I'm a bit of a newbie here but I've been killing pirates for a few days (maybe 50-60 of them so far) and the lack of visible change in my sec rating is very frustrating.

I understand that killing small 1.5k ISK bounty pirates shouldn't make me a frontier hero overnight, but if you are going to give out seemingly random sec changes in .0002 increments, perhaps it would be nice to list the sec rating on the character sheet with a few more decimals in it so I can at least feel like I am accomplishing something.

thanks

I second that. Right now, the rating is pointless because there is no change at all, no matter how many pirates you kill.

Not asking to much just a few more decimal places in the security status so i can actually view the .0565% change for killing that npc pirate?

If not that then a formula or an equation so we could all figure out how to apply that % change to our sec status, so i know how many npc pirates i have left to kill to get back to 0?

Maybe some alternative ways to gain sec, too? We can't all fly to 0.0 and slaughter battleships, and if you pod one pirate in low-sec, you're yellow on the overview forever and ever.

They said before the game came out that they planned on letting people salvage dangerous driftmetal for sec rating increases... haven't seen this happen yet though.

ok if I remember correctly, the security rating change is based on the most powerful pirate you killed in the last 15 mins (same for changes to other factions like Caldari State changes for killing Caldari Navy ships).

As to how much the change actually means it is the same method as you're faction and corp standings are. (To see a missions value, open up your bio, go to standing, right click on a standing and shop transactions).

The formula for this depends on if its a positive of negative change.
For a positive change:-
(10.00 - current standing) x percentage change

For a negative change:-
(-10.00 - current standing) x percentage change.

eg you have a faction standing (or sec standing) of 2.00, and have a percentage change to that of 10% (high for a ship kill, but I think a pod kill is 12.5% sec standing change, and there are certainly missions that are worth over 10%).

If the change was positive (ie you killed a very big pirate), your standing would change:-
(10.00-2.00) x 0.10 = 0.8
giving a resulting standing of 2.80

If the change was positive (ie the standing change to the pirates faction for killing the big pirate)
(-10.00 - 2.00) x 0.10 = -1.2
giving a resulting standing of 0.80.

It is worth noticing from this that the higher your faction standing (or sec rating) the smaller the effect of a positive action and the larger the effect of a negative action. The converse is true also, the lower your faction standing the larger the effect of a positive action and the smaller the effec of a negative action.

It is also worth noting you cannot reach a 10.00 standing or a -10.00 standing (unless there's a mission/rat somewhere that gives a 100% faction increase/decrease Very Happy).

As pointed out I think the problem is the so small a change for high sec rats with the sec rating only displaying 2 decimal places.
