I recently dealt with this guy who said some stuff about Twilight that I disagreed with.
Quote: As for Twilight: The books are fantastic. There's a good reason Stephenie Meyer has been dominating the Fiction bestseller lists for the past 8 months. The Host cemented her position as a solid author. The movie... I have not seen because I'm 99% sure they destroyed everything that made the books good. I have no intention of ever seeing it.
Twilight a chauvinist series? What the everloving **** have you been putting in that crack-pipe of yours? Twilight is feminist as ****. Bella doesn't listen to a goddamned thing any of the men around her say and the series is all about what she wants. The men are secondary.
So what are anyone else's thoughts on Twilight? Is this guy right or what? _________________

Only saw the film preview. Looked like ****y gothic romance type *******s that will probably be frequented by those who thought Anne Rice was the best thing since sliced bread.
Personally, I think vampires should be scary, not romantic fantasies.

Gee, whatever you say bro...
Thats 1 reason why I try to stay away from fanbois and their rage. I haven't personally seen the movie and I honestly have no plans to watch it. Heard and read too many opinions and reviews of it being a cheesy romance movie, targeted for teenage girls. _______

At worst, they should be scary romantic fantasies, but it's pretty lame when 100% of all vampires are romantic fantasy __________________________________

It doesn't leave a lasting impression, it isn't very involving, yep, sounds like a chickflick to me.

This.
Though it is more aimed towards the 13-year old girl going through puberty. Besides, I'm never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down |

o lawd what a pile of tripe.
I can understand some people liking Twilight, but as mentioned earlier, it is aimed at 14 year old girls going through puberty and at the stage where they don't feel understood in their little world, every teenager goes through it etc etc.
It's pretty much a little romance based novel filled with crap and mary sues.
Dominating Fiction bestseller? now that is the biggest load of **** i've ever heard.

Edited by: Amberfyre on 20/02/2009 19:16:45 I agree the books are absolutely fantastic, read them in like 4 days. The film for me was good though not as mesmerizing as the books. The film skips over vital parts of the book that make you understand it from both perspectives and vital parts of the book got changed.
Yeah they made it a chic flick, vampire romance aimed at teenage girls but then again the book was aimed at adolescents too.
I am 23 and female and i enjoyed it, some may say that sad but i like comparing the movie versions to books. Like many adaptations it was not as good, but then again you can make a film as good. Its all about a persons imagination and personally books do it better. My BF wont watch it though after all reviews.
Still, read Twilight twice and am on 9th watch of film so must kind of like it.
Oh and its a templar an Amarr fighter used by carriers.

This. The problem with modern vampire writers is it seems in an ironic way they themselves have been seduced by the very thing the vampires in their books would use to propagate. Stories such as Dracula point out the changes individuals undergo once turned into vampires such as what happened to Lucy Westenra in Dracula where as in other stories the individual remains essentially the same, only sporting a set of fangs. Id imagine Stoker would be turning in his grave if he knew what individuals like Rice have done to his creation. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

Apart from the fact that it deviates from just about everything we love about Vampires (sunlight being the main example), it had practically no action until right at the end. By the time the action started, I was almost asleep with boredom.
Give me Underworld anytime.

Twilight is just a really bad condensed rip-off of Buffy The Vampire Slayer/Angel with terrible special effects, rewritten for pre-pubescent little bints and and the sad, girlish little boys that cant get older women.

Twilight is a Chick-Flick for that genre of Fanfic-writing, Vampire-Obsessive teenage girls.
The genre is so disgustingly typical of all the little teeny fantasies that I sincerely doubt the books are even worth reading - since you could get your fill of that detritus on Deviantart in the stories section.
But thats just my 2 cents.
The fact that the Vampire character "shows his true form" and proceeds to develop "glitter skin" does nothing but reinforce my criticisms.
Whats next, Pink Irises and the ability to defecate Gucci handbags?

lol... I went with a few friends to see this (me + another guy + 3 girls). Me and the other guy laughed the whole way through, the girls thought it was good. I think its better suited to be a comedy than a vampire film

Total chick flick. The girls go for the bloke who played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter, who has the lead in this film.
The guys roll their eyes.
The ending of the film is, utter, utter, wretched tosh.
So if you want to score points, take your girlfriend, wife, elderly relative to the movie then shut your eyes.
Quite a few girls I know rave about the books, although they all say that they're appaulingly badly written and are squarely aimed at a teenage audience. It doesn't stop them reading every single book in the series though. |

I hope they have the sense to merely borrow them from the library as opposed to buying them and thus funding that horrible writer if they found the writing to be that bad. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

Are you entertained by: 1. Hot vampire guys? 2. Social commentary on equal relationship rights? 3. More hot vampire guys? 4. Sappy romance? 5. Really hot vampire guys?
Then the series is for you. If you want to actually SEE hot vampire guys, watch the movie.
That is all.
