Ok, so you've been out to town looking for a new game to buy. There on the shelf in your favorite games shop is this fabulous looking cover, for a game called EVE online. You flip the box over to see 4 pictures with superb graphics, beautiful scenery. Yes! this will do just nicely. You rush home, cant wait to bang the cd in and get started. The instruction booklet??? Who cares about that!? Ok, the nitty gritty of payments etc. is out of the way and you're into the character creation screen. A few choices later and yeah, that looks good. But is it? How do you know you've made the right choice? Well for me, it turns out my attributes are fine. I am happy with what I got. I am happy with the name of my character too. I was happy too with the skills I got, not that a year in that makes much difference. But I am not happy with the race I chose. It is now limiting the style of play that I have chosen. So, my question is; If you could choose a race again, which would it be, or would you remain the same?

you left out the 30 meg patch download ... i was on 56k when i started playing
how can your race be limiting your style of play if your happy with your starting skills and attributes?? - that's all that defines a race essentialy __________________________________________

Edited by: Rod Blaine on 08/08/2004 23:24:25 RP wise there's more.
And skillwise...tends to push one towards a certain races' ships.
Anwway, Gallente all the way, wouldnt want it changed'since everyone knows Caldari are stupid, Amarr are too damn conservative and Minamatar are... like...the charvs of Eve (charv being a term learned from observing Josh Calvert posts, not that he is one but..look in the damn out of pod forum)).
Gallente are suave, easygoing and liberal. And they also look best of course.
Anyway, no wouldnt change. _______________________________________________

Hmmm, heres my att breakdown:
INT: (07 + 05 + 03) * (1+(5/50)) = 15 * 1.1 = 16.5 PER: (09 + 05 + 04) * (1+(5/50)) = 18 * 1.1 = 19.8 CHA: (06 + 04 + 00) * (1+(5/50)) = 10 * 1.1 = 11.0 WIL: (10 + 04 + 03) * (1+(5/50)) = 17 * 1.1 = 18.7 MEM: (07 + 05 + 03) * (1+(5/50)) = 15 * 1.1 = 16.5
I'm perfectly happy with these. I wouldn't change a thing really...

I have no idea what these calculations mean, but I'd be thrilled to hear it.. I understand the base, learning skill, implant part, but the (1+(5/50)) multiplier loses me. What's the source of that variable?

I like my race as i wanted to always be a pirate and i think minmatar look the most evil.
My first char was amarr though and i loathed it..

That is his rank in the "Learning" learning skill being factored in. He simplifies as he goes across the calculation, so that is where he is calculating out the 10% bonus to each that he is receiving from it.
That's all there is to it.

For asthetic resons if i had to choose again i might pick caldari. thier ships rock design wise.
However due to the thier Moral Justifcation for any and all terrorist acts against the Amarr i will always pick the Minmatar, and besides, The Typhoon just looks so evil.
May many black holes open up under the hulls of all Apocs everywhere. May the pilots of all Armaggedons be drawn to the Pator sun like moths suiciding against an open flame to never be cloned again.

I agree, race bonuses will make race specific ships the better choice.
I would rather see the race bonus linked to your standing with that empire, true amarrans get 100% bonus, a caldari would get 50% bonus if they had 5.00 standing with amarr.
But thats just me

Edited by: Bohr on 09/08/2004 11:33:25 Edited by: Bohr on 09/08/2004 11:32:19 So far I'm happy with my Intaki main, me, and my Gallente alt(/combat main). Basically it does'nt matter much, only for RP, where I with no doubt would be Minmatar.
Only reason I did'nt choose Minmatar at character creation was the race descriptions, which goes something like "..The Gallente Federation, being the only, functional or real, democracy in EvE..." and the, yet strange fact, the minmatars government are a republic.(?!?!?!?!?!)*
*I mean, opressed and enslaved people, choose to base their newfound, or refound, system on a Republic(and I can mention the French sentence; "vive la republique!") (WTF)

I picked Gallente at Random, although I do regret it.
Gallente have ugly ships, are too democratic and are of French decent.
I'd be Caldari.
They have ships that actuall look like ships, they love missiles and are very militaristic.
Amaar and Minmatar are irrelevent. "Hobbes, she stepped into the Perimter Of Wisdom.Run!" |

Mathematically the choice is either Gallante or Caldari, rest depends on how you would like to play in begining. Make an excel sheet which contains all skills and their primary, secondary attributes and training level. Then calculate with the training time formulae found from forums/fan sites. Remember to test different placement of free attribute points.
Compare calculus both with and without learning bonuses/implants. And there is your power gaming choice.
Next part is learning time bonuses. Get hold of Learning skills fast. Get int + mem + learning up to level 5. Then start learning other things.

The "race bonus" for an elite frigate is the bonus you get for having level 5 in the appropriate frigate skill. It has nothing to do with what race you are.
