I'd say if said students were playing a game when they should be studying or otherwise engaging in activities beneficial to the reason they are in school then maybe they will never have the focus and self discipline to do anything past monkey work in a cubicle anyways? So let 'em be the mules and cannon fodder to attain the dedicated players goals in this game as they will be lackeys and paper shufflers in a real life corp regardless.

Originally by: Yakia TovilToba This is an interesting aspect. Since in Eve there are plenty of people with vicious intention towards their fellow players (think of all that scammers, griefer, powerabusers etc.), one could say CCP does something usefull by absorbing the time of (potential) criminals and offering them a place to live out their criminal energy without inflicting real harm to the society. So maybe this even balances the damage ...
May the gods forgive me for quoting Goonswarm:
EVE is a game of internet spaceships.
..that gives you free reign to do anything you want and act anyway you like in a sandbox enviroment with only your personal choices and morals restricting you.
Now since this disscussion is about the effects eve has on real life society as it applys to students I think the op is very much on to something.

Originally by: Mina Hiragi The idea that CCP and EVE are "absorbing the time of (potential) criminals and offering them a place to live out their criminal energy" is laughable at best, and at worst directly insulting to anyone who's ever put rounds across the bow of an opponent's internet spaceship.
Just because you are not a potential 'real life criminal' and are attracted to the stylized violence of eve does not mean that some other person isn't. Those who do indeed have 'real like criminal' potential and have an attraction to the virtual criminal lifestyle of eve might never be fataly tempted to do something in real life that has no real life clone to save them. In this case it would be a benefit to society unlike the scenario outlined in the thread op. Truth be told though eve or drugs or anything that is a temptation or addiction is all up to the person in question to make a choice and that has nothing to do with ccp.
