself occasionally when raiding your section of space to steal your resources.
Anyhoo...this is an angle that CCP could really milk. Everyone loves a mystery.

PS: EVE is my first MMOG experience. I dont care for fantasy based games. I prefer the sci-fi theme.
Shuttle and rig bpos are only like 100k each, nothing to showoff about.

I agree with you on many things, however, I can see how some things are more reasonable to fix/adjust/implement than others.
Gate camping could probably be dealt with using CONCORD as a sort of policiary that gives a gate party a certain time limit and then tells them to scatter, the larger (more ships) in the party the lesser time you get to hang, before CONCORD prepare for action. A few ships might even be ignored.
Skill training would probably be harder to deal with. Part of the "boon" about having played for a longer period of time, is that you have ships that short term players can't get.
The list of skills for a 24 hour training period IS coming! (They ARE listening. :)
I agree with the market range, it should be like the contracts, or at least so that you could "search"/select a region and view it, because I can see why doing ALL would be ridiculous.

Zak,
I have played the game for 6 months and then decided to leave for pretty much the same reasons. About 8 months after, my friend invited me into 0.0 alliance (Sparta GÇô now closed). That was about 2 years ago.
Turns out that all of the problems that you mentioned are linked to high sec. My advise is find a 0.0 holding corp and try out PVP. If you still donGÇÖt like it this game really is not made for you.

Oh.....you are sooooo clever. Comparing a game to a car....how did you ever come up with that?
Here's some advice: get over yourself.
The man is simply stating things that can use improvement and how he would rather not spend his money on what he doesn't enjoy, but some of you losers come across like he just insulted your mother.
Try getting a real life besides a cyber one.

Edited by: Vall Kor on 21/02/2009 05:06:45 I agree with some of your points.
Gate camping in low sec with smart bombs is re.tarded, if a "large" missile can not hit a small ship well with it's explosion then a smart bomb should suffer the same effects. So yea reduce smart bombs damage by 90% against a frigate at speed like they did with missiles, and watch the tears flow.
EVE is the only game where you don't have to play to advance your character. Not too sure how to fix the training to make it some what interactive. My wife was totally turned off by the playing for hours and not getting any where at the end of the night. I disagree with training on alts, but then what's the point of alts? If you're playing an alt you can't advance. I guess alts are intended to be used for scams and smack on the forums, bad design but whatever.
EVE does have a lot of room for improvement but it's still a great game.

Alright, I'll bite.
I don't see any particular validity in many of your points, because your ideas for making the game better appear to be designed to reward the unwary and the unwilling.
There are definitely areas where the game could use improvement, but you'd get more luck with "this system is broken for this reason, and would benefit in X way when changed to version Y." Creating a Features and Ideas thread for complaining doesn't exactly inspire solutions for the perceived problems.
Skill training wouldn't be improved with your proposed changes for the reasons mentioned in earlier posts. Gate camping is a symptom of other broken behaviors bred from the current game mechanics. They're the easiest way to find someone, but are also easy to avoid if you put some time and forethought into where you're going.
Do you want to fix gate camping? Figure out why carebears should stay in low security space, how they should make money off of it without making it a death sentence to stay in low security space, and why pirates should feel its better to pursue targets rather than wait for them to jump into their camps.
I could try to say more, but it doesn't feel like it would be worth the effort.

Your suggestions are so gamebreaking that it is insane. I don't care if I come under fire for flaming, your ideas are completely insane. The only thing that you said that makes any sense at all is about the bounties.
So please leave. By the way that you have displayed contempt for the entire eve fanbase, I feel it safe to say that you will not be missed.
