Isn't this the same Alex Jones who swears the Men in Black are real and that aliens have been butt probing him since 1982?

Calling people stupid yuppies and tards isn't a good argument strategy. Its funny how people who follow Alex Jones' theories all seem to have the same amount of contempt and use the same language towards people who don't believe them. You guys always cut and paste your little links to youtube much like Alex Jones cuts and pastes news articles to fit his theories. He does bring up compelling arguments and is sometimes right but he has also stretched the truth to fit his story and often gets is facts mixed up.
People often times take one side or the other and get so wrapped up in it they can't see a grey area. Its not your fault really, its human nature. We all seem to need something to believe in and something to be passionate about. Thats why people latch on to religion, environmentalism, conspiracy theories, sports, etc. And we just blindly defend our corner with out concession, and refuse to believe otherwise.

The right to bear arms is one thing, but the States seem to take it to an illogical extreme.
Contrary to popular belief, we're allowed to own guns here in the UK too. The difference being that we're restricted to break-open shotguns, and rifles - weapons that are slow to fire and impossible to conceal. Why? Because they're for hunting and pest control.
Some States issue licences to carry concealed pistols. I'm yet to hear a sensible reason why doing so is a good idea. "home defence"? A shotgun's more than adequate for that job. A 9mm semiautomatic handgun that you can carry around in public undetected just by wearing a moderately loose jacket and the right kind of holster doesn't strike me as being a sensible thing to allow your citizenry to have. It's not like they'd be much use against a military armed with assault rifles anyway.
So what's the point? All you're doing is giving people easy access to deadly weaponry, but not giving them access to the sort of weapon that would actually make armed revolt against the government feasible. When that amendment was written, the state-of-the-art was still the muzzle-loading rifle.
The whole US fascination with being allowed unfettered and easy access to weaponry is perplexing, as far as I'm concerned. - Verin "Stitcher" Hakatain. |

Generally speaking a shotgun would be great as a home defense weapon, though not the break-open type you described due to low ammo capacity.
However, it's not just home defense, defense of yourself and others in other locations is the primary reason for concealed carry. People who lives in rural areas have even more reasons to carry firearms. And you know what? I've yet to hear any sensible reason why responsible, law-abiding citizens shouldn't be allowed to carry weapons, most arguments I've heard usually boils down to "It's bad because.... it's bad!!!11one11". Yet, plenty of crimes have been averted or stopped by responsible citizens who were armed, and all those doomsday scenarios about everyone going on shooting rampages over fender benders never materialized in states which allow concealed weapons.

Plenty of things can be classified as deadly weaponry if one wishes. You can kill a hell lot more people with an automobile in a crowded area than you can with a gun, I guess that means we should outlaw those too?
Criminals don't have problems gaining access to weapons, yet you think that by taking guns away from the law-abiding citizens would make it safer? I find that perplexing

So let me get this straight.... Americans will get guns taken away? Fine by me.
Just make sure to get them away from most of the criminals, and allow police to continue to carry firearms. _________________________________________

There's circular logic at work there: the criminals wouldn't have such easy access to weaponry if American regulations on their ownership and control hadn't been so lax.
Of course, now that guns are so firmly entrenched in the American lifestyle, you're right that denying the common citizenry their use is just plain stupid.
My point wasn't that guns should be taken away from your people now - that would, as you rightly point out, just leave the law-abiding people more vulnerable.
My point was that these guns should never have been made available in the first place. - Verin "Stitcher" Hakatain. |

I find that to be rather unlikely. Regulation by definition are laws, and criminals by definition, do not obey the laws. No regulation can possibly prevent criminals from gaining access to weapons, unless you literally ban them planet-wide and have a method to actually enforce it. As long as someone somewhere on this planet is making guns, criminals will find a way to get it. In my native country firearms are outlawed completely from the citizenry, and guess what, criminals gets them easily all the same.

It'd be nice, but ultimately wouldn't do anything. The first firearms are made by hand (and people today STILL do), you can't stop that. Besides, when you take away guns, people who wants to kill will just move on to the other 28298734293874289 available methods of killing, some far more effective than guns.

I find the 'if you outlaw guns only outlaws will have guns argument' a whole lot of *******s. We have very, very few guns here (Netherlands), and likewise, very few criminals have guns.
It's probably true that banning all guns in the US from tomorrow on would lead to mostly citizens turning them in and (already-)criminals keeping them, but thats because they are already so abundant.

And yet you still have them daddy's boy. Guess somebody found a way to obtain guns in a gun restricted zone.
