Is it just at my place, or did the main menu to the left change?
I also get redirected from www.eve-online.com to www.eveonline.com?
If this is the new look, I don't like it a bit! Silly hiding menu's deep in submenus and requiring 3-5 clicks and moving a lot of mouse before you can get to where you want!

Yup. Also it slows down the site, unbearably so on a somewhat old computer. Totally unnecessary change imo. |

They've implemented some sort of javascript tree menu system.
I dont mind the change, less clutter on the left hand side makes it a bit easier on the eye. However 3-5 clicks compared to one click does make the user experience some what tedious.

yes it has changed, its some sort of accordian menu based on the jquery framework.

I find it weird that to get into a sub-tree it reloads the whole site, which slows down everything.

Yes indeed. Just make a simple display: none; and a display:block; with a growing pixel height javascript to do it. No refreshing, much faster and very little code. Or even do it with Ajax fetching of submenu items.
This is bad hhmmkay.

Also note that they completely erased the fan submission part. Yes I know it was borked but to erase it instead of fixing it.... meh.

Switch off Javascript for eveonline.com, and it'll be just one click. *hugs NoScript* Well, finding the correct menu entry is best done searching the current site of course: It's about two pages down the side.
And, well, changing your forum settings doesn't work any more after that... *Derek*

Why the heck can't the Forums tab just open up Forum view and same time open that items list, if someone really needs those... (eve-search.com still has better dev-finder)

Not just 3 clicks, it is 3 when you remember by heart in which category your target site is, which even after almost 5 years in eve i can't, and i constantly hit the wrong ones so for me it is 5-6 clicks to access a specific page instead of just one!
Very very bad change imo, not needed, its way more complicated than before and confusing.
What that change was to solve? not user friendly!!

Every post you click it has to 'redo' the menu tree on the left.
Bad for performance... :(

TBH the whole EVE website is a crap sandwich we have been having for lunch for the past 5 years..
fire the web guy that done it

I like the idea where I have to open the Item Database -part and the click the Evelopedia link... it's logic. :D

Not to mention the actual layout of the site is shifted about too. That is actualy a fair bt uglier than the menus on the left. Instead of things being broken into different sections both across the page as well as verticly, everything is a;; vertical. That is horrible.
(Vertical, good for the Naglfar, BAD for the Eve site.)

Actually it's my mom's old iBook 
But the point is that there was no good reason at all for implementing that menu - besides making the site look all snazzy at which it fails anyways - so they might just have kept the old one there and saved us low end forum hogs a migraine prescription. |
