Anyone got the links to the 2 pics were you could see ships flying across a planet?One was a desert, the other Artic i think?

No, they were not "fake", they were meant as a teaser i think. They were posted on the official site some months ago (www.eve.is)

The pics was made by someone at ccp, i think they were more concept art and not real ingame pictures. But not fake afaik. Do anyone still have the links?

Ok thats pretty much what i meant...
They don't actually show how it will be...they just show an EVE ship photoshopped onto a desert and arctic background O_o
Especially in the desert shot you can clearly see that its photoshoped since the shadows are all wrong...

I don't understand what the point of flying about on a planet will be.....can we set up mining operations in little space-diggers? Purchase sea-ships and have naval battles? Eve is a space game....

thats just it Kali is still atleast 6 months away (more likely a year) i dont think its worrth worrying about what we are going to get in Kali

well, theres alot of planets in space? If they give the planets some strategic meaning, i think it could evolve nicely

Planets will give the EVE universe more depth. Instead of delivering water to a space station, you could fly it down to a desert planet. Trading could get a much needed boost with large planet colonies. Oh, planets would also add some nice eye candy.
Space tends to be black and boring when you see it from space, but seen from a planet space can be very pretty. (oh my God, its full of stars)

The devs said those pics were a test to see if the engine could handle planetary travel. They want to add that eventually, but they said it wouldn't be before September 2005, and that was many months ago, so probably even longer.

Uhh, those shots are in engine test shots. Not photoshopped. A dev confirmed it the first time they were leaked. (Pre-castor I think)
