Nice mainstream exposure, though Massively's posts on the matter were much more informative.

In the closing paragraph a member of Goonswarm pretty much described what the Goons are.
Quote: He wrote: "We don't have any advantages, so we can't obey your stupid 'space bushido'. We're going to spy, we're going to use defectors, we're going to lie, cheat, steal and be bastards."

Dunno why the press always sticks with interviewing the same person. That shows a pretty single-sided story imho (again).
Examples:
Quote: A player called "The Mittani" is the shadowy spymaster who runs dozens of agents for his corporation - GoonSwarm.
Quote: This is not the first time that rogue bankers and credit fraud have made EVE Online seem more like the financial pages than a space cowboy video game.
Quote: But spymaster Mittani scoffed at calls for in-game morals, noting that without dirty tricks, GoonSwarm would have had no chance of toppling a more established corporation like BoB.
I'm not pro Goonswarm or something, but I think there is one entity which forced metagaming more than any other...

And that makes the Goons different from others...how?

Edited by: PaddyPaddy Nihildarnik on 23/02/2009 15:54:31 Edited by: PaddyPaddy Nihildarnik on 23/02/2009 15:53:36 My wife is a PR agent in RL. Im just wondering if CCP has in house PR or runs it through an agencies in various countries? Ive seen both the NYT and BBC do news feeds featuring Molle and Bob heavily and im wondering if thats due to any particular contact details that may be arranged by ccp.
Please understand this isnt tinhattery- I really couldnt give a hoot either way but I can tell you now that the general procedure for articles like this isnt about the reporter actually doing much research at all. In my (well my missus but meh) experience it goes something like this.
1) PR firm/ inhouse PR dept writes up press release on behest of client/ or head dept in case of inhouse.
2) PR agent uses media contacts and mails out a press release that would be very simular to what the article ends up as.
3) Reporter rejects or accepts release if they want/see good angle (in this case the juxtaposition between RL corporate instability and recent bob debarcle) they might chop and change some of it.
4) They might spend maybe an hour or so researching the piece to confirm authenticity etc. Very, Very rarely(even for NYT and BBC) they will do their own further investigation/ journalism. I highly doubt they would chase up Molle and Mitt for actual press statements. Those would be provided by PR agency (ISD reporting or OOG???)
5) Reporter submits piece to Editor.
6) Ed either scraps the piece, mutilates it a bit more or pushes it through
7) Piece is published. Reporter gets the "by line" but actually has written very little of the content. Most is provided by PR agents.
Point being the central crux is the initial involvement of the PR firm. The fact that generally it focuses heavily on the Bob side of things makes me wonder why GS or even NC arent as well connected? In saying that though there was a piece a while ago on the CSM- clearly again a product of the PR machine at CCP.
So my question is- does CCP have an in-house PR dept or do they have multiple PR agencies working separate countries? If they are looking for one in Australia I could recommend a great PR agent

while the quote is menacing, you are misinformed about goonswarm. a more useful perspective is to see goons as a crass messenger -- afterall all of 0.0 is cleaning b0b out right now, and not out of greed. they're just sick and tired of being pushed around. mainstream media articles don't have time for that though.

I know that CCP is running a PR agency in Germany. But they have not really that background stuff, they publish the usual press releases, at least that's what reaches me / my company.

Now all we need is an event huge enough to be on TV, and we're all set.
The pictures were a little less than eyecatching but it was a nice article. -------

If you are referring to THE INTERNET. well, our bark is bigger than our bite. As for the NAPtrain that is currently cleansing the south, they are eager to get this over with so they can go back to shooting each other for fun, instead of trying to take each other's space. Trust me.

Also, I suspect CCP having an undercover dev in the BBC tech news department (or a very devoted fan) The amount of coverage they get there is pretty insane when you compare it to other news.
That, or BBC just loves three letter companies. _
