Just something for CCP to think about.
I was wondering if, as it's likely to be a big download and some customers may have download limits at certain times, the new Apocrypha client could be released for download a few days before the servers go 'live' so we could have it ready for install on the day.
It would also spread the load as users could download the client at their convenience rather that swamp the server the moment the server is updated.
I am aware we could not use the client until the server is updated but at least a large number would be 'ready to go' without causing mayhem on the newly updated server.

CCP will be probably working on fixing bug hunting the client right on the day they're going to put it live up on TQ. And even after that, they'll be working their bum off to fix what got broken before the client(s) gets released to the public.
The client you would download now wouldn't be the client after the M10 patch.

This. It wouldn't be the first time the server won't run on TQ and they have to do literally last minute adjustments to get it running. I look forward to seeing the whines in the forums again that they patched early and no incredimental patch is available _

Edited by: Blue Harrier on 23/02/2009 11:55:38 If the above is the case then what is the point of releasing the client on the shop CD, as if you say it will be out of date the moment it is installed.
Would it not be better to release the same client for download before the update and just have small patches ready on or shortly after the go live day?

The box is targeting a different audience and gives EVE more visibility in more places, so it is a must. It isn't totally a wasted effort, because it will contain most of the game assets, so the download to upgrade it will be considerably smaller then a full online installation.

I don't think there's any MMO at the moment that has ever shipped up to date on disc, so there's nothing unusual or wrong in this respect. It's an MMO, people have internet connections, a small patch to get the latest executable won't kill them.
It does look particularly bad for CCP however because judging from the Sisi patches much of the artwork wasn't done until recently (long after the disc would have been pressed). We'll know for sure once the boxed copy is out, but I am expecting an OMGWTFBBQ sized patch for the guys installing the boxed copy. 1GB patches for a boxed product aren't nearly as cool... ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

Some Dev said that the boxed client will be Quantum Rise 1.0.5. So it will be definitely outdated the moment it hits the stores on M10. And furthermore I expect the final client to be finalized ON M10. And I anticipate a few emergency fix patches before M20.

Fixed that for you.
I can forsee us being able to play EVE again by M30 if we're lucky.

Oh my.
The current EA->Apoc(Sisi) patch is 1.4GB, and it's probably only going to get bigger. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |
