Your settings are highly likely borked. Delete them and try again.
Location: C:\documents and settings\(windows account user)\local settings\application data\ccp\eve
Cant see the folder in local settings? Enable 'show hidden files and folders' in folder options at the control panel.

Edited by: KING TERROR on 24/02/2009 03:51:14 Just delete the 'settings' folder on that location and start up your client. No reinstall of eve.
When you have eve running and everything is set to your wishes you might want to make a copy of that folder and keep it on another location. Should it occur again simply copy and paste without the sweat of setting it all up again.

Have you tried rebooting your computer or check if theres still an exefile.exe is running in the taskmanager?
The borked client is prob. still running on the background.

The order of doing this is important otherwise the settings are frelled again.
1. Delete 'settings' folder 2. Reboot computer 3. Run EvE

I too am having this issue, been playing EVE for 4 years, never seen this happen before. I've tried everything I can find on the issue no go.

Same issue.
Worked this morning, quit for a few hours, came back and no login screen. Eve.exe starts, evefile.exe starts, eve.exe quietly dies after 30 seconds leaving evefile.exe running. The logs, they show nothing (useful).
Removed CCP folder from Local Settings\App Data, same problem (it gets rebuilt clean on start tho). Restored EVE from a 5 day old backup, same issue.
Going to try display drivers and a full scratch reinstall. (BTW, be careful with the EVE uninstaller, it seems to remove some non-eve releated files)

Found a fix, at C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE, there is a folder named c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility, upon clearing the settings and cache there, eve ran just fine :)

I've tried that, still no go, even after a reboot. I too used EVE earlier today and had no problems, but now....nothing. Already missed training on a pilot, two more cooking, hope I can get this resolved before to long. Seems to me that something changed on server end, an failed ninja update maybe?

After virus and spyware scans found nothing I did a system restore, rolling back 2 days, just in case Windows was slightly broken. Classic client fired up.
Restored my backups of my original EVE directory and my Local Settings\App Data\CCP directory and back working again as tho nothing was broken.
Looks to me like it was a Windows problem in my case, not an EVE problem.

Im sorry to hear it didnt work. I had something similar on my machine. The setting became useless after a disconect in a heavy loaded system with combat etc. My client alos didnt fire up just as your client. My problem was solved with new settings.
Ofcourse it could have more causes, but it looks indeed if windows might have something to do with it.
It is still possible that there might be a problem ether drivers, hardware or something in the windows register that might cause your problem.
I have 2 accounts myself with 1 on xp and 1 on vista, both 64 bit machines. The only problem im sufferng is the disconects everyone is having due to a heavy packetloss around london.
The clients themselves are running fine.

Tried everything I can find in these forums. Yesterday it worked fine, then around 5pm Arizona time it stopped working the same day and hasn't worked since.
I've tried new drivers across the board, video, sound, network, and directX. Reset modem Reset router Reset firewall Gave permission for EVE for all the above Deleted settings Deleted caches Turned off virus protection Finally deleted/uninstalled EVE and downloaded a new client Always the same result: Splash screen loads EVEfile.exe hangs in process list SLOWLY increasing memory use but never exceeding 61k. (It can take it an hour to go from 58k to 61k used then it just seems to hang there). Works fine on my wife's computer (which is on the same router/network/modem).
Using windows XP, nothing new had changed on my system, no updates nothing, just earlier in day game works, then a few hours later, nothing works except splash screen.

You have indeed ruled everything expet 1 thing. The hardware itself. id try a different gfx card just to test, exchange memory dimms. Use only 1 memory dimm. A system bios reset and/or set it to factory settings. When was the last time the machine got a decent dustjob. Take the hardware apart and put it together again. Connectors can be slightly corroded etc.
Dig!

I'm also having this problem, starting at Tuesday 0400 GMT (I logged in fine Monday 1800 GMT). The QR splash image appears, then disappears, and nothing else happens. The process "ExeFile.exe" remains in the Task Manager.
I've tried the same stuff as the other posters here- caches, settings, drivers, firewalls, DirectX, etc., with no success.
I'm running Win XP with dual monitors on 2x 7800GTX and a Creative SB X-Fi sound card. |

Here is a Knowledge base article on how to clear your settings and cache folder. Make sure you follow it step by step: http://support.eve-online.com/Pages/KB/Article.aspx?id=371
Second step would be to start logserver.exe (a program which is located in your eve folder) and then start the eve client again. Logserver will hopefully record a log of where things are going wrong. I suggest that you contact customer support by filing a petition and attach this file to it, alternatively look at the log and figure out what the problem is.

I would suspect hardware as well, but I have other software I run that stress my system much more then EVE does and they work without any issues at all. If this was indeed some kind of hardware issue, I'm pretty sure there would be issues elsewhere and there are not. Plus with the reading I've done on these forums to many people are having this issue and all roughly at the same time. We all spontaneously had the same hardware issue?
Besides, I have diagnostic software that also stress the system at component level and my system has passed them all multiple times since EVE suddenly stopped working.

I had the very same symptoms as the OP. Then I remembered that I deactivated the directdraw thingy in DirectX earlier this day to play some older game without constant crashes. Even though EVE worked fine earlier this day without directdraw, now it wouldn't start up and just stay like "minimized" after the splash screen.
No idea if and why anyone of you would have deactivated that, but I guess checking the settings to make extra sure can't hurt. To get to your DirectX settings, go to "start", "run", type "dxdiag" and hit enter, then go to the tab "display" (third from the left for non-english users) and under "DirectX features" check that Direct Draw is "enabled".
Hope that can help.

having the same issue. Tried all te settings fixes, uninstalled client twice. SPlash pops up then eve.exe unloads and goes poof.
There was a windows update that day. It is not Dirextx or settings related, as none of those fixes worked. System is running Win XP, other OS on other computers seems to work fine.

I am now having the same issue. I closed down eve for 1.5 hours to cook and eat dinner then went to start it back up and splash screen then nothing. I have since done all the recommended things but no success. Anyone have any other ideas. |

Just had the same problem again.
Worked 3 hours ago. Tried to start EVE 20 minutes ago, it dies. Do a system restore from a 12 hour old checkpoint, EVE works again.

Ok, I was having the same issue here on one of my PCs, running Vista. I tried reinstalling both the Premium and Classic clients, but the problem still returned; the client would load, but would stay minimized. The client still seemed to be running normally, as I could issue a keyboard shortcut like Ctrl-Q and it would work.
I then moved the Cache and Settings folders out of their original location, and the client worked fine the next time I started it. As a test, I replaced my original Cache and Settings folders, and the client still functions properly while I get to keep all of my previous settings; this of course makes no sense, but all I really care about at this point is that the client works again. --- *BPCs for sale; see character's bio in-game for details. I'm glad that fixed it for you, but removing the cache, deleting the cache, moving the cache has not fixed it for me. It's going on to 5 days now and still not able to play or even get to login screen.

I'm still waiting here too. Fortunately I got a friend who can still run Eve to update my skill training.
There seems to be a different version of this problem where the login window is present but isn't viewable (black screen or permanently minimized), which can be fixed by some of the suggestions given above. However, when the splash screen disappears and leaves nothing on the task bar (no minimized window and nothing to take keyboard input), the only known solution so far is to have a System Restore backup from before the problem started.
Just for some more information: when starting Eve with the LogServer running, the log file shows a few warnings when loading scripts (ie. attempting to redefine foo.Vector3 in script:/environment/spaceObject/spaceObject.py (defined in script:/../../common/script/util/Vector3.py)), but no errors or failures. It successfully loads fonts, then stops on "Service gameui required 0.098 seconds to startup" indefinitely.
