Ok, I use drones to run missions, got 3 guns only on my dominix...
And for the last 2 days it's become impossible to fly the l4 missions without drone loss if the enemy is far away (40 or more). It's because... The damn npcs have started to redirect fire... It's not only happened to me, but it's insane. Espcially with heavy drones... Lights can run away even when they get webbed, but the heavies have got no chance, a few volleys from a bs and boom, they are dead. And if they got webbed, they are completely screwed.
I don't mean new spawns firing at drones, that's old and I know about it. But like up to 60s after I launch my drones, even if I had full-room aggro, a lot of the npcs will shoot the drones. And naturally turning them into dust, because in bigger rooms when I see the shield melting on them, they won't manage to get back going under 1k/s...
So, is this a new 'feature'? The same thing - why DON'T they target ninjas when they enter missions? That really got irritating that they do redirect fire at drones that don't aggro them but they don't care about other ships shooting at them or flying by.
Anything known about it? Because if it stays like that - heavy drones will quickly become relicts (a week, maybe two) for pve... As there will always be some shot down before they return to drone bay... Or maybe that's the devs idea to force us to use sentries? ------------------------

I'm not really sure what's going on with drones and missions, but I have noticed an increase in drone aggro.

As a counterargument, my corp ran Angel Extravaganza once and Worlds Collide twice last night using lots of drone boats, and didn't notice this at all. We lost a couple of drones, but only from new spawns.
Worth bearing in mind that... as far as I can tell, anyway... just because an NPC is flashing yellow, doesn't mean they can't shoot drones. They need to be flashing red (i.e. shooting you) to be sure they won't pop drones.
I'm sure I've had the whole room either red or yellow to me and still had to pull drones in.

This has always happened a lot on Worlds Collide, but its never happened to me on any other mission. Nothing has changed for me recently. It could be happening to you due to desynch with the server, your client thinks something is attacking you but it really isn't due to lag.

Apart from a couple missions were your drones get aggroed (see survival guide), I didn't see any differences as of yet.

npc used to always 'yellow-box' you if they were locking or shooting your drones. this feature was removed and now seemingly inert npc will snipe your drones. turn on turret effects and watch if your drones take fire...
the only time i ever see them truly switch targets is if you've lead them far away from the spawn point. they mwd back to point of origin and your drones following them can be targeted.

Only the new NPCs and Commander spawns will use the new AI and therefore shoot your drones.

I've had similar results in some lvl 4's previously about 5 months back where I had full agro with my ship, sent drones out and the drones got damage.
In that time what I think happened was I lagged - almost enough to disconnect and the ships firing at my ship re-targeted to my drones. Since the lag improved back about then my drones being shot up about disappeared with the odd exception of when I dc. I twice had the situation in combat where I ended up emergency warping out and back without a dc, as the lag was so bad while connected that the server must have thought the connection was lost. Being in like a 4th pocket and then emergency warping out and back to the first pocket can be a pain - it also takes a while in a big slow battleship.
Typically I keep all drones in the bay till all ships that will agro, have agro'd. Is a few missions where I have agro with the last non-group like 70-80km away and the drones pull the 'lets go hunt bear' tactic and ignore the npc's shooting your ship to chase the non-agro'd npc's. I've had this happen a few times, commented on it my corp channel. The non-agro'd ships aren't shooting at the drones as when they do, the npcs approach, yet the drones still go off to hunt them when your under attack from other agro'd npc's.
I've done a good number of lvl missions recently and not noticed my drones being shot up any differently than normal.

Well, the thing is that all the boxes are red at me, just sddenly they dissappear at all, not yellow nor red and they start shooting the drones.
The lag issue may be that, maybe my connection got worse at the moments and that's why I lost aggro.

As to this, I am sure I got all red, and they were close, not on their max targetting for sure.

The thing is... It's mostly a problem with bs's with me? The frigs constantly web/scramble shoot me and it's the ships a few k away from me that change aggro. If it's only close-ranged ships, but that may have been an accident.

As to this, they were always targets 20-100km away, the close ones didn't ever change aggro. And it's not end of their range, because they first target me, shoot me and then retarget although they are still approaching...
Good that at least some of you have the same problem.
But seriously I'd like to know what is all this about. ------------------------

I only use light drones or sentry drones as a general rule. Bigger drones take far too long to get back to the drone bay.
I've been having fun with missions against the Angel Cartel simply because they tend to focus on ships, not drones. Extravaganza, Blockade, The Angel Cartel Spies - it's all good.
Only in Worlds Collide do I ever have drone aggro issues, and that's only when I haven't been careful to get red-box aggro from the whole room before deploying drones.

I believe it is because the new AI has them lol'ing at you for becoming aggravated at the ninja and won't shoot us.
They're griefing you man! Getting you to attack them and then harrassing you by popping your drones and having a nuetral come in and grab all the stuffs!

In Serpentis missions it's not unusual for the rats to switch targets. It happens to me whether I run drones, or my alt on my other account. One minute they'll have my main targeted, the next they target my alt, sometimes both at the same time.

Elite Drone "something" (infested Domi), can't remember the exact name, sometimes swap target to start shooting my drones. Serpentis do so in the first two pockets and Guristas in the first pocket in WC. These npc's seem to have a regular aggrodrop. It looks like dmg within a range of time determines target. Would be nice to know if this is a drone platform exclusive problem, as the main damage dealing is external and targetable. No matter what, it would be nice if npc's didn't understand drones as unique entities, but as a part of the owner, so that the ship would be targeted instead. |

I think NPC's there (especially in the first room to the left) actually have a NPC-affecting ECM burst. You will notice every once in a while, you lose lock, and the NPC's have retargeted as well. When they ECM themselves, they use that as an excuse to lock

Ok, I made a group of tests yesterday...
Missions - smash the supplier, smuggler interception and a few others. In all these missions npc rats were retargetting to my drones, with different time span, but they did.
1 - They (npc's) do not need the drones to aggro, when having full room aggro they, within a short time, redirect to the drones. 2 - I used warrior II's for an experiment because of their speed and it was unlikely for bs's to be able to hit them at all (and actually they did not manage to hit them, just shot at them), the rats not only redirect fire towards the drones, but, in time, after I fired a few rounds at them without hiding the drones, they return aggro towards me. So they damn well work like gate sentries now... And again, after time they did redirect fire to idle drones again, although they were not a threat any more to them. So... It doesn't matter if the drones out are a threat to the npcs (again question - why didn't they attack ninjas frigs while they attacked idle drones is still a mistery for me).
With corp mates entering the mission - they do redirect fire to them in time even if they didn't fire (I find that pretty ok actually). But it takes a long, long while.
Funny thing - they almost never returned aggro to me from my corp mate to me later, although they aggroed the drones from time to time.
Yes, all that did take a bit of time, so don't just say 'TROLL! Ninja winer!' because it's not a ninja wine. I'm rather ****ed with that, that heavy drones sorta lost their purpose at all in pve (and for me they are 10x more effective than sentries, sentries deal far less damage). So, got to skill up sentries, but still it's irritating a bit that all those sp in heavy drones went out the window...
It's funny though, some people say they only notice it in serpentis or the drones... I noticed it against - drones, serpentis, sansha, amarr and angels... Will continue experiments today evening :)
BTW - it's as hillarious as plexing in FW :D When I warp in with a gang, no matter how many of us would warp in, Inflamed always get all the aggro of npcs at start and spawns... I wonder what's their guideline in picking targets? It's a mistery to me, but maybe someone can explain that rule? It's not bad standing to caldari (because I've got worse than him), it's not ship types (because we swapped and nothing happened), it's not good standing to gallente because in fleet we had people with higher standing :) No other obvious thing really, check also FDU against state protectorate standings, still he got all the aggro without reason... ------------------------

This. Convert yourself to a T2 Sentry boat and demolish rats from far away. Use the lighter drones if they get too close and need to be mopped up.

I have had this problem in missions too although I was in a golem and doing it with a friend but we all had drones out and I noticed that some NPCs would completely deagress and unlock me and start shooting my friends or some of the drones...I dont recall how far out they were though.

If you are kiting the NPCs and are too far away from the mission site (somewhere around 150km+) the NPCs retreat to the site, sometimes losing aggro.
I did run a test on SiSi to see if the new Sleeper AI there was applied to mission NPCs as well and ran a whole Serp Ganza by pulling aggro in a super tank Domi, releasing drones and doing the dishes (except for the last stage, that was a bit hard on the tank), so the general behavior is still the same.

I know about that, it's different range for every mission, but I don't do that, I generally stay in one spot and kill everyone...
But got to train to t2 sentries in this case it seems... At least in some time. ------------------------

I use a dominix and I still think this is a good thing. You shouldn't be able to AFK missions, it is pretty cool that CCP is making the drones get aggro a bit more.

I noticed something similar regarding this in lvl4's missions. NPC rats do more DPS than before, are more tanked and the use of warp scramblers is more and more usual than before. I did dozens of lvl4's and once or twice saw a warp scrambler, in the last month running Silent the Informant lvl4 (Mercs) and The Assault Lvl4 (Serpentis)I suffered from the beginning of the mission frigates warp scrambling me and my drones (yes, warp scrambling my drones !!), never saw that .... the fight against NPC rats is evolving, sometimes looks like PVP

Err, my L4 missions has always been full of e-war. I've had over 2500 m sig radius in Angel missions, under 11 km targeting range and an eternity for lock time in Serpentis missions, permajammed against Guristas/ Caldari, and tracking disrupted to a laugh against Amarr. All while being scrambled and webbed down to more or less a standstill.

Seems like I just haven't noticed it so much, or maybe they did edit the npc's a bit, but not as much as I suppose they do (from your opinions).
Although :( Afk mission running is sooo good money!
And I tried using sentries in missions, they are pretty effective o.O got no idea why I so much hated them before, probably lower SP in drones when I tried them.
Any way, npc scrambling me, disrupting, etc is pretty fine with me :) In fact, it's not the ecm that's bugging me but the serpentis sensor dampening when my range is reduced to 2km and scan res to carrier-like res.
But oh well, you can't have everything. And in fact, forcing people to use some tactic can be pretty good. So /end of whine of drones getting aggro. I just have to get used to it.
Thanks for the input guys/girls :) ------------------------

If it gets a bit tougher then thats good. I was always somewhat dismayed at folks that would say -

As allways, it's not that simple... If you 'just warp in and let out the drones' they will get shot down in allmost every mission.
The only real benefit of drones is that they auto-agro after being set on a target once. But they do a ****ty job at that. You cannot warp into a mission, let out drones and come back half an hour later to find the mission finished.
